Lorna, 16, rushed across and caught up with her dad, who had just kicked open the front door. They looked upstairs where they saw smoke coming out of the top flat. Lorna followed her father into the flat, where they found a pan on fire in the kitchen and the young mother, Mane Linn, who had been asleep, lost consciousness in the smoke-blackened sitting room. While John pulled the crying mother from the house, Lorna, without a thought for her own safety, turned back to search for the baby. Actually, the past decade has seen more and more forests disappearing and the globe becoming increasingly warm. People now realize that this unhealthy situation must be changed, and that we must be able to develop in sustainable (可持续的) ways. That means growth with low carbon or development of sustainable products. In other words, we should keep the earth healthy while using its supply of natural resources.‎ ‎ Today sustainable development is a popular trend in many countries. According to a recent study, the global market for low-carbon energy will become three times bigger over the next decades. China, for example, has set its mind on leading that market, hoping to seize chances in the new round of the global energy revolution. It is now trying hard to make full use of wind and solar energy, and is spending a huge amount of money making electronic cars and high-speed trains. In addition, we are also seeing great growth in the global markets for sustainable products such as palm oil (棕榈油), which is produced without cutting down valuable rainforest. In recent years the markets for sustainable products have grown by more than 50%.‎ ‎ Governments can fully develop the potential of these new markets. First, they can set high targets for reducing carbon emissions (排放) and targets for saving and reusing energy. Besides, stronger arrangement of public resources like forests can also help to speed up the development. Finally, governments can avoid the huge expenses that are taking us in the wrong direction, and redirecting some of those expenses can accelerate the change from traditional model to a sustainable one.‎ ‎ The major challenge of this century is to find ways to meet the needs of growing population within the limits of this single planet. That is no small task, but it offers abundant new chances for sustainable product industries.‎ ‎28. The traditional business model is harmful because of the following EXCEPT that ______.‎ ‎ A. it makes the world warmer ‎ B. it makes growth hard to continue ‎ C. it brings severe damage to forests ‎ D. it consumes natural resources ‎29. What can we infer form Paragraph 2?‎ ‎ A. High-speed trains are a low-carbon development ‎ B. China is the leader of the low-carbon market ‎ C. China lacks wind and solar energy ‎ ‎ D. Palm oil is made at the cost of valuable forests.‎ ‎30. To fully develop the low-carbon markets, government can _______.‎ ‎ A. cut public expenses ‎ B. encourage less carbon emissions ‎ ‎ C. develop public awareness of environment protection ‎ D. forbid carbon emissions ‎31. What is the main purpose of the passage?‎ ‎ A. To introduce a new business model.‎ ‎ B. To compare two business models.‎ ‎ C. To advocate(倡导)sustainable development.‎ ‎ D. To predict(预测)a change of the global market.‎ ‎ D Today too many parenting websites, books, and articles seem to say, “Make your kid do this, even if he cries, because it is good for him.” It’s funny because it’s a ridiculous message, but it’s definitely one of the ideas that seems to be conveyed. It’s probably a message that many parents get whenever they read compelling advice on the “right things to do” with their children.‎ Yes, we know that kids learn things like language and movement skills best at certain stages of growth and maturation(成熟). Whether we are talking about crawling(爬行),language learning, or social development, we know they are particularly receptive(善于接受的)to certain adaptations and “learnings” at different times.‎ Consequently(因此), it’s logical—whenever possible and practical --- that we might want to take advantage of these stages of maturation and development by providing the right learning environments and stimuli (促进因素) at those stages. After all, who wouldn’t want their child to earn a second language when language learning is easiest? Or develop great soccer skills?‎ But we have to remember one thing. It’s wrong to force it with a heavy hammer. I’d be one of the first people to say this. As parents, we need to learn to recognize when our children are ready for a new learning experience or activity. And then we simply ask one question: Is our child actually a willing participant in our little development project?