However, there remains much work to be done. I have to get him to follow my hand signal again and again 46 he will close the door from a distance. But, I now realize, 47 you keep to the focus, the 48 will be completed.

As a music teacher for twenty-seven years, I have always known that music touches the soul. It can break
through all kinds of barriers to reach students in a very special way. It can be the means for each child to find their light.
A few years ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to teach pre-school students one afternoon a week. One of my most memorable students was Vanessa. She was five years old , had difficulty walking, and could not speak. We mostly sat on the floor for our music lessons and Vanessa liked to sit on my lap. One of her favorite songs was John the Rabbit. It was a call and response song where I sang the call and the students clapped two times while singing the repeating phrase, “Oh, yes!” Vanessa liked to put her hands together with mine and clap with me. We performed that song during every class, Vanessa and I clapping together. She never said or sang a word.
One day late in the school year, when the song was finished, Vanessa turned around, looked at me in the eye, clapped her tiny hands two times and said the words “Oh, yes!” I opened my mouth and could not speak. Through music, we had made a connection.
Several years later, I came across Vanessa on the street in town. I stopped my car and waved to say hello. She waved back with a big smile on her face and then clapped her hands two times, mimicking the song we had performed in our music class. This precious little girl, through her connection with music, left an impression on me that will last forever.
Every child has the ability to learn and grow. It is up to us educators to discover the way to reach each and every one of our students. We all must find each child’s light.

A. surprised B. happy C. frightened D. satisfied
59. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. The author has been in touch with Vanessa for several years.
B. Vanessa became as healthy as other children.
C. The song made a deep impression on Vanessa.
D. Being a good educator became Vanessa’s dream.

Anyone who buys a Northwest E-ticket through the airline's computer service by June 16 will get an award . Next time you fly, you can buy another ticket for a friend for $ 99, going anywhere in the US or Canada through Feb. 12, 2000, along with the lowest ticket prices.. American, Northwest, United, and last week, US Airways have raised the cost for lost ticket replacement to $ 70 from either $ 60 or $ 50. Astronauts aboard the space station celebrated a space first on Wednesday by drinking water that had been recycled from their urine(尿), sweat and water got from air. They said "cheers," clicked drinking bags and toasted NASA workers on the ground.
The urine recycling system is needed for astronaut stations on the moon and Mars. It also will save NASA money because it won’t have to ship up as much water to the station by space shuttles or cargo rockets. Besides, it’s important as the space station is about to expand from three people living on board to six.
The recycling system had been brought up to the space station last November by space shuttles Endeavour, but it couldn’t be used until samples were tested back on earth. So when it came time to actually drink up, NASA made a big deal of it. The three-man crew stood holding their drinks and congratulated engineers in two NASA centers that worked on the system.
“This is something that had been the stuff of science fiction,” American astronaut Michael Barratt said before taking a small mouthful. “The taste is worth trying.”
The new system takes the combined urine of the crew from the toilet, moves it to a big tank, where the water is boiled off, and the vapor is collected. The rest of the urine is thrown away. Then the water vapor is mixed with water from air, and then it goes through filters (过滤器). When six crew members are aboard it can make about six gallons from urine in about six hours.
“Some people may find the idea of drinking recycled urine distasteful, but it is also done on earth, but with a lot longer time between urine and the tap,” said Marybeth Edeen, the space station’s national lab manager.
The technology NASA developed for this system has already been used for quick water purification after the
2004 Asian tsunami.

