第三部分 阅读理解 (共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给旳四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑.
A
I heard many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling. I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching (紧握) at one another’s hands for reassurance.
They claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up huddled (聚在一起) round listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (蚕茧) into a larger cocoon.
It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path.
But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come — with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really counts.
56. In this passage, the author wants to tell _______.

A. growing away from their parents B. following the popularity trend
C. walking a new way on their own D. turning to their friends for help
58. The phrase “ larger cocoon” at the end of the second paragraph refers to _______.
A. the distractive and variable society B. the dazzling music world
C. the parental care and love D. the popularity wave in the society
59. What does the author think of advertisements?
A. Convincing. B. Instructive. C. Influential. D. Authoritative.
60. According to the author, what might happen when a teenager stands up against the popularity wave and follows his/her own path?
A. He/She falls behind the time. B. He/She loses good friends.
C. He/She faces all kinds of criticism. D. He/She gains valuable popularity.

“Dr Papaderos, what is the meaning of life?”
The usual laughter followed, and people stirred(骚动)to go. Papaderos held up his hand and stilled the room and looked at me for a long time, asking with his eyes if I was serious and seeing from my eyes that I was.
“I will answer your question.”
Taking his wallet out of his hip pocket, he fished into a leather billfold and brought out a very small round mirror, about the size of a quarter. And what he said went like this:
“When I was a small child, during the war, we were very poor and we lived in a remote village. One day, on the road, I found the broken pieces of a mirror. A German motorcycle had been wrecked in that place.
I tried to find all the pieces and put them together, but it was not possible, so I kept only the largest piece. This one and by scratching it on a stone, I made it round. I began to play with it as a toy and became fascinated by the fact that I could reflect light into dark places where the sun would never shine in deep holes and crevices(裂缝)and dark closets. It became a game for me to get light into the most inaccessible places I could find.
I kept the little mirror and as I went about my growing up, I would take it out in idle moments and continue the challenge of the game. As I became a man, I grew to understand that this was not just a child’s game but a metaphor for what I might do with my life. I came to understand that I am not the light or the source of light. But light truth, understanding, knowledge is there, and it will shine in many dark places only if I reflect it.
I am a fragment(碎片)of a mirror whose whole design and shape l do not know. Nevertheless, with what I have I can reflect light into the dark places of this world into the black places in the hearts of men and change some things in some people. Perhaps others may see and do likewise. This is what I am about. This is the meaning of my life.”
61. On hearing the author’s question, Dr. Papedotes at first.
A. laughed at his foolishness B. doubted his seriousness
C. wasn’t sure of the answer D. wasn’t interested at all
62. How did Dr Papaderos get the small round mirror when he was a child?
A. He found it on the road and made it round.
B. A dying German soldier gave him as a present.
C. He chanced to find it in the street while playing.
D. He put the broken pieces together and made it.
63. Why did Dr Papaderos like the small round mirror so much as a child?
A. Because it could shine the places where the sun couldn’t reach.
B. Because he was too poor to afford other toys.
C. Because he believed it would bring good luck to him.
D. Because it told him a lot about what life really meant to him.
64. The underlined “metaphor” in the 7th paragraph most probably means .
A. purpose B. source C. light D. symbol
65. Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
A. The Meaning of Life B. A Broken Piece of Mirror
C. Dr Papaderos’ Experience D. A Special Game in the Childhood

