Have you ever bought something just because the salesman talked you into it? Many people are afraid to support themselves. Dr Robert Albert, author of Stand Up, Speak Out, and Talk Back thinks it' s because their self-respect is low. "There's always a' superior' around--- parent, a teacher, a boss---who knows better."‎ But Albert and other scientists are doing something to help people help themselves. They offer "assertiveness training" courses A.T. for short. In the A.T. Course people learn that they have a right to be themselves. They learn to speak out and feel good about doing so. They learn to be aggressive without hurting other people.‎ In one way, learning to speak out is to get rid of fear. A group taking an A. T. Course will help the timid person to lose his fear. But A.T. uses an even stronger motive--- he needs to share. The timid person speaks out in the group because he wants to tell how he feels. Whether or not you speak up for yourself depends on your self-respect. If someone you face is more "important" than you, you may feel less of a person. You start to doubt your answers to problems. You can get to feel good about yourself. And once you do, you can learn to speak out.‎ ‎21. The problem the writer talks about is that __________.‎ A. some people buy things they don't want B. some people are afraid to speak out for their rights C. there are too many superiors D. some people don't think enough of themselves ‎22. The cause of the problem talked about in this passage is that _________.‎ A. some people have a low self-respect B. there is always someone around who "knows better"‎ C. salesmen talk people into buying things they don't want D. people don t share enough ‎23. A good title for this passage could be "__________".‎ A. The Need to Share B. Talk Back When Necessary C. One Way to Build Self-Respect D. One Way to Train Speaking Ability B Understanding one's own history is important for young people's learning and ‎ development. Students are often asked to write a story about their own family's history or about a special person in their family. But too rarely do students focus on the history of their own community or their own people, in a way that helps them to understand why they find themselves in a particular situation.‎ ‎ When people understand their own history, they are able to grapple with the influence of the social structures that sometimes limit the possibilities in their lives. Taking this approach opens the door for young people to be managers of their own learning and development as they understand why they find themselves where they are. ,‎ ‎ Many people I have been talking to about this issue agree that not only schools but also public bodies and families have failed to educate young people about their own history. And I know from my own experience how difficult it was for my father to talk about his family's experience in 1944.This may be a reflection of the sadness that people feel about that history and not wanting to make it a burden on their young people. But in today's situation, those I spoke with now clearly see that as a mistake.‎ If our society is ever to find a way to properly deal with the influence of our own history, including what has happened to our Native American, African-American and Latino friends, our schools must step up to help young people understand their own stories. Families and related social bodies must do the same.‎ ‎24. According to Paragraph 1, a good knowledge of our own history can help us_____.‎ ‎ A. become good at writing stories ‎ B. make our influence on the society stronger ‎ C. gain a good understanding of our present situation ‎ D. understand the importance of learning and development ‎25. What does the underlined phrase "grapple with" in Paragraph 2 mean?‎ ‎ A. Manage. B. Recover. C. Exercise. D. Determine.‎ ‎26. It can be inferred from Paragraph 3 that the author's family's experience in 1944 was_____.‎ ‎ A. interesting B. surprising C. harmful D. painful ‎27. The passage mainly encourages us to_____.‎ A. write our own stories ‎ B. learn our own history C. understand the importance of history D. have a proper attitude towards history C We were driving in the right lane (车道) when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped ‎ out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver stopped our car suddenly and luckily missed the other car’s back end by just inches (英寸)! The driver of the other car, the guy who almost caused a big accident, turned his head angrily and started shouting bad words at us. ‎ My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, my taxi driver was friendly. So, I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to hospital!” And this was what my taxi driver told me - “The Law of the Garbage (垃圾) Truck.”‎ Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. When their garbage piles up (堆积), they need a place to drop it off. And if you let them, they’ll drop it off on you. When someone wants to drop it off on you, don’t take it personally. You just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. You’ll be happy if you do so.‎ So this was it: “The Law of the Garbage Truck.” I started thinking, how often do I let Garbage Trucks drop their garbage off on me? And how often do I take their garbage and spread it to other people: at work, at home, or on the streets? It was that day I said, “I’m not going to do it anymore.”‎ I began to see garbage trucks. I see the garbage they’re carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don’t make it a personal thing. I just smile, wave, and move on.‎ Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know that they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. What about you? The mark of a successful person is how quickly they can turn their attention back to what’s important.