Chinese movie goers set a box office record for the eve of the weeklong National Day holiday on Monday, with takings(票房收入) more than twice the previous record, according to several industry trackers. The major blockbusters(大片) contributing to the box office record were three new releases-My People, My Country, The Captain and The Climbers-which all opened on Monday.
Industry analyst Wu Nian said more than 80 film companies invested in the three blockbusters, which would provide a substantial boost to the recently lackluster market.

A disastrous fire surrounded Notre Dame(巴黎圣母院) destroyed large parts of the Gothicarchitecture on Monday
“Notre Dame is our history, our literature; part of our spirit, the place of all our great events, our wars, our liberations, the center of our lives" French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters in front of the still burning Paris landmark and promised to rebuild Notre Dame.
“Notre Dame is burning, andⅠknow the sadness felt by so many fellow French people. But tonight, I’d like to speak of hope too, "he said, announcing the launch of a fundraising campaign.
“Let’s be proud, because we built this cathedral( 大 教 堂 ) more than 800 years ago, we’ve built it and, throughout the centuries, let it grow and improve it. So I gravely( 严 肃 地 ) say tonight: we will rebuild it together, ”he added.
The disastrous fire engulfed( 吞没) the upper reaches of Paris’ towering Notre Dame Cathedral as it was undergoing renovations(翻新).
Tourists and Parisians looked on horrified from the streets below. France’s Interior Ministry said firefighters might not be able to save the structure.
The fire collapsed the cathedrals' spire(尖顶) and spread to one of its landmark towers "Everything is burning; nothing will remain from the frame, "Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told French media. The 12th-century cathedral is home to incalculable(不可计算的) works of art and is one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions, due to Victor Hugo’s novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
The cause of the fire was not known, but French media quoted the Paris fire brigade(消防队) as saying the fire is “potentially linked" to a 6 million—euro($6. 88 million)renovation project on the church’s spire and its 250 tons of lead. ①An increasing number of young people tend to rent clothes recently.Clothing rental is a hot new industry and retailers are entering this in hopes of attracting newly conscientious shoppers. This past summer alone, Urban Outfitters, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, American Eagle, and Banana Republic have all announced rental services – a sure sign of changing times.
②But is renting fashion actually more environmentally-friendly than buying it, and if so, how much more? Journalist and author Elizabeth Cline explored into this question and she concluded that it's not as sustainable as it seems.
③Take shipping, for example, which has to go two ways if an item is rented – receiving and returning. Cline writes that consumer transportation has the second largest carbon footprint(碳足迹) of our collective fashion habit after manufacturing.
④She writes, "An item ordered online and then returned can emit(排放) 20 kilograms of carbon each way, and up to 50 kilograms for rush shipping. By comparison, the carbon impact of a pair of jeans purchased in physical stores and washed and worn at home is 33.4 kilograms, according to a 2015 study by Levi’s."
⑤Then there's the burden of washing, which has to happen for every item when returned, regardless of whether or not it was worn. For most rental services, this usually means dry-cleaning, a high-impact and polluting process. 70 percent of US dry cleaners used perchloroethylene, a carcinogenic ( 致 癌 的 ) air pollutant, which can produce harmful waste and air pollution .
⑥Le Tote is the only service that uses 'wet cleaning' for 80 percent of its items and strives to avoid dry cleaning unless absolutely necessary.
⑦Lastly, Cline fears that rental services will increase our appetite for fast fashion, simply because it's so easily accessible. There's something called 'share-washing' that makes people engage in more wasteful behaviors precisely because a product or service is shared and thus is perceived as more eco-friendly.
⑧Renting clothes is still preferable to buying them cheap and pitching them in the trash after a few wears,
but we shouldn't let the availability of these services make us complacent( 自鸣得意的). There's an even better step – and that's wearing what is already in the closet.
28. Why does the author mention Urban Outfitters, Macy's?
A. to prove clothing renting is becoming popular.
B. to tell us they have joined rental services
C. to introduce the topic of the passage
D. to show us they are companies of big brands
29. How does the author develop paragraph 4?
A. By analyzing data B. by using example
C. by providing description D. by making comparision
30. What can we infer from the passage?
A. it’s a better way to buy clothes cheap and pitch them in the trash than renting clothes
B. Share-washing is perceived as eco-friendly and won’t lead to wasteful behaviors.
C. Renting fashion is not as environmentally-friendly as we expect.
D. Consumer transportation has the largest footprint of our collective fashion habit
31. What’s the structure of the passage?
A.①②—③④—⑤⑥—⑦—⑧ B.①②—③④—⑤—⑥⑦—⑧
C.①—②—③④—⑤—⑥—⑦⑧ D.①—②—③④—⑤⑥—⑦⑧ 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)

