Yet these are not girls in their teens or twenties but women in their sixties and seventies. A generation which would once only wear old-fashioned clothes is now favouring the same high street looks worn by those half their age.‎ Professor Julia Twigg, a social policy expert, said, “Women over 75 are now shopping for clothes more frequently than they did when they were young in the 1960s. In the 1960s buying a coat for a woman was a serious matter. It was an expensive item that they would purchase only every three or four years—now you can pick one up at the supermarket whenever you wish to. Fashion is a lot cheaper and people get tired of things more quickly.”‎ Professor Twigg analysed family expenditure (支出) data and found that while the percentage of spending on clothes and shoes by women had stayed around the same—at 5 or 6 per cent of spending—the amount of clothes bought had risen sharply.‎ The professor said, “Clothes are now 70 per cent cheaper than they were in the 1960s because of the huge expansion of production in the Far East. In the 1960s Leeds was the heart of the British fashion industry and that was where most of the clothes came from, but now almost all of our clothes are sourced elsewhere. Everyone is buying more clothes but in general we are not spending more money on them.”‎ Fashion designer Angela Barnard, who runs her own fashion business in London, said older women were much more affected by celebrity (名流) style than in previous years.‎ She said, “When people see stars such as Judi Dench and Helen Mirrea looking attractive and fashionable in their sixties, they want to follow them. Older women are much more aware of There’s also the boom in TV showing people how they can change their look, and many of my older customers do yoga to stay in shape well in their fifties. When I started my business a few years ago, my older customers tended to be very rich, but now they are what I would call ordinary women. My own mother is 61 and she wears the latest fashions in a way she would never have done ten years ago.”‎ ‎25. Professor Twigg found that, compared with the 1960s, .‎ A. the price of clothes has generally fallen by 70%‎ B. people spend 30% less than they did on clothes C. the spending on clothes has increased by 5% or 6%‎ D. the amount of clothes bought has risen by 5% or 6%‎ ‎26. Boom of the British Fashion Industry C As globalization continues to make the world a smaller place, and goods become more accessible across borders, concerns about food safety in the Asia Pacific region have steadily risen over the years. An APEC forum is being held in Beijing, to find ways to better address the problem.‎ ‎156 participants from 19 APEC economies and 4 nonAPEC members attended the APEC Food Safety Cooperation Forum. Created 7 years ago, the forum has been actively looking for ways to strengthen food safety standard in the region, without affecting trade.‎ ‎“As consumers are faced with more varieties of food, the potential food safety risk also becomes bigger. This forum has helped APEC economies to cooperate in supervision (监督), exchange information, and improve the overall food safety standard in the Asia Pacific region,’’ said director of China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision Wu Qinghai.‎ For the first time the forum has brought together high-level regulators, academics, and industry stakeholders to talk about their respective roles in safety supervision. They say governments alone cannot shoulder this heavy duty.‎ In China, the continuous food safety problems have greatly hurt consumers’ confidence in domestic products; therefore more turned to imports. However, problems related to quality of those imported goods also began to show. In July this year, more than 400 batches (批) of food imports from 35 countries and regions were found substandard by the country’s top quality supervisor.‎ Governments and industries have been brought closer by this forum. As food moves more freely beyond borders, this forum is hoped to promote safety control cooperation, so APEC can better benefit from the economic integration (经济一体化).‎ ‎29. However, light pollution may be a new term to many of us. But, the fact is, it does affect mankind, other living forms and the environment as a whole.‎ What is light pollution? It presents all forms of misused man-made light. The obvious cause of light pollution is the use of outdoor lighting products improperly. It can be office lighting, car headlights, station lights, streetlights and many more.‎ Light pollution is harmful to both animals and plants. Upon studies, it is found that obvious effects are observed in the behaviour of nocturnal animals. Needless to mention, bright light at night makes it difficult for these animals to hunt, wander and perform their regular activities. Light pollution is directly or indirectly responsible for causing several diseases. Its effects are related to disturbance in the physical rhythm. It contributes to risks of developing cancerous cells. So, it’s nothing less than a threat to human health.