‎ ‎28. Who acted like a garbage truck in the first two paragraphs?‎ ‎ A. The writer. B. The taxi driver. ‎ C. The black car driver. D. None of them.‎ ‎29. The driver of the black car got angry because _______.‎ A. he couldn’t control his car B. he met with a garbage truck C. the taxi driver made a mistake D. he was angry at that moment ‎ ‎30. When saying “I’m not going to do it anymore” in paragraph 4, the writer meant he’d no longer _______.‎ A. see garbage trucks B. drop garbage off on others C. have garbage dropped off on him D. be a garbage truck himself ‎31. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?‎ A. Try to be good leaders as well as good parents.‎ B. Ignore unpleasantness and stick to your tasks. ‎ C. Be kind and hard-working throughout our life. ‎ D. Do things quickly so as to be ready for the next.‎ D Teenagers’ fitness (健康) is now a major concern, to which physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientists Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers: “First, you need to find out your present level (水平) of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.”‎ Dr. Lopez suggests that there are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. “Inactive” mean that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. “Active” refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high fitness level.‎ According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should keep active to keep healthy. “Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn calories.” Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching (伸展) exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, starting with twenty of each a day. “Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger,” said Dr. Lopez. The same principle applies to (适用于) active teenagers. ‎ Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. “These are really important in order to prevent (预防) injuries,” Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person’s strength. ‎ ‎32. What can we learn from the passage?‎ A. Active people always have a high fitness level. ‎ B. Overweight people always take more exercise.‎ C. Inactive teenagers are not seriously overweight.‎ D. Keeping fit means changing teenagers’ lifestyle. ‎ ‎33. Which of the following statements is NOT the reason why physical exercise is important?‎ A. It can make the teenagers grow taller. ‎ B. It can help teenagers become healthier. ‎ C. It can help to burn up calories. ‎ D. It can increase teenagers’ strength. ‎ ‎34. In order to prevent injuries, you should do some _______ exercises.‎ A. walking B. stretching and bending ‎ C. riding D. weight-training ‎35. What is the best title for the passage?‎ A. Doing exercises. B. Teenagers’ Fitness. ‎ C. Different lifestyles. D. Overweight Teenagers.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Does this situation seem familiar (熟悉的) to you? Your English is progressing well, the grammar is now familiar, understanding passages is no problem for you, and you are speaking quite fluently. 36 ‎ ‎ First of all, remember that you are not alone. Listening is probably the most difficult job for almost all learners of English as a foreign language. The most important thing is to listen as often as possible. 37 The Internet is the most useful tool, which offers English learners all kinds of resources. ‎ ‎ Once you have begun to listen on a regular basis, you might still be frustrated (受挫折) by limited understanding. 38 Here is my advice:‎ ‎ ● Accept the fact that you are not going to understand everything. ‎ ‎ ● Stay relaxed when you do not understand, and try listening to the material for more times.‎ ‎ ● Do not translate everything into your native language.‎ ‎ ● 39 Don’t pay too much attention to details before you have understood the main ideas.‎ ‎ ● Listen to something you enjoy.‎ I remember: in the beginning, when I didn’t understand a word, I insisted on translating it in my mind. But this method doesn’t always work. 40 Firstly, translating sometimes creates a barrier (障碍) between the listener and the speaker. Secondly, most people repeat themselves constantly (不断地), so by keeping calm, I noticed that even if I did not pay much attention I could usually understand what they had said. So there’s no need to worry about your listening. Just practice it!‎ A. Listen for the general idea of the conversation.‎ B. But you can’t follow a native English speaker at all! ‎ C. However, after several weeks, I got used to speaking English.‎ D. Six months later, I discovered two very important facts.‎ E. But listening is a problem for most of the beginners!‎ F. What should you do?‎ G. So, what you need to do is to find listening resources.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分50分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ In 1989, an 8.2 earthquake hit America, which killed over 30,000 people. Firstly, by looking at our own country from outside, we can widen our vision and broaden our minds. Secondly, we can visit famous scenic spots and make friends with the local people. Thirdly, we can use the foreign language in our daily life so that our ability in the second language may be improved quickly. ‎ However, there are also some disadvantages in attending a foreign school. The most serious problem is the language barrier. Most students do not have adequate knowledge of the language spoken there. On arriving there, they find it difficult to understand what the teachers are saying. Furthermore, the cost of living is much higher than that in our country, so most students have to find part-time jobs to support themselves. Faced with these difficulties, many students find themselves unable to pay full attention to their studies and learn little. ‎ On the whole, it is a good thing to study abroad. However, one must not lose sight of the disadvantages.‎