Tips for Writing a Great Speech
How to write a strong speech? There are a lot of different ways to answer that question. 36
◆ Read your speech out loud
Unlike almost all other forms of writing, speech-writing is designed for listeners. So, when reviewing your text, read it to yourself and pay attention to how the words sound and feel. 37 If your phrases make you stumble(结巴), they are guaranteed to make your boss stumble as well. Just remember that good writing is not necessarily good speech-writing。
◆ Simple phrases are your friends
Keep your sentences short and sweet. Compound phrases with multiple clauses may look great on paper, but are likely to confuse your audience and decrease the effectiveness of your speech. Limit yourself to one or two ideas per sentence. 38
◆ Do your research
Before beginning a speech, make sure to familiarize yourself with the subject. 39 The creative aspects of speech-writing are only effective when backed by a strong foundation of knowledge by the speaker. The audience must trust your words in order for their meaning to sink in. If you're well-prepared, it will show.
◆ 40
Your listeners should be a strong determining factor of the content, tone and style of your speech. Before drafting remarks, think about who you're speaking to, the place you're speaking at and the timing of your speech. There’s a time and a place for every type of remarks. It's your job to figure out when and where you are
A. Know your audience.
B. Show respect to your listeners.
C. Express them as clearly and powerfully as possible.
D. Thus, you can write about it with confidence and authority(权威).
E. Do they slip off the tongue or are they clumsy and awkward?
F. Different writers are most likely to adopt diverse approaches to speech-writing.
G. Here are rules that all writers should follow in order to write a winning speech.

Last Sunday, I watched the amazed FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup on TV. I jumped with joy as the Chinese team win the championship with eleven straight victory. The success is a timely but inspiring birthday gift to our country. Besides, it makes I understand the spirit of the Chinese women’s volleyball team-- never give up, particular in difficult situations. This spirit dates back to early 1980s. At this time, young Lang Ping attracted the entire nation’s attention with her excellent performances on the court. Ever since then, almost four decades has been witnessed the rise and fall of the Chinese team. However, the spirit has inspired one generation to another, both within the team and across the country.

Dear editor,
I’m Li Hua, a student from Fuxin Internatinal School. In order to deal with waste scientifically and effectively, our city has started to promote garbage classification this year.
I approve of the new idea completely because it can not only reduce the harm done to the environment but also save resources through recycling. As a responsible citizen, I'll try to learn basic knowledge about how to sort garbage and apply what I learn to practice. Meanwhile, I'll tell people around me about the importance and necessity of the program, which will inspire them to classify garbage voluntarily.
Let's get involved in this program. I believe that through joint efforts the Earth will become a cleaner and more comfortable place to live in.
Yours,
Li Hua

I spent most of my childhood in a town near San Diego, where it seldom rains, and it’s always sunny and bright. I could ride my bike just about any day of the year, and had lots of friends. Why don’t we form a bicycle club? I immediately fell in love with the idea. We got two other guys together and came up with the best name for a club ever. We were the “Golden Skulls”. The four of us each picked out a picture of a skull to put on our bikes. I chose a green one, while George picked red. He shouted, "I am the red skull! I am the king of the club! George was a pretty big guy, so no
one argued with him. We rode our bikes everywhere and had a great time on those hot and dry days. Unfortunately, I moved into the city that winter. How I missed all of them and our life!
