If you are on the market to get a good enameled (搪瓷的)Dutch oven; chances are that you may find some French brands, such as Le Creuset and Staub. Nevertheless, when you are considering buying one, you may immediately find these cost a few hundred bucks.
Among the hottest brands, designed for only about $95 with a lifetime guarantee (担保),Input Milo now offers only one item, which can really compete with those hot French ovens.
Style and Design
Because of a promise to source the finest item and to employ the finest achievable style and design, the Milo Dutch oven is really a kettle using a value that can not be overcome. The oven has a normal size,12 pounds,in 5.5 quarts (夸脱),for all cooking jobs, hardy and enameled with small handles. And the very low cost comes chiefly by cutting out the middleman and attempting to sell directly to shoppers. Milo VS. Other Brand Names
Milo plans to compete with the greater brand names because its style and operation are all equal to those. Cheaper Dutch ovens tend to be somewhat short-term, while Milo is devoted to producing products that survive a life or even longer.

Though sometimes we may lose our ability to do something we love, passions (激情) don’t have to end. Suzelle Poole of Dallas, Texas is living proof of that. The 79-year-old has been dancing for more than seven decades.
Suzelle started ballet when she was just 7 years old, and her devotion only grew stronger as her talent increased in the following years. In fact, Suzelle was so talented that she went to perform all around the world! Like most professional ballerinas (芭蕾舞女),Suzelle expected a short-lived career. “When I was about 26,1 knew I only had a few years left,”she said. It’s simply the nature of the art form because the movements are so hard on people’s bodies. But Suzelle’s body didn’t wear out at 26 — or even 56! At one point, she broke her arm but she was dancing again by the following week.
Nowadays she focuses on teaching the next generation of ballerinas at the Royale Ballet Dance Academy, where she and her students regularly perform for senior residents in assisted living facilities.
Suzelle has become such an inspiration that CBS News reporter Steve Hartman and his 5-year-old daughter Meryl recently traveled to Dallas to interview her. Steve’s little girl couldn’t wait to meet and dance with the woman she wants to become.
During the interview, Suzelle said, UI don’t find it hard to dance ‘when you’re old.’” She also shared a piece of wisdom: “Ballet helps everything,” she said. “If you’re not feeling very well, you go to a ballet class, and you feel better after.” Meryl nodded knowingly. She also added, “Ballet could always cheer me up whenever I feel depressed.”
It’s no wonder Suzelle has no plans to hang up her pointe shoes. Why would she give up something that brings her so much joy?
4. Why did Suzelle at her 26 think her career would end soon?
A. The nature of the body didn’t allow lasting performance.
B. The audience didn’t like her performance.

C. To inspire Meryl to pursue her dancing dream.
D. To realise Meryl’s dream of dancing with famous people.
6. In Suzelle’s opinion, ballet dance ___________.
A. benefits people’s mental health
B. should be taught at primary school
C. is less attractive to the young
D. raises people’s interest in art
7. What does the underlined part in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Suzelle will go to find other joy of life.
B. Suzelle will carry on her ballet career.
C. Suzelle will put away her ballet shoes.