The Rolls Royce logo consisting of the two Rs clearly stands for Rolls and Royce, the two founders of this car manufacturing company. In 1884 Frederick Henry Royce started an electrical and mechanical business. He made his first car, a “Royce”, in his Manchester factory in 1904. He was introduced to Charles Stewart Rolls in a Manchester hotel on May 4 that year, and the pair agreed a deal where Royce would manufacture cars, to be sold by Rolls. A clause was added to the contract, saying the cars would be called “Rolls Royce”.
The current Toyota logo consists of three ovals: the two perpendicular(成直角的)ovals represent a relationship of trust between the customer and Toyota. These ovals combine to symbolize the letter “T” for Toyota. The space in the background implies a global expansion of Toyota’s technology and unlimited potential for the future.
The Hyundai Motor Company(HMC) is a South Korean company manufacturing automobiles. Their automobiles are available in many countries around the globe. In 2003 it was South Korea’s largest car maker and the world’s seventh largest car maker. The Hyundai logo appears to be an H (symbolizing Hyundai). The oval shape indicates the company’s global expansion and the ‘H’ is symbolic of two people (especially the company and customer) shaking hands.
The Mercedes-Benz logo represents one of the most famous brands in the world. The Benz logo is a three-pointed
star that represents its domination of the land, the sea, and the air. The famous three-pointed star was designed by Gottlieb Daimler to show the ability of his motors for land, air and sea usage. It was first seen on a Daimler in 1909, and was combined with the Benz laurel wreath in 1926 to symbolize the union of the two firms. Is it ever a good idea for a teenager to have a credit card?
My kids watch closely as I swipe the card through the register. They’ve seen me do it hundreds, thousands of times. Cool. They are itching to swipe it through the machine themselves. When we walk out of the store with our groceries or pet food, or whatever, it’s almost as though money has not changed hands, painless, easy.
So it shouldn’t be shocking to discover that teenagers are becoming card carrying consumers in their own right. The question is, should they?
While some argue it’s best to teach kids how to use a credit card while still living under the family roof, not everyone agrees. Dave Ramsey, financial expert says getting a credit card for your teenager is actually, “an excellent way to teach him or her to be financially irresponsible.”
Now parents are required to co-sign on credit cards for children under 21. “If their name is on the credit card, then the parent may say, ‘Hey, my name is on this. Don’t get me into trouble, ’ ” says Mary Beth Pinto, a marketing professor. “When parents were the co-obligors(共同借贷人),the children caused less debt. If the parents are the co-obligors, the tendency is that the parents were explaining how to use the cards.” Still, Pinto believes parents should start the process much earlier. “Yes, there has to be teaching going on and it has to start when they’re younger. You’re not going to get rid of credit cards. They are here to stay. You have to have them. You can’t fight progress,” Pinto said.
Ramsey, however, disagrees. “Throwing teens into a pool of (credit) sharks is a sure way to guarantee a life-time of heartache,” he said. “You can make online purchases and rent a car with a credit card. Of course, you must have money in your bank account before you can make a purchase with a credit card. But paying for things with money is what you are supposed to do. ”
72. The author mentioned her experience in Para 2 mainly to______.
A. prove the convenience of using credit cards
B. tell what impression credit cards leave on kids
C. give advice on using credit cards wisely
D. explain the pleasure credit cards bring to customers
73. The underlined word in Para 2 can be replaced by __________.
A. eager B. afraid C. embarrassed D. thankful
74. What’s Ramsey’s attitude towards teens’ using credit cards?
A. He feels it is worth a try B. He is very supportive
C. He is strongly against it D. He considers it as a pleasant experience
75. Pinto will most likely agree that __________.
A. parents should let teens own their credit cards earlier
B. you shouldn’t be in control of credit cards
C. it is never good for anyone to get a credit card
D. learning to use credit cards is practical
[1] Learning how to sing can take a long time, even a lifetime. Some virtuosos are able to naturally strike a key or a chord, but they may not know exactly what it is they are doing.
[2] These virtuosos are a limited few and even they will have to someday think about what it is they are doing. For the rest of us in the world who simply want to sing, whether it is for family gatherings, religious ceremonies, or just while sitting around a camp fire, the ability ___________ can come with daily practice and exercises that you can do at home.
[3] Even professional singers have to practice every day to maintain their level. Singing is an exercise, and to do it well requires practice. If you want to go run a race, for example, you train beforehand. You run daily, stretch, read about running, and put yourself into a sort of running world. If you do run a race without training, you might simply run out of breath and have to walk. You might even have to stop, or worse yet, you might get injured. In the same way, you shouldn’t attempt to sing at a trained level until you have practiced, stretched, and actually sung quite a bit on your own or with a tutor or instructor. Only in this way will you sing quite well.
[4] While there are many who have natural singing voices, others, such as those who live, breathe, eat, and talk about singing all their lives, might have a natural ability, but they also know and understand the art of singing. They practice daily, listen to their own voices, do breathing exercises, and stretch their vocal range little by little. This is the key to singing–doing practical exercises.
76. What is the best title of the passage? (within 6 words)

