Outdoor events will have a few more years to follow suit.” 根据第三段该词前的“coffee bars”,“coffee experiences”以及该词后的“in the coffee shop”可知,该词为“咖啡”之意。 故选A。 ‎ ‎37.E 根据前一句“For inspiration,he turned to experimental play-spaces designed by famous architects like David Rockwell and Frank Gehry.”和后一句“So,Schreibman decided to get some architects to help him create structures that were both inspiring and affordable.”,可知这里是“虽然有趣,但价格还是多数学校和小镇力所不能及的”,加之本段的时态也给了提示。故填E。‎ ‎38.C 根据前一句“Free Play playgrounds are designed in an abstract form meant to encourage children to be creative.” C项中的“With children’s imagination”与前句中的“encourage children to be creative”照应。‎ ‎39.G 前一句中“可以定做的”,后一句“Even so,Schreibman believes that schools and cities will be willing to invest in structures that their young audience will never lose interest in.” ‎ ‎40.B 根据下一句“Every one of these pieces of equipment is designed so that children can make their own decisions about how to play with them…” B项中的“four pieces of equipment”与后一句中的“these pieces of equipment”相呼应。 colleague“同事”;teacher“老师”;pupil“学生”;graduate“大学毕业生”。 文章第四段的“When the other pupils”提示,Sanggat是作者的“学生”。 sweep up“打扫,横扫”;light up“照亮,点燃”;clear up“清理,放晴”;tidy up“收拾,整理”。 故选A。 patience“耐心”;anxiety“焦虑”;caution“谨慎”;curiosity“好奇”。 attempt“企图,尝试”;chance“机会,可能性”;exam“考试”;occasion ‎ “场合,时刻”。根据句意以及后面的“so that I might go to university someday”,可知读书是为了参加重要的“考试”。 unheard from“未收到来信”;unknown for“因……不出名”;unheard of“未听说过”;unintended for“不是专供…… surprised“惊奇的”;determined“坚决的”;concerned“担心的”;convinced“确信的”。 故选A。 get over“克服”;get across“使理解”;get in“收进,收割”;get through“完成,接通”。 make the best of“充分利用”。故选A。 separately“分开地”;specially“专门地”;individually“个别地”;steadily“稳定地”。 even though“即使”,让步状语从句;as if“仿佛,好像”‎ ‎,方式状语从句;so that“为了,以便”,目的状语从句;in case“以防”,目的状语从句。 agree“同意”;schedule“计划,安排”;request“请求”;volunteer“自愿”。 adding“补充说”;gathering“收集”;stressing“强调”;bringing“带来”。‎ ‎“Sanggat would show them my books”是句子的主干,其后的each time本应该是状语从句,但没主语,那便是非谓语的考查。 故选A。 roll over“翻滚”;jump into“跳进”;fall over“跌倒”;slip into“滑 落”。 civilization“文明”;destination“目的地”;direction“方向”;location“位置”。根据“I was carried into a boat and transported back to 54 The whole school gathered by the riverside to say goodbye to me.” 故选A。 filled with“充满了”,packed with“装满了”。 county“县城”;downtown“市中心”;university“大学”;hospital“医院”。 identify“确认,鉴别”;practice“练习,实践”;experience“经历,体验”;realize“意识到”。 thus“于是”;ever“曾经”;never“决不”;even“甚至”。must never fail to take time意为“一定要花时间”。 severe“严峻的,严厉的”;positive“积极的,肯定的”;lively“生动的”;active“积极的,主动的,活跃的”。 result“结果”;effect“影响,后果”;wonder“奇迹”;advantage“好处”。 who指代前面的an amazing man,又作comes的主语。 ‎ ‎62. on a regular basis“定期地,经常地”。故填on。‎ ‎64. 故填was driven。‎ ‎65. 拿去宾语从句“what it was that kept him…” 所以填it。‎ ‎66. require sb. to do sth. 故填to push。‎ ‎69. 故填more/better。 Text 1‎ W:Yesterday I made reservations for my trip to Miami next month.‎ M:You must really be looking forward to it. You haven’t had any time off for at least two years.‎ Text 2‎ W:Is it almost time to go home now? I’m so tired. I can hardly see straight.‎ M:Just a few more minutes, then we can go.‎ Text 3‎ W:Is everything ready for the conference?‎ M:The only thing left to do is set up the microphones and speakers. They’ll be here in a few minutes.‎ Text 4‎ W:I’m not sure what I’m in a mood for,ice-cream or sandwiches? They are both really good here.‎ M:The movie starts in an hour. And we still have to get there and park. So just make a decision.‎ Text 5‎ M:After high school,I’d like to go to college and major in business administration.‎ W:I’d rather spend my college days finding out how children learn.‎ Text 6‎ M:Are you all right? You look off color.‎ W:I’m OK. I feel a bit tired. That’s all.‎ M:That is because you work too hard,I suppose.‎ W:I guess so. Do you remember the new student in my class?‎ M:The boy from Haiti?‎ W:Yes,he is having a hard time communicating since he doesn’t speak much English.‎ M:Do you have any other students from immigrant families in your class?‎ W:Oh,yes. This year we have a Korean,a Japanese, and a Chinese student. I spend a lot of time with them so that they can catch up.‎ M:I know. It’s very kind of you to help them with their studies.‎ W:But it’s really rewarding to see them make progress and fit well into the group.‎ M:That’s true.‎ Text 7‎ M:Lisa! What are you doing?