Albert was an ordinary worker in an oil company in America. His workmates gave a nickname (绰号) “Four dollars a bucket (桶)” to him, for he was always used to leaving an advertisement of his company “Four dollars a bucket of oil” below his
name whenever and wherever he wrote down his name.
As time went by, people forgot his real name. Later, when Rockefeller, the board chairman of the oil company, heard of it, he was very surprised, so he invited Albert to come to his office.
“Some people give you a nickname for ‘Four dollars a bucket’. Why aren’t you angry?” asked Rockefeller with some puzzlement in his eyes.
“Oh! Mr. Rockefeller! I like this nickname very much, because ‘Four dollars a bucket’ is our company’s advertisement. As long as someone calls me ‘Four dollars a bucket’ once, I think it’s a free advertisement for our company. I have no reason to get angry. Don’t you think so, Mr. Rockefeller?”
“Oh! What a fantastic man!” Rockefeller said excitedly when hearing Albert’s words. “Young man, work harder! You must succeed in the future! I believe in you!”
Five years later, Albert became the second board chairman after Rockefeller.

Tea drinking was common in China for nearly one thousand years before anyone in Europe had ever heard about it. People in Britain were much slower in finding out what tea was like, mainly because tea was very expensive. It could not be bought in shops and even those people who could afford to have it sent from Holland did so only because it was a fashionable curiosity. Some of them were not sure how to use it. They thought it was a vegetable and tried cooking the leaves. Then they served them mixed with butter and salt. They soon discovered their mistake but many people used to spread the used tea leaves on bread and give them to their children as sandwiches.
Tea remained scarce (稀少) and very expensive in England until the ships of the East India Company began to bring it directly from China early in the 17th century. During the next few year so much tea came into the country that the price fell and many people could afford to buy it.
At the same time people on the Continent were becoming more and more fond of tea. Until then tea had been drunk without milk in it, but one day a famous French lady named Madame de Sevigne decided to see what tea tasted like when milk was added. She found it so pleasant that she would never again drink it without milk. She was such a great lady that her friends thought they must copy everything she did, so they also drank their tea with milk in it. Slowly this habit spread until it reached England and today only very few Britons drink tea without milk.
At first, tea was usually drunk after dinner in the evening. No one ever thought of drinking tea in the afternoon until a duchess (公爵夫人) found that a cup of tea and a piece of cake at three or four o’clock stopped her getting “a sinking feeling” as she called it. She invited her friends to have this new meal with her and so, teatime was born.
28. What do we know about the introduction of tea into Britain?
A. Tea reached Britain from Holland.
B. The Britons got expensive tea from India.
C. The Britons were the first people in Europe who drank tea.
D. It was not until the 17th century that the Britons had tea.
29. When did tea become a popular drink in Britain?
A. In the late 19th century. B. In the 18th century.
C. In the 17th century. D. In the 16th century.
30. The underlined words “this habit” in Paragraph 3 refers to ________.
A. drinking tea with milk in it B. drinking tea without milk in it
C. drinking tea after dinner D. drinking tea in the afternoon
31. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. The history of tea. B. The ways of making tea.
C. The birth of teatime. D. The habit of drinking tea.

The World Happiness Report, a United Nations agency report, measures (估量) how happy people are, and why. Norway is the happiest place on Earth—beating neighbour Denmark from the number one position.
Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Finland round out the top five, while the Central African Republic came last. Western Europe and North America took up most of the places at the top of table, with the US and UK at 14th and 19th.
The World Happiness Report mainly depends on asking a simple question of more than 1,000 people every year in more than150 countries. “Imagine a ladder (梯子), with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top,” the question asks, “The top of the ladder is the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder is the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?”
The average result is the country’s score—from Norway’s 7.54 to the Central African Republic’s 2.69. But the report also tries to explain why one country is happier than another. It looks at reasons including economic strength (经济实力) social support, freedom of choice, and generosity.
This year’s report also has a text titled “restoring (恢复) American happiness”, which examines why happiness levels in the United States are falling,
despite continually-increasing economic improvement. “The United States can and should raise happiness by solving America’s social problems- rising inequality and distrust-rather than focusing mainly on economic growth,” the authors said.
Jeffrey Sachs, the director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, which published the report, said President Donald Trump’s policies were likely to make things worse.
32. Which of the following is the correct order of the countries in terms of happiness levels?
A. Denmark, the UK, the US, the Central African Republic
B. Denmark, the US, the UK, the Central African Republic
C. the US, Denmark, the UK, the Central African Republic
D. Denmark, the US, the Central African Republic, the UK
33. How does the World Happiness Report measure happiness?
A. By asking a question. B. By having a conversation.
C. By doing scientific research. D. By carrying out an online survey.
34. What can we know about America form the passage?
A. Its people live an unhappy life.
B. Its economy is going downhill.
C. Its social problems are hard to solve.
D. It has a lower happiness level than before.
35. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the passage?
A. To explain the reason for being happy.
B. To introduce the World Happiness Report.
C. To talk about America’s social problem.
D. To discuss the policies by Donald Trump.

