Instead, visitors wander in awe, admiring the rain and the artists who created it.
The Rain Room was created to highlight the connection between humans, nature and
technology. With a tracking system that senses movement and stops the rain wherever visitors move,
it does just that.⑤ Light and sound produce an experience that feels both natural and foreign. The

the Rain Room for yourself!

When people find out that I am a journalist, they often ask me: What do you think about the
future of newspapers?
I tell them that I think the future of communications is moving online. People expect me to be
fearful for the future of print. After all, in some people’s minds I wouldn’t be able to build a career
in journalism if it all moves online. However, strangely enough, I’m actually comforted by the fact
that online journalism is becoming usual. I am a blogger who has always been able to find a home
for my writing online.
Since I began writing blogs, I have become aware of how many people you can reach with
online writing. Compare this to the newspaper’s circulation base(发行基地), and you will have a
strong reason for online journalism(新闻业).
In her successful blog post titled The Job I Have Spent the Last Year Learning is not the one I
will have, author Jenny Surane states, “Print is an expensive product to love. And general managers,
publishers and editors must now figure out a profitable way to get their news into readers’ heads.”
She goes on to state that people don’t feel like picking up a newspaper now and would rather
scroll(滚屏) through their Twitter feed, and get news from many different sources.
If print is dying, then a new form of communicating information is being born. The need for
information has not died. If anything, it has increased. What has died, rather, is the way in which
information is presented.
Now more than ever, in this age of information, there is a desire for stories on the same topic
from different points of view. The printing industry can keep pace with the need of providing a
variety of sources, if it chooses to.
Is the future of print grim? Maybe. But is the future of journalism of communicating
information to people, grim as well? Definitely not.
58. According to Paragraph 2, the author feels .
A. tired of being a newspaper journalist B. worried about the future of print
C. confident about the future of his career D. embarrassed about online writing
59. What information is conveyed in Jenny’s blog post?
A. Twitter is not very popular. B. People have more options to get information.[
C. Print still has its own advantages. D. It is hard to manage online journalism.来源:Z
60. What does the underlined word “grim” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A. Promising B. Encouraging [网]C. Unforgiving D. worrying

Plastic sludge(污泥) and garbage is a disaster for the world’s oceans. A film crew traveled the
globe to document the rubbish. And Julie Andersen of the Plastic Oceans Foundation says what we
see is just the tip of the problem. “Half of the waste actually sinks to the bottom, and that that
remains on the surface actually breaks down.”
The filmmakers found rubbish in ocean gyres, the circulating currents (环流) that trap large
concentrations of pollution in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, home of what some have
called a plastic island. “What we found in the center of the Pacific was not a floating island of plastic.
What we found was plastic smog that spread throughout all the water. And in some parts of the
oceans, scientists have found more plastic than plant.”
The pieces of the plastic garbage affect the food chain, sometimes visibly(看得见地), and
more so at the microscopic(用显微镜可见的)level, where the plastic particles(塑料粒子)
interact with other pollutants(污染物). “There are heavy metals, medicines, industrial waste in
the sea, while they act like magnets(磁铁). These poisonous materials absorb on the plastic, and then
when seafood absorbs the plastics, those poisonous substances enter the fatty tissues.” To be
consumed by other sea life and by people at last.
China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are the worst plastic polluters. The
United States, although a leader in recycling, is one of the world’s 20 since it produces and
consumes so much plastic. There are efforts around the world to address the problem, including at
this newly opened recycling center in Lebanon( 黎 巴 嫩 ). But Andersen says there is more that
people can do. “Cut back on single-use plastics, straws, plastic cups, plastic water bottles, plastic
bags and find some reusable materials.” She says healthy oceans are essential to our survival.
61. What can we learn from the passage?
A. There’s an island full of plastic rubbish in the Pacific.
B. The plastic pollution to oceans is more serious than what we can see.
C. The United States is the least plastic polluters.
D. The bad effect of plastic pollution can’t be seen by eyes.
62. What does the underlined word “they” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A. Pollutants like heavy metals and medicines. B. Fatty tissues.
C. Seafood. D. The plastic particles.
63. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Andersen is not satisfied with what has been done to solve the plastic problem.
B. The plastic problem hasn’t attracted the world’s attention.
C. All Asian countries have the most serious problem of plastic pollution.
D. People should stop using plastic products immediately.
64. Which may be the title of the passage?
A. Plastic Pollution in the World B. Plastic Pollution and Our Health
C. Ways to Solve the Problem of Plastic Pollution to Oceans
D. Plastic Pollution—Oceans’ Disaster

