Artie Shaw was born in New York City in 1910.His parents were poor persons who had come to the United States from Eastern Europe. At the age of fourteen, he began to play the saxophone(萨克斯管) and then the clarinet(竖笛).From very young age, Artie Shaw wanted to play his clarinet better than anyone He wanted his sound and music to be perfect, so he began working as a professional musician when he was fifteen, and he left home and began playing in bands across the United States.
In 1927, young Artie Shaw traveled to Chicago, Illinois to hear the great trumpet (小号) player, Louis Armstrong. He immediately understood that Armstrong's great jazz sound was the beginning of something new and exciting. Artie left Chicago with a growing interest in jazz music, Soon after, he moved to New York City. He got work playing the clarinet for the Columbia Broadcast System radio network.in1936, he was given chance to found his band and play at New York's famous Imperial Theater on Broadway. His group was not the top band in the show. But the crowd loved his music. This proved to be a major step in his career.
In 1938, Artie Shaw and his band recorded what would be one of their most popular songs. It sold millions of records. It still sells several thousand each year. Shaw was surprised that it became so popular. The song is "Begin the Beguine" written by Cole Porter. However, the fame caused problems for Shaw. He could not go anywhere without being recognized. He no longer had a private life.
On Dec.13th, 2004, Artie Shaw died after a long sickness. He was ninety-four years old. He was the last great musician and bandleader of what has been called the "Big Band Era".

The market watchdog(市场监督部门)in northwest China's Xi'an has started a survey in-to a complaint that a woman's newly bought Mercedes-Benz car has engine oil leaks(漏).The incident has attracted wide attention after a video of a woman sitting on top of a Mercedes-Benz while weeping and arguing with salesmen went viral online. In the video posted on Weibo by a net friend on April 11,the woman said she found an oil leak when she was driving the car home from the 4S store. After she drove the car back, the trader claimed the car had passed all tests before it was sold. She was told she couldn't get her money back nor change a new car for her. All that the trader could offer was to change the engine. The CLS300 car cost around 660,000 yuan($98,445).
The customer met with officials from the market watchdog of Gaoxin District on Satur-day, requesting a full maintenance(维修)history of the car and an independent test by a third-party, Shaanxi TV Station reported.
Mercedes-Benz issued an announcement on its Weibo account on Saturday, saying it was sorry for the customer's "unpleasant experience". The company has sent a team to Xi’an to help solve the issue.

But a new study suggests that if you're watching your blood pressure, taking a midday nap may be a step in the right direction
It's long been known that naps, when done right, can leave you feeling fresh and energetic. Whether they can carry any immediate cardiovascular(心血管的) benefits has been less clear, even though this could affect the health of millions of people around the world.
"We all know that lifestyle changes stand for the basis of treatment for high blood pressure," says Manolis Kallistratos, MD, an expert at Asklepieion General Hospital in Voula, Greece."We also know that certain cultures have the habit of sleep during midday." These two observations led Dr. Kallistratos and his colleagues to survey the effects of napping on blood pressure in a number of different ways.
On March 18, a study was showed at the American College of Cardiology 2019 meeting in New Orleans. Scientists wanted to find out whether taking a nap can influence people whose blood pressure is fairly well controlled, but who could still benefit from lower levels. The study included 212 adults with an average age of 62, whose average systolic blood pressure was 129.9 mmHg. The researchers found that people who napped had systolic blood pressure that was 5.3 mmHg lower, on average than in those who didn't nap.