‎ You have already seen the negative effects of light pollution on animals and human health. Apart from this, the actual cost of misused light is about millions of dollars every year. It also leads to the release of greenhouse gases and global warning. After all, fuels are used for producing electricity.‎ While outdoor lighting and using man-made lighting products are part of our modern lifestyle, some simple ways will surely help in reducing light pollution. For example, while installing outdoor lighting, make sure that they are pointed downwards. Also, use only the required lighting equipment for both home and offices. Believe it or not, many people living in the urban areas cannot view clear sky and stars at night. Let’s contribute our part in reducing the ‎ pollution.‎ ‎32. What can we learn about light pollution?‎ A. It has no effect on plants.‎ B. It contributes to most cancers.‎ C. It is a negative fruit of light technology.‎ D. It affects animals’ normal activities in the daytime.‎ ‎33. How does light pollution affect the climate?‎ A. It reduces temperatures by days and makes nights warmer.‎ B. It creates more clouds over parts of the Earth.‎ C. It stops the release of greenhouse gases.‎ D. It causes global temperatures to go up.‎ ‎34. How can we contribute our part in reducing light pollution?‎ A. Forbiding the use of outdoor lighting.‎ B. Using clean energy to produce electricity.‎ C. Not using unnecessary lights at home and offices.‎ D. Reducing money spent on man-made light in urban areas.‎ ‎35. It can be inferred from the last paragragh that .‎ A. citizens should be forbidden to install outdoor lighting B. only simple ways can help reduce light pollution C. there is no clear sky or stars over the urban areas D. light pollution needs to be dealt with urgently ‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Empathy (共鸣)‎ Last year, researchers from the University of Michigan reported that empathy, the ability to understand other people, among college students had dropped shanty over the past 10 years. 36 Today, people spend more time alone and are less likely to join groups and clubs.‎ Jennifer Freed, a co-director of a teen program, has another explanation. Turn on the TV, and you’re showered with news ad reality shows full of people fighting, competing, and generally ‎ treating one another with no respect. 37 ‎ There are good reasons not to follow those bad examples. Humans are socially related by nature. 38 Researchers have also found that empathetic teenagers are more likely to have high self-respect. Besides, empathy can be a cure for loneliness, sadness, anxiety, and fear.‎ Empathy is also an indication of a good leader. In fact, Freed says, many top companies report that empathy is one of the most important things they look for in new managers. 39 “Academics are important. But if you don’t have emotional intelligence, you won’t be as successful in work or in your love life,’’ she says.‎ What’s the best way to up your EQ? For starters, let down your guard and really listen to others. 40 ‎ To really develop empathy, you’d better volunteer at a nursing home or a hospital, join a club or a team that has a diverse membership, have a “sharing circle” with your family, or spend time caring for pets at an animal shelter.‎ A. Everyone is different, and levels of empathy differ from person to person.‎ B. That could be because so many people have replaced face time with screen time, the researchers said.‎ C. “One doesn’t develop empathy by having a lot of opinions and doing a lot of talking,” Freed says.‎ D. Humans learn by example—and most of the examples on it are anything but empathetic.‎ E. Empathy is a matter of learning how to understand someone else—both what they think and how they feel.‎ F. Good social skills—including empathy—are a kind of “emotional intelligence” that will help you succeed in many areas of life.‎ G. Having relationships with other people is an important part of being human—and having empathy is decisive to those relationships.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分35分)‎ 第一节(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Dear son, ‎ The day when you see me old and I am already not in good health, have patience and try to understand me.‎ If I get dirty when eating, if I cannot dress myself, have patience. I enjoy relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching the world going by. At about 11 o’clock, my car arrives and takes me to ‎ the studio, where I meet the other members of the band and start working. Usually, we begin with the problems of the previous day. At about three in the afternoon, we stop for lunch. After that we continue recording. I am careful with my voice. I never sing if I feel tired and I drink a lot of water during the day.‎ I usually arrive home at about half past six or seven. I never go to bed too late as I don’t want to be tired for the studio next day.‎