“What defines you?” That’s what Lizzie Velasquez asked the crowds of people who came to
hear her motivational speeches.
Due to a rare syndrome(综合症), from the moment when Velasquez was born very ugly, the doctors
prepared her parents to accept absolutely nothing out of her, no crying, no walking, no crawling and
literally nothing. But her parents decided to take her home, love her and raise her the best as they
could. They brought her up completely normally, so normally that when she started kindergarten she
didn’t know that she was different.
Unfortunately she had to find it out in a way like a big slap of reality for a 5-year-old. No one
wanted to play with her or stand by her. No one wanted to have a single thing to do with her. As a
little girl, she couldn’t understand, because she was raised still normally. So she had to go home and
ask her parents. And they encouraged her to go back to school and be herself so eventually everyone
would see she was just like them. So again, at such a young age, she was forced to a situation where
she could either choose to be happy or choose to give up. Luckily, she chose to be happy.
When she was in high school, one day she was shocked to click on one video of herself labeled (做
标签) “the World’s Ugliest Woman”, which was only 8 seconds long but had over 4 million views.
The comments that went along were horrible. “Why would her parents keep her?!” read one; “Kill it
with fire!” said another. And they continued on and on. She wanted to fight back at some of the
commentators(评论者), like one specifically who told her to put a gun to her head and kill herself.
So again, she was put in the position to choose happiness or to choose to give up.
And again with the help of family, Velasquez found the strength to transform the hatred into
motivation and to rise above the cruelty. At that moment, she was going to let her goals, her success
and her accomplishments be the things that define her, not her outer appearance, not the doctors who
said she would accomplish nothing or those people who called her a monster.
She decided to be a motivational speaker and 2013 was the eighth year of her motivational speaking.
She decided to write a book. During her first year in college, she published her first book
Lizzieisbeautiful in English and Spanish and then the second one Bebeautiful, beyou and then the
third. She decided to graduate from college and she got her degree from Texas State University in
May, 2013. One of the biggest motivations for her to accomplish all those things was that Youtube
video. She will go back to that video and look at every hateful and cruel comment and it will inspire
her to keep going and work even harder.
Lizzie Velasquez once made the headlines as the world’s ugliest woman, but she finallyshrugged off
the hurtful comments about her looks as just words. Now, she is not letting anything or anyone hold
her back and is using her devotion to religion to help diminish the hatred that comes her way by
overriding it with an inspirational message of love and acceptance. She has resolved to take charge
of her life by killing the negativity with ambition and is consistently redefining what it means to be
beautiful on her own terms. And she wins!
65.Reactions towards Velasquez’s appearance are as follows EXCEPT .
A. the doctors advised accepting nothing out of her
B. netizens intentionally pushed her to kill herself
C. her classmates refused to keep her company
D. her parents decided to bring her up as normal
66.According to Velasquez, what is the best response to those who commented bitterly online?
A. Fighting right back B. Making achievements.
C. Turning to her family. D. Deleting the comments
67. The underlined sentence in the last paragraph probably means .
A. she didn’t care about those hurtful comments eventually
B. she painfully managed to focus on her achievements
C. she could be easily set off by those hurtful comments
D. she felt sad whenever looking back on the hurtful words
68. Which of the following can best describe Velasquez?
A. Diligent and outspoken. B. Flexible and sympathetic.
C. Optimistic and determined. D. Brave and considerate.
69.The sentence ‘‘At that point she was deciding how she was going to revenge(报复)
and finally she decided to fight back in a different way.’’ can be put at the end of Paragraph_.
A.3 B. 5 C. 4 D.6
70. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Appearance: something to define you B. Speech: a way to make you stronger
C. Achievement: something to support you D. Velasquez: a brave and beautiful heart
第Ⅱ卷(共 35 分)
第四部分:任务型阅读(共 10 小题,每小题 1 分,满分 10 分)
注意:每空 1 个单词。
Sometimes we can get so caught up in the stress and worry of our personal lives that our
minds become too confused to operate effectively. This is especially dangerous in a test-taking
situation. After hours of reading and studying, our brains can lock up in a state of overload.
In a stressful situation it's often a must to clear your mind completely to allow your brain to refresh
itself and recover all of its functions. But when you're tense, clearing your mind isn't so easy! Try
this relaxation technique (技巧)if you think your brain has seized up from information overload.
1. Set aside at least five minutes for quiet "clearing" time. If you're at school, see if you can put your
head down somewhere or find an empty room or quiet space. If necessary, set a watch (or phone)
alarm or ask a friend to tap you on the shoulder at a given time.
2. Think of a time or place that puts you into a complete state of peace. This place will vary from
person to person. Have you ever sat on the beach watching the waves come in and realized you've
"zoned out" for a while? This is the sort of experience you're looking for. Other experiences that
make us zone out could be: Sitting in the dark and staring at Christmas tree lights—remember how
peaceful that feels?
3. Cover your eyes and go to your "place". If you are at school preparing for a test before class, you
may simply rest your elbows on the desk and put your hands over your eyes. For some people, it
may not be a good idea to put your head down. (You might fall asleep!)
Don't let any thoughts disturb your mind. As soon as you start to think about a test problem, clear
away the thought and concentrate on your peaceful place.
4. Keep awake! Remember, this is not nap time. The point here is to refresh your brain. After five or
ten minutes of clearing time, take a short walk or take a drink of water to re-energize your mind and
body. Stay relaxed and resist the urge to think about the things that are stressing you out. Don't let
your brain go back to freeze-out.
Now go on with your test or study session refreshed and ready!

One possible version:
The idea of sustainable development has been accepted by the world. How to keep sustainable
development is a big problem facing our planet.
The present situation is worrying. To begin with, natural resources are becoming scarcer. In
addition, as some people are not aware of the importance of the environmental protection, the
problems with it remain extremely serious to some degree.
To our great joy, many countries have taken some effective measures to solve the problem.
More and more relevant laws and regulations have been made to punish those who pollute the
environment. Besides, many governments have put large amounts of money to improve the
environment. What’s more, popularized education about environmental protection as well as
international cooperation is being carried out throughout the world.
As for myself, I should take the responsibility to devote myself to sustainable development
because we have only one home.