Being a teenager can be challenging, but it can also be exciting. ____36____ You are also learning to take risks and solve problems better.
Changes are happening throughout your body, even in your brain. ____37____ Imagine the structure of your brain is like a big road map. Lots of roads lead to different destinations. When you were a child as you learnt new things, your brain created more and more roads to different destinations. ____38____ Now your brain makes that map more efficient.
As a result, your experiences as a teenager actually influence the way that your brain develops. If you spend hours playing video games, what skills do you use?
____39____ As you develop those skills, your brain is making sure that the roads leading to them are especially fast and efficient.
This is a great time for you to practice new skills and discover what you are good at and what you love most. ____40____ Remember that with everything you do, you’re shaping your brain for the future.
A. The changes in your brain are influencing how you develop into an adult.
B. Playing cards with your mind can make your memory better.
C. You’re becoming more and more independent and making decisions for yourself.
D. So try different activities, and stick to them if you think they’re useful.
E. By the time you become a teenager, many different roads lead to the most important places on the map.
F. You learn to see something with your eyes and respond to it with your hands.
G. Different people have different change in the body.
38. E 39. F
40. D
根据下一句“You are also learning to take risks and solve problems better.”(你也在学习承担风险,更好地解决问题。)此句中的also提示上文应该是并列结构,C选项“You’re becoming more and more independent and making decisions for yourself.”(你变得越来越独立,自己做决定。)
根据前一句“Changes are happening throughout your body, even in your brain.”(变化正在你的全身发生,甚至在你的大脑里。) A选项“The changes in your brain are influencing how you develop into an adult.”(你大脑中的变化会影响你如何成长为一个成年人。)
空格前一句为“When you were a child as you learnt new things, your brain created more and more roads to different destinations.”(当你还是个孩子的时候,你学习新事物的时候,你的大脑会创造出越来越多通往不同目的地的道路。),再根据空格下一句“Now your brain makes that map more efficient.”(现在你的大脑使这个地图更有效率。) E选项“By the time you become a teenager, many different roads lead to the most important places on the map.”(当你成为一个青少年的时候,许多不同的道路通向地图上最重要的地方。)
根据空前一句“If you spend hours playing video games, what skills do you use?”(如果你长时间玩电子游戏,你会用到什么技能?),空中用来回答此提问,F选项“You learn to see something with your eyes and respond to it with your hands.”(你学会用眼睛看东西,然后用手回应。)
根据空前一句“This is a great time for you to practice new skills and discover what you are good at and what you love most.”(这是你练习新的技能,发现你擅长什么和你最喜欢什么的最佳时间。)D选项“So try different activities, and stick to them if you think they’re useful.”(所以尝试不同的活动,如果你觉得有用就坚持下去。)
如表示转折的连词,but,However,yet,though,nevertheless等,另外并列关系的连词如and,also,as well as,neither…nor,either…or,not onlybut also,on one hand.on the other hand等。

would like to do …
that is a student from my class在这里为非限制性定语从句,that不能引导非限制性定语从句,这里用来指人,故将that改为who。

主语为all of us,代词指代应一致,故将their改为our。

look forward to doing 期望做某事,故将receive改为receiving。
在 whether … or not 结构中不能用 if 替换。3.从句为特殊疑问句,常选择what, when, where, which, who, how等疑问代词、疑问副词作引导词。