take it easy.
24. A.
部分考生选left,显然没有正确理解其被动关系,如果将后半句转换为…only two young men were left in the bar.
look down低着头,look up抬头,look away向旁边看,look on面向,观望。
根据语境和push up(抬高)暗示,选prices(价格)符合句子含义,其他benefit(利益),interest (利息),welfare(福利),均不合句意。
If you go straight on, you’ll see a church the central station.
in favor of赞成,in celebration of以庆祝,in terms of 谈及,in need of需要。
It was at the workshop where we did research together two years ago that I got to know the professor over there.
35.D. keep back在本句中意为“扣除”,keep away使不靠近;keep off使不接近或接触;keep up使不衰,不落。
D. cold.
41. 答案 C. closed..
42. 答案 A. rewarded 固定搭配 reward…with…
43. 答案 B. convinced. Sb be/become convinced “某人相信,确信。。。”
46. 答案 D. so that 以便。。。
Learn lessons from…
51. 答案 D. action 固定短语 take action
52. 答案 A . hold on to 固定短语 意为“紧紧抓住,坚持”。
I have always known that music touches the soul. 可知。
She was five years old …… and could not speak.以及I opened my mouth and could not speak.
60. B. 参考the airline companies are doing everything they can bring forward cost-saving ticketless flight,从这句话来看,无票飞行能节约钱。
And there are rising punishments for paper lovers,但这不是航空公司所说的话,惩罚持票者也不是航空公司的目的,故不选B。
根据第二段“It’s important as the space station is about to expand from three people living on board to six”,再联系第五段的“When six crew members are aboard it can make about six gallons from urine in
根据最后一段“The technology … for quick water purification after the 2004 Asian tsunami”,可知d是发生得最早的;根据第三段的“The recycling system had been brought up to the space station last November , but it couldn’t be used until samples …”,可知c在a前面,因此D为正确答案。
第六段提到“but with a lot longer time between urine and the tap”,其中的between urine and the tap即将尿循环制成水的过程,由此可知D为正确答案。
Mercedes-Benz is one of the world’s oldest automobile manufacturers.可知。
70. A 细节题。由第一段and the pair agreed a deal where Royce would manufacture cars, to be sold by Rolls. A clause was added to the contract, saying the cars would be called “Rolls Royce”.可知。
71. C 由to show the ability of his motors for land, air and sea usage.
They’ve seen me do it hundreds, thousands of times. Cool.
Pinto believes parents should start the process much earlier. …You’re not going to get rid of credit cards. They are here to stay. You have to have them. You can’t fight progress,”可知。
(Text 1)
M: Look at those beautiful birds over there. I think you can teach them to talk.
W: But look at the price! I’d rather have a cat.
(Text 2)
M: I suppose the reason why so many tourists come here is that everything is so cheap.
W: Cheap? Nothing is really cheap here.
(Text 3)
W: Where are you going to plant the tree? By the front door?
M: No, that would be silly. It’ll grow too big. I’m going to put it at the back of the garage.
W: I thought it would be better right at the end of the garden.
M: OK.
(Text 4)
M: Can I take your coat, Madam?
W: Thank you.
M: And would you like something to drink before you order your meal?
(Text 5)
W: Where were you on Christmas, David? I called you several times and nobody was home.
M: My parents and I travelled to New Zealand to visit my uncle. It was quite an experience to spend Christmas in summer.
(Text 6)
M: Hello! Police Station.
W: Hello! This is Mrs Black.
M: Can I help you, Madam?
W: Yes. I’ve just come home from work and I find someone has broken into my house and stolen all my money and jewellery. Could you please come over immediately?
M: Sure. Where do you live?
W: My house is No. 14 on the 5th Avenue.
M: OK. Don’t worry, Madam. We’ll be there in about 10 minutes.
(Text 7)
M: Good morning, Madam. Can I help you?
W: Ah, yes. I want to go to New York and I’m not so sure of the best way to get there.
M: Well, you could get there by the long distance bus. It’s only $15.
W: Mm, that’s not bad. How long does it take me to get there?
M: It takes you about ten hours.
W: Ten hours?
M: Well, yes. But you can go at night, so you might get some sleep anyway.
W: Oh, no. I never sleep sitting up.
(Text 8)
W: May I help you?
M: Yes, I would like some tickets for next week’s ballet performances.
W: Which performance do you wish to attend? There will be three: Thursday, Friday and Sunday evenings.
M: Are there still seats for all the performances?
W: Not many, and very few together. How many tickets do you want?
M: Just two, preferably together. The date is less important.
W: I have two together in the last row for Sunday evening.
M: That would be fine. How much are they?
W: Ten dollars each. That will be 20 dollars for the two tickets.
M: Yes, here you are. Thank you.
W: You’re welcome.
(Text 9)
M: Do you mind if I join you?
W: Please do.
M: I’m Alan Hook. I work at St Jude’s Training College.
W: How do you do? My name is Barbara Samuel. And what do you do at the college?
M: I’m in charge of the science department.
W: Have you been there long?
M: Just over a year. By the way, haven’t I seen your picture in the paper recently?
W: Ah, that must have been the national tennis competition last week.
M: That’s right — you won a cup.
W: Well, I guess I was lucky. How about you? Do you play?
M: I used to, but I’m out of practice these days. I must see about joining a club sometime.
(Text 10)
Well, my society is called the Historical Society. We meet every other Thursday. I think I should point out that we are not just interested in sitting around and talking about the past. A lot of our activities are towards what can perhaps be called “living history” — by which I mean how history can help us now. And because of this, we have been very interested in finding out about the history of this town itself — and some of the famous people who used to live here. We’ve also visited several historic houses in the area. This year we’re planning on going out much more to visit various historic sites away from the college. If you’d like to join, please come and see me.