“Our aim is to take our art to the world and make people understand what it is to move,” said David Belle, the founder of parkour(跑酷).
Do you love running? It is a good exercise, yet many people find it boring. But what if making your morning jog a creative one? Like jumping from walls and over gaps, and ground rolls? Just like the
James Bond in the movie Casino Royale? Bond jumps down from a roof to a windowsill and then runs several blocks over obstacles on the way. It is just because of Bond’s wonderful performances that the sport has become popular worldwide.
Yes, that’s parkour, an extreme street sport aimed at moving from one point to another as quickly as possible, getting over all the obstacles in the path using only the abilities of the human body. Parkour is considered an extreme sport. As its participants dash around a city, they may jump over fences, run up walls and even move from rooftop to rooftop.
Parkour can be just as exciting and charming as it sounds, but its participants see parkour much more than that.
Overcome all the obstacles on the course and in life it is part of the philosophy(理念) behind parkour. This is the same as life. You must determine your destination, go straight, jump over all the barriers as if in parkour and never fall back from them in your life to reach the destination successfully. A parkour lover said, “I love parkour because its philosophy has become my life, my way to do everything.”
Another philosophy we’ve learnt from parkour is freedom. It can be done by anyone, at any time, anywhere in the world. It is a kind of expression of trust in yourself that you earn energy and confidence.
66. Parkour has become popular throughout the world because of .
A. its founder, David Belle B. the film, Casino Royale
C. its risks and tricks D. the varieties of participants
67. The underlined word “obstacles” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to “ ”.
A. streets B. objects C. barriers D. roofs
68. Which of the following is true of parkour?
A. It challenges human abilities. B. It is a good but boring sport.
C. It needs special training. D. It is a team sport.
69. As its participants move around a city, .
A. they can ask for help B. they may choose to escape
C. they should run to extremes D. they must learn to survive
70. Which of the following is the philosophy of parkour?
A. Sports and extremes. B. Excitement and freedom.
C. Dreams and success. D. Determination and freedom.
D
A person named Bernard Jackson today is a free man, but he has many bitter memories. He spent five years in prison after a jury (陪审团) wrongly convicted (判处……有罪) him of raping two women. At Jackson’s trial, although two witnesses testified that Jackson was with them in another location at the time of the crime, he was convicted anyway. Why? The jury believed the testimony (证词) of the two victims, who positively identified Jackson as the man who had attacked them. The court eventually freed Jackson after the police found the real criminal.
Many factors influence the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. For instance, witnesses sometimes see photographs of several suspects before they try to identify the person they saw in a group of people. They can become confused by seeing many photographs of similar faces. The number of people in the group, and whether it is a person or a photograph, may also affect a witness’s decision. People sometimes have difficulty identifying people of other races. The questions the police ask witnesses also have an effect on them.
Many people believe that police officers are more reliable than ordinary people. Psychologists decided to test this idea, and they discovered that it is not true. Two psychologists showed a film of crimes to both police officers and civilians. The psychologists found no difference between the police and the civilians in correctly remembering the details of the crimes.
Despite all the possibilities for inaccuracy, courts cannot omit eyewitness testimony from a trial. American courts depend almost completely on eyewitness testimony to resolve (决定) court cases. Sometimes it is the only evidence to a crime, such as rape. Furthermore, eyewitness testimony is often correct. Although people do sometimes make mistakes, and convict innocent people, more importantly, eyewitness testimony has rightly convicted a larger number of guilty people.
American courts depend on the ability of the twelve jurors, and not the judges, to determine the accuracy of the witness’s testimony. It is their responsibility to decide if a certain witness could actually see, hear and remember what happened.
71. Bernard Jackson was found guilty and sentenced 5 years’ prison because .
A. the police discovered evidence leading to his guilt
B. the admitted the crime of raping two women
C. the victims insisted that he was the attacker
D. the eyewitness proved the victims’ testimony
72. The following statements may be the reasons for why sometimes the eyewitness’ testimony is not accurate EXCEPT .
A. the eyewitness lacks the professional help from police
B. the eyewitness is shown photos of many similar faces
C. the eyewitness is confused by the police’s questions
D. the eyewitness can’t identify people of other races clearly
73. An inaccurate eyewitness testimony may lead to .
A. the misunderstanding of the case B. the conviction of an innocent person
C. the disrespect for the eyewitness D. the disbelief in the court
74. Eyewitness testimony is important because .
A. it is sometimes the only way to resolve court cases.
B. it can be relied on to detect criminals in all cases.
C. it is sometimes the only clue for police investigation.
D. it is more reliable than physical evidences to a crime.
75. According to the text, we can infer that .
A. the jury relies on the judge than the eyewitness for a decision
B. police identification is more reliable than that of the ordinary people
C. crime victims often fail to give positive identification of the suspects
D. eyewitness testimony is valuable, though sometimes incorrect.
第四部分 书面表达(共两节,35分)
第一节 阅读表达:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面旳短文,并根据短文后旳要求答题(请注意问题后旳词数要求.答案写在答卷纸上)
[1]It's safe, it's simple, and it works: Drinking right amounts of water really can help you lose weight, new research shows.
[2]In what researchers claim is the first-ever trial of the effect of water consumption on weight loss, scientists from Virginia Tech found that dieters who started each meal with two glasses of water lost nearly five pounds more, on average, than dieters who did not, over the course of 12 weeks. There's no shortage of clear evidence about how water might work to control your appetite (食欲). It ________________ so you don't eat so much; it keeps down your thirst so that you don't turn to calorie-rich sodas or juices. But until now, the researchers say, there has been no true evidence that water's appetite-controlling benefits ever translate into actual weight loss. Now there is. In the 12-week study period, dieters instructed to drink water with every meal lost an average of 15.5 pounds; dieters given no instructions lost, on average, just 11 pounds.
[3]Perhaps the most surprising thing about the finding is how little we still know about healthy water consumption in general. In fact, although doctors and public health authorities regularly remind us to drink more water, very few studies give any insight into what our ideal quantity may be.
[4]The new results today suggest that many people could indeed stand to drink a little more water than they do. But if you're looking to lose weight, be aware that it is actually possible to drink too much water, and you probably won't help matters any by drinking too much water at a time. In extreme cases, it can even be deadly. A couple of glasses with each meal, however, should be no problem at all for a healthy person.
76. What is the main idea of the text?(no more than 8 words)

77. Complete the following statement with proper words.(no more than 2 words)
Enough obvious evidence _______ how your appetite might be under the control of water.

Possible version:
In the cartoon, we can see a crowd of students are pushing their way through the single-log bridge leading to the college, which they think is the only way to success. The fact is that some succeed in the end, while some fall into the river, still trying hard to climb back to the bridge.
Honestly speaking, to go to college is an ideal way for most of us to find a possible good job in the future, but we should know that what matters in finding a job is not just the college diploma, but what we learn in college. To gain a better future, we still have many other options, we should learn the way of learning, learn to be confident, and learn to cooperate with others. All roads lead to Rome. I think, all of us will surely realize our dreams in different ways.

Text 10
My name is Isaac Evans. It's a very ordinary name and you wouldn't think it had a story to it, but I believe every name has a story to it. "Evans" is a very common Welsh name and I'm not sure exactly what it means, only that there are many "Evans" in Wales and all around Britain.
My grandfather was a farmer. He left his farm in northern Wales to look for work in Manchester. There's a lot of industry there. He experienced a lot of hardship all his life to provide a good future for his family and I'm grateful for that.
"Isaac" is a fairly common boy's name. My parents are doctors and they named me after a famous violinist called Itzhak Perlman. Itzhak Perlman was born in Israel in 1945. Itzhak is an Israeli name. The spelling is I-T-Z-H-A-K. Its pronunciation is similar to Isaac. My parents admired Itzhak Perlman because he was a great musician and he wasn't afraid to try out new ideas in his music. I don't play a musical instrument, but I'm a painter and I often listen to Itzhak Perlman's music when I paint. His music inspires me.
I love my name Isaac Evans, for it sounds musical and friendly.
