Collections were the inspiration (灵感) for a project at Thomas Tallis School, which formed part of the Imagine Children's Literature Festival last autumn. Each child (aged 12-13) beatified a box and wrote a story on the subject of collections to throw inside it. The boxes were spread within the
Royal Festival Hall's Ballroom. Some were left empty to encourage visitors to write their own stories.
The subject chosen by Lauren was an imaginative one. "It's a sort of Cinderella (灰姑娘) story," she told me, inspired by a collection of letters from her cousin, ha the story these become love letters, burned by a creel stepmother. Lauren's best friend Charlotte is the stepmother. "I'm in Charlotte's story too," says Lauren, "and I get run over." Charlotte's tale was inspired by the girls' coin collection."We've collected foreign coins for years-since our families went on holiday to Tenerife." she explains."That was before the Euro, so we put pesetas in." Lauren continues: "I find a coin in the road, go to get it and get run over. I'm in hospital and then I die." Charlotte adds: "Or she might not die. I haven't decided yet."
Millie Murray, who is a tea-novel author, thinks that setting the subject of collections was a useful inspiration to their creativity rather than a restriction (限制). "In the beginning I thought, ' will the children be able to do it?'" she says. "But it's been fruitful. Some have their own collection, some have parents who do, and some have written complete stories. It's made them think about something they wouldn't have otherwise, winch can only be a good thing."

EAT YOUR VEGETABLES. Wash your hands. Always say "please" and "thank you". We are full of advice for our children, but when it comes to money, we often have little to say. As a result, our children may grow up with clean hands and good manners, but without any idea how to manage their money.
Here are some basics that will help guide them their entire lives: Show them the future. If your 13-year-old girl were to save $1.000, invest (投资) it at 8% and add $100 every month, by the time she's 65, she would have $980,983!
Be careful of credit (信用). Credit cards can help you buy necessary things and build a credit history, but they must be used responsibly, which means paying off your debt in time. Explain to your children that when you buy something using a credit card, you can easily end up paying two or three times what you would have paid if you used cash.
Teach patience. Suppose your child wants a new bicycle that costs $150.Rather than paying the cash, give him some regular pocket money and explain that by putting aside,say,$15 each week, he will be able to buy it for himself in only ten weeks.
Provide incentive. Tell your children the importance of saving. "For every dollar he or she
agrees to save and invest rather than spend, you agree to add another dollar to the pot," says Cathy Pareto, expert in money planning.
Explain your values. Values and money are deeply intertwined(缠绕在一起) , says Eileen Gallo, co-author of The Financially Intelligent Parent. When your child demands that you buy something, explain why you really don't want to buy it. "You might say, 'I'd rather save that money for your education,'" advises Gallo. Every time you spend or don't spend money, you have a chance to share your values.
24. The writer gives some basics to help _____ in a proper way.

C. children manage their money
D. parents save their money

48.
Scientists working in Central America have discovered ruins of one of the largest and most important palaces built by the ancient Mayan people. It was built about 1300 years ago. They say jungle plants have covered the ruins for hundreds of years.
49.
Arthur Demarest of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee discovered the huge palace this past summer at Cancuen in Guatemala. This palace has 170 rooms built around eleven open areas. The scientists say the area looks like a huge hill covered by jungle. Mr. Demarest found the structure when he fill into one of its open areas as he was walking along the ruin’s highest level. He then recognized that the hill was the top of the mountain.
50.
Mr. Demarest was leading a team of scientists in the area with Tomas Barrientos of the Universidad del Valle in Guatemala. Scientists say the ruins should increase understanding of the political life of the Mayan people. They were at the height of the power in Central America and Mexico more than 1000 years ago. Writings on the newly found palace walls say King Tah ak Chaan built it. He ruled Cancuen for about 50 years beginning in the year 740.
51.
Scientists say they may have to reconsider some of their ideas about the Mayan people. They say Cancuen seems different from other Mayan cities. Scientists had believe that power of among the Mayan was based on warfare and religion. But the scientists didn’t find evidence of religious centers or wars in Cancuen. The city’s rulers did not take part in major wars with nearby groups. There were no large pyramid shaped buildings or parts of temples that would shoe the religious power of the rulers. The evidence suggests that the city’s power was based on its importance as a trading center. And evidence suggests is formed alliances with other powerful cities in the area.
52.
The researchers say the ruins showed the people in the city were rich. Many were skilled in producing goods fir trade. The scientists say it will take them ten years to dig the palace from under the jungle plants and partly repair it. They are planning to start the work by sending a large group of researchers to the area in February.
