Octopuses (章鱼)are sea animals famous for their rounded bodies, bulging eyes, and eight long arms. They live in all the world's oceans but there are especially more octopuses in warm, tropical (热带的)waters. Octopuses, like their cousin, the squid (乌贼),are often considered “monsters of the deep”, though some species, or types, occupy relatively shallow waters.
Most octopuses stay along the ocean's floor, although some species are pelagic,
which means they live near the water's surface. Other octopus species live in deep, dark waters, rising from below at dawn and dusk to search for food. Crabs and shrimps rank among their favorite foods, though some can attack larger prey(猎物), like sharks. Octopuses typically drop down on their prey from above and, using powerful suctions that line their arms, pull the animals into their mouths. The octopus performs its famous backward swim by blowing up water through a muscular tube on the body called a siphon. Octopuses also crawl (爬)along the ocean’s floor, putting their arms into small openings to search for food. Seals, whales, and large fish prey on octopuses.
If threatened, octopuses shoot an inky liquid that darkens the water, confusing the other animals. The octopus can also change to gray, brown, pink, blue, or- green to mix with its surroundings. Octopuses may also change color as a way to communicate with other octopuses. Octopuses are solitary creatures that live alone in dens (巢穴)built from rocks, which the octopus moves into place using its powerful arms. Octopuses sometimes even fashion a rock "door” for their dens that pull closed when the octopus is safely inside.

Because of the financial crisis in the US and UK, college students are beginning to struggle to find ways to pay their tuition fees and accommodations.
Recently, two major US student loan (贷款)lenders, Citibank and JPMorgan Chase, announced they were leaving the student loan industry altogether. Because banks currently have a lack of credit, they are reluctant to offer students low-interest loans that need a several-year wait for any return of interest.
In the US, many undergraduates fill up their financial needs with a private loan, although the majority can get government-funded loans. In the 2015-2016 academic year, $ 17 billion in private student loans was used to finance higher education. The lack of private funding has yet to be covered and will hit many US students hard.
Across the Atlantic, UK students have been less troubled by the crisis. Most undergraduates in the UK cover their university expenses with government-funded loans and grams. Their biggest concern is a sudden increase in student rent.
Most young professionals now rent houses, since 80 percent of UK mortgage schemes (按揭计划)have disappeared—a direct result of the credit crisis. This has boosted the house rent market.
In large cities, UK students are paying almost 6.5 percent more in rent than the previous year. Figures from the UK organization Accommodation for Student show students in big les such as London paying an average weekly rent of $ 203.
Yet, despite students' suffering, the number of this year's university applications is expected to grow. During economic slumps, people regard further education as a way to survive tough job market.
32. What does the underlined word “reluctant” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Forced. B. Unwilling. C. Determined. D. Pleasant.
33. What is a big challenge to the American students according to the text?
A. A lack of education.
B. The low-interest loan.
C. The short fall in private funding.
D. A lack of government-funded loan.
34. What are the UK students most concerned about?
A. House rent.
B. Further education.
C. Mortgage schemes.
D. Government-funded loans.
35. What may be the best title for the text?
A. College students in the US and UK are faced with their financial crisis
B. It is the duty for the governments to solve college students' financial crisis
C. Further education is a good way for college students to survive tough job market
D. The private student loan is a good way for college students to overcome the difficulties

M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you?
W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone
to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It's quite a new club— we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize?
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday— Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information. If you join now you can have the first month free.

M: Hi, Ann How’s your new flat?
W: Well, that’s what I’m telling you about. You see, I’ve decided to look for a new place.
M: Why, I thought you liked it. You decorated it very well.
W: Oh, I do. I like the style of it, but the distance is just killing me. Do you think you could help me?
M: Oh, so, what kind of place are you looking for?
W: Well, I,d like to share a flat with one or two roommates within walking distance to school.
M: How much do you want to spend a month?
W: Uh, under 200 pounds, and I’d like a flat with furniture in it.
M: Well, I know there’s a block of flats around the corner that seems to have a few left. I’ll drop by there.
W: Thanks a lot.

Good morning and welcome to the Life Review. Do you know how many men do housework? Recently, a European official group tried to discover what people’s ideas were about the women’s movement. As part of their survey, they asked many men and women the question , “ Who does the housework?” The men answered very differently from the women! The housework they asked people about was preparing meals, washing dishes ? cleaning the house and baby-sitting. 48% of British husbands said they did this kind of work. 51% of Danish men said they helped in the house. 15 % of Italian men said they did the housework. But there was an interesting point of view from the wives. According to British wives, only 38% of their husbands help in the house. And Italian wives complained that their husbands hardly ever help. The Italian and British men didn’t tell the truth. The group found that Danish men were the most truthful husbands. Their answers were the same as their wives.

Dear editor,
I’m writing about the use of pocket money. First of all, I want to tell you how I spend my pocket money. Generally speaking, I spend some of it in buying some useful books and watching films with friends. Then, I put the rest into my own account, in case I meet the urgent situation.
Here I want to give some suggestions to teenagers about how to spend their pocket money. First, they should spend it on things beneficial to themselves, such as study, exercise and friendship. Second, they should make a plan to spend it little by little.
As we all know, the pocket money comes from our parents’ work. We should deal with it properly. So I hope every teenager cherishes the fruits of our parents’ labor and spend money meaningfully.
Yours,
Li Hua
