Over just a few days in January, millions of people across China
were racking their brains (绞尽脑汁). They were taking part in
live-streaming quiz shows on several apps. Some of these apps
include Chongdingdahui, Huajiao Zhibo and Xigua Shipin.
Different from TV quiz shows like Happy Dictionary and Who’s Still Standing, anyone
with a smartphone or tablet can participate (参加) in the live-streaming shows every day,
interacting (互动) with other players at the same time.
The shows have hosts to present the questions. While the participants give their answers,
they help to liven up the show by telling jokes or giving some background for the question.
Each online player has ten seconds to answer a question, with each show taking around 20
to 30 minutes.
Prizes ranging (在……范围内变动) between 100,000 yuan to 5 million yuan are being
offered, with the winners sharing the prize money at the end. Depending on the total amount
of prize money and the number of winners, players can win prizes as small as 1 yuan and
as high as over 40,000 yuan.
The questions are chosen from a wide range of topics, including literature (文学),
geography, mathematics and biology, among many others. For example, players may be asked
how many legs crabs have, or what Australia’s national flower is.
To draw new users, the apps offer “redo cards” to new players, as well as to those

who have invited new players to join. These cards allow players who give wrong answers an
extra chance to compete on the show.

What time of day do you feel most alert (清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person?
Or does your brain need a few hours to get going? A lot of research suggests that we should
pay attention to our body clock. It can tell us what time of day we are best able to perform,
according to the Wall Street Journal.
When it comes to the human brain, many people work best later in the morning. This
is because the body’s temperature takes time to rise through the day. Taking a warm shower
when you wake up can help speed this up.
But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will rise early and work better
early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better toward
the end of the day.
Research shows that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day.
Physical performance is at its best between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., so it’s better to exercise
6
later in the day.
Between noon and 4 p.m., people begin to get distracted (思想不集中的). This is partly
because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Research also shows that we
become sleepy around 2 p.m..
Finally, it is best to eat during our active periods. This allows our body to burn
calories better and stops our blood sugar levels from getting too high.
29. Evening people had better ▲ .
A. rise late and work in the morning
B. rise early and work in the morning
C. wake later and work after midnight
D. wake later and work better in the evening
30. According to the research, which of the following is TRUE?
A. Our body burns calories better at night.
B. We’d better do exercise in the afternoon.
C. We perform better after eating a big meal.
D. Sleeping at 2 p.m. is not good for our health.
31. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A. Research about time B. Research about body clock
C. Research about brain D. Research about blood sugar

Wolf Warrior 2, a popular movie that was welcomed by many Chinese last summer, tells
the story of how the Chinese government successfully rescues (救援) overseas Chinese
citizens in Africa.
At the end of the film, there is one line that stands out: “Citizens of the People’s
Republic of China, when you face danger in a foreign land, do not give up! Please remember,
at your back stands a strong motherland.”
The movie sends the message that overseas Chinese will always receive timely help from
China. However, it’s reported that some headstrong citizens will not get this help for
free in the future.
On March 26, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) worked out a draft (草案) for
7
regulations (条例) on how to protect and help overseas Chinese citizens. The draft says
that those who insist on traveling to dangerous places without considering warnings given
by the MFA will not be able to take advantage of free rescue services.
For example, the MFA recently gave out a travel warning saying that Chinese citizens
should avoid traveling to Maldives. Chinese who travel there and run into trouble may still
ask for aid from the Chinese Embassy (大使馆). But they will have to cover the cost of their
rescue later.
In fact, this is a common international practice. Countries like the U.S., the U.K.
and Canada have similar regulations.
According to the MFA, over 130 million Chinese mainlanders traveled overseas last year.
The MFA gave out more than 1,000 travel warnings to advise Chinese citizens of the risks
they may face when traveling.
32. What does the writer quote (引用) a line from Wolf Warrior 2 for?
A. To explain what the movie is really about.
B. To prove how strong our country China is.
C. To describe the feelings after watching the movie.
D. To emphasize (强调) that China will help every Chinese person.
33. According to the passage, what are “headstrong citizens” probably like?
A. They always do something freely.
B. They always do something bravely.
C. They always do something properly.
D. They always do something carelessly.
34. The draft suggests that ▲ .
A. free rescue services have come to an end
B. Chinese people can’t travel to foreign countries
C. Chinese who travel to Maldives will run into trouble
D. people won’t get free help unless they follow the MFA’s warnings
35. If the regulations are put into practice, we can infer (推断) that ▲ .
A. China will be the first country in the world to do so
B. poor people will be unable to afford to travel overseas
8
C. people may think twice about traveling to dangerous places

Lots of kids like to play computer and mobile games these days. Is this good or bad
for us? How do we deal with this issue?
In my opinion, playing games responsibly (负责任地) can help us relax. As the old saying
goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” For example, when I finish five days
of studying, I feel tired. That’s when I like to play a game called King of Glory with
my classmates. We all have lots of fun playing and talking about it. When we win, we feel
happy. And when we lose, we still want to play more. I think that’s why so many students
in our school like to play this game. It can not only help us relax, but also strengthen
(加深) our friendship.
In addition, playing games can exercise our brains and help us think more quickly. When
we start to play a new game, we’re not very good at it. But we can get better through practice.
This process exercises our brains and makes them more active. However, you should make sure
that you have finished all of your homework before you play games.
Still, some students seem like they are addicted (上瘾的) to games. They can’t control
themselves and will play games for five hours a day. That is not good. It’s bad for not
only their eyes, but also their health. They will feel tired in class the next day, which
will affect (影响) their studies. That’s not very responsible.
Therefore, I can only say that we should try to be self-disciplined (自律的) and
responsible when working out how much time we should spend playing video games.

Social media has been popular these years. With it, animals become famous more easily
than ever before. Many people post their pets’ photos online and quickly get thousands
of followers. If pets can perform on video, that’s even better.
But it takes more than just a cute pet and an iPhone to create a popular pet account
(账号). If you want to try for yourself, here are some useful tips for you.
Know your brand (品牌)
When you start your account on social media, choose a few words and phrases for
your pet’s “brand”. Is your pet a troublemaker? Silly and a natural performer?
Make sure all your photos have a similar theme. That way your followers know what
to expect of your account.
For example, if your pet’s brand is “free-spirited (自由自在的) and loves
nature”, don’t post photos of it sitting in a first-class seat with an expensive
pet dish.
11
Post photos regularly (定期地) and use hashtags (标签)
Plan to post, if not every day, then at least five days a week. When you post,
add a few hashtags so people can find your account easily using the “Discover”
feature on social media. You may look at accounts similar to yours and see which
hashtags they’re using.
Have fun or don’t do it
You have to love taking photos of your pet. Or at least you like doing it enough
that you can get it done even when you don’t feel like it. But if you aren’t having
fun, it’s not worth it.
阅读以上信息,用恰当的词完成下面的短文,每空一词。