Many people struggle to keep their weight in check as getting older. Now new research at Karolinska Institute in Sweden has found that lipid turnover (脂质代谢)in the fat tissue (组织)decreases when people are getting older, which makes it easier to put on weight, even if we eat less or exercise more than before.
The scientists studied the fat cells in 54 men and women over an average period of 13 years. In
that time, all subjects, regardless of whether they gained or lost weight, showed decreases in lipid turnover in the fat tissue, and that is the rate at which lipid (or fat) in the fat cells is removed and stored. Those who didn’t make up for that by eating fewer calories gained weight by an average of 20 percent, according to the study done together with researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden and the University of Lyon in France.
The researchers also examined lipid turnover in 41 women who underwent bariatric surgery (减肥手术)and how the lipid turnover rate affected their ability to keep the weight off four to seven years after surgery. The result showed only those who had a low rate before the surgery managed to increase their lipid turnover and maintain their weight loss.
“For the first time, the results showed that processes in our fat tissue rule changes in body weight during aging in a way that is independent of other factors,” says Peter Arner, one of the study’s main authors. “This could open up new ways to deal with obesity (肥胖).”
Earlier studies have shown one way to speed up the lipid turnover in the fat tissue is to exercise more. This new research supports this and further shows the long-term result of weight-loss surgery would improve if combined with increased physical activity.
Obesity and obesity-related diseases have become a global problem. Understanding the change in lipids and what rules the size of the fat mass in humans has never been so significant to us. Therefore, let’s expect the researchers to have more findings in this field to help us keep a healthy body.
8. What’s the study about?
A. How physical activities change body weight.
B. Why people gain weight during aging.
C. Why people enjoy losing weight.
D. How a balanced diet benefits us.
9. What can we learn from Paragraphs 2 and 3?
A. Men have a much higher lipid turnover rate than women.
B. The amount of fat tissue decreases with people getting older.
C. People with a low lipid turnover rate can lose weight surgically.
D. The study result was discovered by Swedish scientists independently.
10. What can be inferred from Peter Arner’s words in Paragraph 4?
A. Scientists understand the lipid turnover rate for the first time.
B. Doing more exercise will surely increase the lipid turnover rate.
C. The lipid turnover has little connection with body weight.
D. Knowing about the lipid turnover rate may help treat obesity.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards the research?
A. Favorable. B. Surprised.
C. Negative. D. Doubtful.
D
Earlier today, I ate a scoop of chocolate ice cream —creamy and pleasantly fatty feeling in my mouth. This would hardly seem newsworthy, except for the high-tech ingredients (成分)that made my frozen treat go down so smoothly: dairy proteins produced in a lab, no cows needed.
The plant-based meat products have drawn lots of attention lately. Yet, there’s another frontier (前沿) along these lines — start-ups that create eggs, daily products and other animal proteins without the animals.
Among the early members in this field is Perfect Day, producer of the ice cream mentioned above. The company took the genetic code for the main proteins in whey (乳清),and then had it combined with DNA. In frozen desserts, whey protein provides silk taste. Perfect Day released their ice cream in a limited run of about 1,000 3-pint boxes as a way to introduce consumers to its technology. But what the company wants is far from this. They actually plan to offer ingredients to all the food companies that rely on whey to improve protein levels in a range of foods.
Some believe the new proteins are beneficial to our lives, considering livestock (家畜)agriculture uses lots of water and land resources and produces significant amounts of greenhouse gases. “If you can produce just the proteins without keeping a living animal, that’s going to be a lot more efficient, so it contributes to the environmental protection,” says Bruce Friedrich of the Good Food Institute.
However, some people — like Dana Perls, who works for the environmental group Friends of the Earth — are concerned that the FDA won’t pay enough attention to this new wave of man-made proteins. She noted that the real solution to climate change and animal welfare problems is the truly plant-based sources of proteins. She also worries that products made with man-made dairy proteins may not have the same nutritional content — such as vitamin and mineral content — as those made with milk from real cows.
12. What’s Perfect Day’s main purpose according to Paragraph 3?
A. To create more delicious ice cream.
B. To change people’s attitudes towards DNA technology.
C. To become the world’s biggest producer of dairy products.
D. To become an ingredient supplier-to food companies needing whey.
13. What do die supporters think of the man-made proteins?
A. They gain widespread support among farmers.
B. They are healthier than traditional proteins.
C. They can help improve livestock agriculture.
D. They are environmental-friendlier than traditional proteins.
14. Which of the following statements will Dana Perls probably agree?
A. Man-made proteins are similar to those from cow’s milk.
B. The value of the man-made proteins is yet to be studied.
C. People should be encouraged to have manmade dairy products.
D. The new proteins have proven to have higher nutritional value.
15. What is the text mainly about?
A. People’s opinions on food technology.
B. An introduction to man-made dairy proteins.
C. Various advantages of man-made dairy proteins.
D. People’s concerns about environmental problems.

My grandmother sounded the horn (喇叭) and I ran out the front door to meet her. She sat smiling in the driver’s seat.
“Where are we going?” I asked, even though it really didn’t matter. I enjoyed spending time with her whatever we did.
“You’ll see,” she said joyfully. She was only five-foot tall, but she made up for it with her big personality and even bigger heart.
We drove out of my neighborhood and past the middle school I attended until we ended up in a place I’d never been to. At first I thought it was apartments, but the brick buildings weren’t connected and it seemed more like a small and poor community. Wet clothes hung in front of the houses. Men walked around shirtless, staring at us as we pulled into an empty parking space. I immediately locked my door.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of, sweetheart,” my grandmother said and smiled as she took my hand.
Before she turned off the engine of the car, I saw two familiar faces walking our way. It was Deidre and her mother from our church. My grandmother quickly hugged the woman and said, “Let’s do some shopping! The Christmas is coming. Buy something for the big event.” The woman smiled and agreed.
I came into the backseat with Deidre, who also attended my school. We chatted until pulling into our town, s local mall. Deidre and I walked into a popular store where most girls at our age shopped and in the window a piece of advertisement read “Back to School Sale!” We ran in. There were many things to choose from bright-colored shoes and shirts to match. My grandmother and Deidre’s mom helped us find the right sizes. But before we made it to the dressing room, Deidre stopped so suddenly that I nearly ran into her.
Paragraph 1:

“Look at these! ” she said as she picked up a pair of orange duck shoes.
Paragraph 2:
__________________________________________________________________
Hearing her mom’s words, Deidre shook her head disappointedly.

第二节
Paragraph 1:
“Look at these!” she said as she picked up a pair of orange duck shoes. She looked at them happily and touched them carefully. And then she took her socks off to try them on. She joyfully said, “Aren’t they the loveliest things you’ve ever seen?” But before I could agree, her mother shouted at her, asked her to take off the shoes and then gave her a look of disagreement. “You don’t need these, Deidre,” she said with a serious look.
Paragraph 2:
Hearing her mom’s words, Deidre shook her head disappointedly. She put the shoes back on the shelf. A few steps away, my grandmother heard the exchange and changed the subject with lighthearted conversation. An hour later, with some clothes in hand, we were done. We waved goodbye to Deidre and her mom. Later, my grandmother said, “Well, we have one more thing left to buy. We’re going back for those orange shoes. It’ll be our gift to Deidre.” I was very glad because my grandma showed me the meaning of kindness in her own way.
