Blue sheep, native to the Himalayas, lends its name to a small handicraft(手工艺)shop in
downtown Chengdu.Rachael Pinniger from the U.K.opened the store, which offers a wide range of handmade items,in 2013.All of them were made by people with disabilities or serious diseases in remote areas in China.
The 75-year-old woman was formerly a medical practitioner(执业医师)。Before settling down in Chengdu 10 years ago,Rachael had spent more than 40 years working in 15 different countries in Asia and Africa, providing medical services and training local physicians. While living in the Tibet Autonomous Region, she found that many patients were too poor to have their illnesses treated. While many of them were skilled in making traditional crafts, they had no market for their handmade items.
"For these people, the most important thing is to help them integrate(融入)into society,"
Rachael thought."That's not necessarily something the government can do.It's up to all of us to give them a sense of confidence and self-respect."
That inspired Rachael to open a store to help these disadvantaged people bring their crafts to the market so that they could make money and receive effective treatment. She spent nearly all of her life savings collecting items from them and making other necessary preparations.
More than 700 people have benefited from Rachael's initiative(融入),although she has to battle for years to make ends meet with the very limited market, which remains her biggest challenge. Despite financial pressures, she has continued to expand her market by encouraging her overseas friends to buy the products as home decorations or gifts. She collects feedback from customers and gives the craftsmen suggestions on how to improve their items. To help them pick up professional skills,Rachael also invites them to participate in training courses.
As a world traveler,Rachael has no plans for her next destination. At the moment, she will continue to try her best to keep the shop afloat to help more people get through their hard times.
“Mother Teresa's words,'I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person,'have always been my motto.Anytime we can help one person;it makes life worthwhile, even if it is not the world,”she said.
24.Which of the following statements about Rachael Pinniger is TRUE?

D.She always dreamed of running her own business in China.
25.What is special about Rachael's shop in Chengdu?
A.It was co-founded by seriously ill patients.
B.It provides effective treatment for the disabled.
C.It sells products made by the disadvantaged.
D.It provides customers with craft-making training.
26.Rachael is still struggling to_.

B.balance the budget for Blue Sheep
C.involve more craftsmen in her initiative
D.obtain immediate feedback from customers
27.According to the article, the establishment of Blue Sheep.

A ten-year-old sperm whale(抹香鲸)was found dead on a beach in Scotland.A necropsy(尸检) revealed that nearly 100 kilograms of plastic and other trash had formed clumps(硬块)in its digestive system. The tragedy quickly made headlines. Why would a top predator in the ocean eat gloves, rope, and plastic cups?
Conventional wisdom suggests that marine animals eat plastic because it is there and they don't know any better. It is true that plastic may smell like food to some of them. But that doesn't explain why only certain types of whales-deep-diving toothed whales, such as sperm whales and pilot whales-turn up dead on beaches with stomachs full of plastic.
It's possible, says Savoca, that plastic trash sounds like food to toothed whales. These species
hunt deep in the ocean, sometimes nearly 500 meters below the surface, where it's pitch black(漆黑)。 They use echolocation(回声定位)to hunt for food, typically squid(乌贼)。
By contrast, baleen whales(须鲸),including humpbacks and blue whales, have natural filters(过滤器)for their food.Baleen, the brush-like filter-feeding system they have in place of teeth,as well as their narrow throats, keeping them from swallowing anything much larger than the krill(磷虾群)that forms the basis of their diet. That could help explain why baleen whales are not ending up with plastic filled stomachs.
Fifty years ago, there was almost no plastic in the ocean. The lifespan of a large whale can be
twice that long.In the lifetime of a single whale,we went from an ocean with no plastic to hundreds of thousands of tons of it.Plastic comes on top of other factors affecting life in the ocean-climate change, overfishing, shipping traffic, and noise pollution."it's a real shame because their lives are challenging enough even without the additional pressure we put onto them,"says Savoca.
28.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.That plastic smells like food to toothed whales.
B.That marine animals started to eat plastic decades ago.
C.That a number of toothed whales are found dead on beaches every year.
D.That conventional wisdom about why marine animals eat plastic doesn't apply to all whales.
29.Which of the following statements DOESN'T explain why toothed whales are more easily harmed by plastic pollution than baleen whales?
A.They don't feed on krill.
B.They live in the dark depths of the ocean.
C.They are not born with brush-like filter-feeding systems.
D.They don't determine the location of their food with their eyes.
30.What does the author want to emphasize in the last paragraph?
A.Whales have a longer lifespan than humans.
B.Plastic has a negative effect on climate change.
C.Great changes have taken place in the ocean in the past 50 years.
D.Plastic pollution has worsened already serious issues affecting marine life.
31.Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
A.Different diets,different fates
B.Silent killers in the ocean
C.Plastic trash in-the ocean
D.Saving whales

