Dear_Peter,
It's great to learn that you're coming to China to experience the country life.
The “agritainment”, a kind of farmbased tourism, is now very popular in my
hometown and I think it should be a must for you to experience after your arrival.
As more people from cities are fed up with crowds, noises and traffic jams,
they're trying hard to get closer to nature. However, few people can afford a long
holiday in terms of time and money.
As a result, “agritainment” catches on, which provides people with great
relaxation and enjoyment. If you take the “agritainment”, you can enjoy not only
local food, country views, but some handson activities as well.
I'm sure you'll have a pleasant stay in my hometown.
Looking forward to your coming.
Yours,_
Li_Hua

一、阅读理解
A
(2017·湖北模拟)I turned 16 on Friday, but the Driver's License Office in my
small hometown was only open on Tuesday, so I had to wait through that extremely
long weekend and an endless Monday before going in for my examination.
I came to the Driver's License Office half an hour earlier
that_Tuesday_morning,_pacing back and forth on the worn porch waiting for the office
to open at eight. I reviewed the driver's manual for the hundredth time. I was ready.
I knew the manual backwards and forwards; I had made an “A” in my driver's training
course, and I was a genius behind the wheel.
Finally, the door opened and a wearylooking man in a brown uniform let me in.
“Let me guess. You want to take the driver's test,” his voice was not

enthusiastic.
“Yes!” I answered in excitement.
“OK, fill this out, and if you pass we'll go for a drive.”

ime. A quick check showed that my paper was perfect.
“Let's get in the car.” He tossed me a set of keys, and I slid behind the wheel.
Everything was going smoothly as we pulled out of the empty parking lot. I signaled
a righthand turn, and we were on a deserted street. This was going to be easy.
“Turn left and go up Young Blood Hill,” he ordered. My hometown is in the
mountains, and Young Blood Hill was almost vertical. As I eased up the steep hill
and came to a stop at the top, I heard the car's engine die. My heart sank. I would
have to start it again without rolling back down the hill. I swallowed hard and turned
the key; as I moved my foot from the brake, the car began to roll. I suppose I could
have rolled all the way back to the bottom except for one thing. There was something
behind me that stopped my roll with a rough shake and crash of glass—a police car.
The policeman wrote me a ticket as I looked over the damage, and the man from
the Driver's License Office slid behind the wheel. I waited until we had parked before
I asked how long a person had to wait before taking the test again.

(2017·山东模拟)Social media is one of the fastestgrowing industries in
today's world. A study conducted by the US Pew Research Center showed that 92
percent of teenagers go online daily. The wide spread of social media has changed
nearly all parts of teenagers' lives.
●Changing relationships
High school student Elly Cooper from Illinois said social media often reduces
facetoface communication. “It makes inperson relationships harder because of
people's attention given to their phones instead of their friends,” Cooper said.
Yet, some people believe social media has made it easier to start relationships
with anyone from anywhere. Beth Kaplan from Illinois met her longdistance friend
through social media. He currently lives in Scotland, but they're still able
to frequently communicate with each other. “I can feel close to someone that I'm
talking to via FaceTime,” Kaplan said.
●Wanting to be “liked”
The rise of social media has changed the way teenagers see themselves. The
19yearold Essena O'Neill announced on the social networking service Instagram that
she was quitting social media because it made her unable to stop thinking about
appearing perfect online. Negative comments also can do great damage to a teenager's
selfesteem. Teenagers who get negative comments can't help but feel hurt.
●Opening new doors
However, Armin Korsos, a student from Illinois, takes advantage of the comments
he receives over social media to improve his videos on the social networking site
YouTube. “Social media can help people show themselves and their talents to the
world in a way that has never been possible before,” Korsos said.

二、七选五
If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak; when
you start using again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this, and
nobody would think of questioning the fact. __8__ When someone says that he has
a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising
it regularly, either consciously or unconsciously. When someone else says that his
memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough opportunity to become
strong. __9__One of them exercises his arms and legs by playing tennis, while the
other sits in a chair or a motor car all day.
If a friend complains that his arms are weak, we know that it is his own fault.
__10__ , many of us think that his parents are to blame, or that he is just unlucky,
and few of us realize that it is just as much his own fault as if it was his arms
or legs that were weak. Not all of us can become extremely strong or extremely clever;
but all of us can, if we have ordinary bodies and brains, improve our strength and
our memory by the same means—practice.
Have you ever noticed that people who cannot read or write usually have better
memories than those who can? __11__ Of course, because those who cannot read or
write have to remember things: they cannot write them down in a little notebook.
They have to remember dates, time and prices, names, songs and stories; so their
memory is the whole time being exercised.
__12__, learn from the poor: practice remembering.
A. What do you think of it?
B. Yet many people do not seem to know that the memory works in the same way.
C. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory
D. So if you want a good memory
E. When someone else says that he is poor in the health
F. Why is this?
G. The position is exactly the same as that of two people.