‎ Because children are not robots. And especially during the toddler(学步的儿童) and preschool ages, it’s possible to seriously reduce their emerging sense of initiative(主动性) if we “force them” to do particular physical activities “because it’s good for them”.‎ There are lots of good ways to encourage the personal development of our children. But their early learning and play should never become boot camp (新兵训练营). It should be, and can be, fun.‎ 32. What does the underlined part “compelling advice” in Paragraph1 refer to?‎ A. Recommending parents accompany their kids often.‎ B. Advising parents to educate their kids themselves.‎ C. Persuading parents to create a learning environment.‎ D. Encouraging parents to force their kids to learn. ‎ ‎33. Which of the following does the author seem to agree with?‎ A. Children should learn what their parents arrange. ‎ B. Maturation means being able to learn certain things best. ‎ C. Parents should pay more attention to their kid’s language learning.‎ D. Children learn certain things best at certain stages of growth. ‎ ‎34. What does the author advise parents to do?‎ A. Avoid forcing their kids to learn new things.‎ B. Balance the amount of time kids spend on play.‎ C. Help their kids adapt to new learning environment.‎ D. Encourage their kids to develop as early as possible.‎ ‎35. What would be the best title for the text?‎ A. Children are developing well. ‎ B. Children should say “no”. ‎ C. Children are not robots. ‎ D. Children should have fun . ‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Changing People’s Bad Impression on Us Some of us have made bad first impressions in front of people we wanted to become good friends with. First impressions are important because they form the foundation(基础)on which all future thoughts about someone will be based. 36 However, there are actions you can take to change people’s bad impression of you.‎ Apologize immediately. A sincere apology can go a long way because you will prove to everyone their thoughts about you. Tell the people that you didn’t intend to offend them and that you wish to correct the situation. Explain the reasons why you acted the way you did in your apology. 37 Otherwise, it will make others feel uncomfortable that you keep bringing up the past.‎ Use humor. When you are around the people you made a bad impression in front of, play a small joke on yourself. Once they know you are not afraid to laugh at yourself, it can break up some of the tension. Remember only to direct humor at yourself. 38 ‎ Do not make assumptions. After you have made a bad impression, it can be easy to assume that everyone thinks the worst of you. 39 Instead of assuming what someone thinks about you, explain to him that you feel ashamed about how you acted and ask him how your behavior affected him.‎ ‎ ‎40 In order to overcome a bad first impression, your words and actions in the time to come must be consistently good. With enough time and patience, gaining trust and changing wrong beliefs is possible.‎ A. However, things aren’t always as bad as they seem. ‎ B. First impressions are usually long-lasting.‎ C. So it’s hard to erase a bad first impression from someone’s mind D. Pay attention to future behavior.‎ E. Be mindful of your surroundings and sensitive in what you say to others.‎ F. That way you can avoid any more feelings of discomfort.‎ G. .Be careful not to overdo it.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用 (共两节,满分 45) ‎ 第一节 完形填空(共 20 小题;每小题 1.5 分,满分 30 分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ I will never forget the lunchtime when I was in the second grade. I find people from Vancouver are much more relaxed than people from Toronto, (16) but we’re all from Canada.‎ M: That’s true. Maybe people from Vancouver would like San Francisco, since they’re both West Coast cities. (16)‎ W: Well, they both definitely have nicer weather than here!‎ Text 10‎ Last spring, I visited Mexico City to see the ancient art in the museums there. (17) I was surprised at how well I managed to get around, even though I don’t speak a word of Spanish. (20) You just have to be able to make the right decisions in difficult situations. The manager of my hotel gave me a map of the city and told me that the best way to get to the museum was by subway. (18) I didn’t know where the nearest subway was, but I was sure I would find it if I walked a little. After an hour, I was still walking. I was completely lost. (19) Just then, a policeman came over and showed me the nearest station. I looked at the subway map on the wall and didn’t know which line to take. In fact, I wasn’t sure which station I was in. Most people would give up in that situation, but not me. After I thought about it, I knew exactly what to do. I went upstairs and took a taxi.‎