‎ W:Good evening,Uncle John! I’m watching a movie.‎ M:So now you are done with exam stress.‎ W:Yes,it was a long and stressful period. I need to relax now.‎ M:Did you perform well on all your papers?‎ W:I’m satisfied with my performance although I had to leave some questions blank on both the math paper and the science paper.‎ M:Didn’t you know the answers?‎ W:I knew all the answers but due to a lack of time,I was unable to write the answers.‎ M:This happens to most students. What marks do you expect?‎ W:I expect above 80 marks because I wrote good answers.‎ M:What will you do on your vacation?‎ W:I will improve my communication skills in English, because without English, there is no future. It’s hard to get a good job.‎ M:That’s a good idea. I’m sure you’ll get a good result. Well, the bell is ringing. Your dad is probably here to pick you up.‎ Text 8‎ W:Can I help you, sir?‎ M:Yes,how much is that sofa—the black one?‎ W:That sofa is $250. It’s the best bargain here.‎ M:What about the two brown armchairs?‎ W:They are also a good bargain. Only $120 each.‎ M:$120 each? But that seems ridiculous! $240 for two armchairs and $250 for a sofa that can seat five people!‎ W:I have to say it’s not a question of how many people can sit on the furniture but how much time, labor and materials go into making it.‎ M:I know all that. But your price is much too high. What’s your best price on the sofa only?‎ W:I can’t offer you any reduction on the sofa. But if you buy the two armchairs as well,I’ll reduce the overall price to $460.‎ M:Only $30 off. That’s impossible. I’ll give you $350 for all three pieces.‎ W:That is out of the question, sir. My last offer is $450.‎ M:Well,I’ll take them.‎ Text 9‎ M:Hello. Matt Ellis speaking.‎ W:Hello,Dr. Ellis,my name’s Pan Johnson. My roommate,Janet Holmes, wanted me to call you.‎ M:Janet Holmes? Oh,that’s right. She’s in my Shakespearean English class. Has anything happened to her?‎ W:No,it’s just that she submitted a job application yesterday and the company asked her in for an interview today. I’m calling to see whether it would be OK if I gave you her essay. Janet said it’s due today.‎ M:Certainly, that would be fine. Uh,you can either drop it off at my class or bring it to my office.‎ W:Would it be all right to come by your office around 4:00? I’m afraid I can’t come any earlier because I have three classes this afternoon.‎ M:Uh,I won’t be here when you come. I’m supposed to be at a meeting from 3:00 to 6:00,but how about leaving it with my secretary? She usually stays until 5:00.‎ W:Fine, please tell her I’ll be there at 4:00. And Dr. Ellis, one more thing, could you tell me where your office is? Janet told me where your class is,but she didn’t give me the directions to your office.‎ M:Well,I’m in Room 302 of the Gregory Building. I’ll tell my secretary to put the paper in my mail box,and I’ll get it when I return.‎ W:I sure appreciate it. Goodbye,Dr. Ellis.‎ M:Goodbye,Ms. Johnson.‎ Text 10‎ Betty Green was a very spoiled, only child. She was born in Massachusetts USA in 1835. Her father was a millionaire businessman. Her mother was often ill,and so from the age of two her father took her with him to work and taught her about stocks and shares. At the age of six she started reading the daily financial newspapers and opened her own bank account. Her father died when she was 21,and she inherited 7.5 million dollars. She went to New York and invested on Wall Street. Betty saved every penny, eating in the cheapest restaurants for 15 cents. She became one of the richest and most hated women in the world. At 33 she married Edward Green,a multi-millionaire,and had two children,Ned and Sylvia.‎ Betty’s meanness was well-known. She always argued about prices in shops. She walked to the local grocery store to buy broken biscuits which were much cheaper, and to get a free bone for her much loved dog. Once she lost a two-cent stamp and spent the night looking for it. She never bought clothes and always wore the same long, ragged black skirt. Worst of all, when her son,Ned,fell and injured his knee, she refused to pay for a doctor and spent hours looking for free medical help. In the end Ned lost his leg. When she died in 1916 she left her children 100 million dollars. Her daughter built a hospital with her money.‎