Hit Pause on GONE WITH THE WIND
Congratulations to WarnerMedia on the launch of HBO Max.As an HBO subscriber,I am
excited about the width of programs and films offered on the platform. While I am sure the streaming service will continue to improve with time:Please consider removing Gone With the Wind from your library of films.
As a filmmaker,I get that movies are often brief descriptions of moments in history. They reflect not only the attitudes and opinions of those involved in their creation, but also those of the present culture. As such, even the most well-intentioned films can fall short in how they represent
marginalized(边缘化的)communities.
Gone With the Wind, however, has its own unique problem. It does not just"fall short"with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies(美化)the American South during the Civil War.It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to continue some of the most painful stereotypes(刻板印象)of people of colour. It is a film that romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy(合法性)to the notion that the secessionist movement(分离运动)is something better or more noble than what it was.And it continues to give cover to those who falsely claim that clinging to the traditional imagine of the plantation era is a matter of"heritage, not hate."
Let me be clear:I would just ask, after a period of time has passed, that the film be re-introduced to the HBO Max platform along with other films that give a complete picture of what
slavery and the Confederacy truly were.Or,perhaps it could be paired with conversations about narratives and why it is important to have many voices sharing stories from different perspectives rather than merely those strengthening the views of the present culture.
Currently, there is not even a warning before the film.
I know taking down a film-particularly a classic Hollywood film-seems like a big request. But it is not nearly as big a demand as when your children ask whether they can join protests in the streets against racism,or when they come to you wanting to know what you did to make the world a better place.
I plan on keeping my subscription to HBO Max.But I hope that those in decision-making
positions at WarnerMedia can understand how painful it is to scroll through the platform's library and see it promote one film in particular that has helped to continue the racism that is causing angry and sad Americans to take to the streets.
32.Which of the following statements about HBO Max is NOT true?
A.It was a newly launched streaming platform.
B.It is free to all internet users in the United States.
C.It is a streaming platform supported by WarnerMedia.
D.It features a wide range of TV programs and hit films.
33.According to the author, the main problem with Gone With the Wind lies in the fact that the film
A.ignores the issue of slavery to a large degree
B.shows hate crimes in 19th-century America
C.tells the dark history of the American Civil War
D.questions the legitimacy of the secessionist movement
34.What does the underlined word"narratives"in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Cultures B.Pictures C.Stories D.Events
35.According to the author,Gone With the Wind could be reintroduced to the platform if.
A.more children join protest against racism
B.warnings are issued before the movie
C.more films about marginalized communities are available
D.different voices about the film's plot are heard by the public
第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选
项。
Mind Your"Q's”
Both IQ and EQ are considered important to our career success.36 Enter adaptability quotient(AQ),a subjective set of qualities loosely defined as the ability to thrive(提高) in an environment of fast and frequent change.
Every profession will require adaptability and flexibility.Say you are an accountant.Your IQ gets you through the examinations to become qualified.Your EQ helps your connect with an interviewer, land a job,and develop relationships with clients and colleagues.37
All three quotients are somewhat complementary, since they all help you solve problems and therefore adapt. An ideal candidate possesses all three, but not everyone does.38 While there is no definite method of measuring adaptability like an IQ test, companies are changing their recruitment(招聘)processes to help identify people who may be high in it.
Natalie Fratto,a vice-president at Goldman Sachs,suggests three ways AQ might show in potential candidates:if they can picture possible versions of the future by asking"what if questions;
if they can unlearn information to challenge presumptions;and if they enjoy exploration or seeking out new experiences.
39First,limit distractions and learn to focus so that you can determine what adaptations to make.Second, ask uncomfortable questions to develop courage and normalize fear. Third,be curious about things that fascinate you by having more conversations rather than Googling the answer, something that reduces your ability to solve difficult challenges.
Over the next three years,120 million people in the world's largest economies may need to be reskilled because of automation, according to a 2019 IBM study.40 The ability to learn, change, grow, experiment will become far more important than subject expertise.
A.AQ is now increasingly being sought at the hiring level.
B.One good thing about AQ is that experts say you can work to develop it.
C.We may not all be comfortable with the pace of change-but we can prepare.
D.This is because an algorithm(算法)can do these tasks faster and more accurately than a human.
E.But today,as technology redefines how we work, the skills we need to thrive in the job market
are developing too.
F.Having IQ but no EQ would leave you struggling to embrace new ways of working using your
existing skills.
G.Then, when systems change or aspects of work are automated, you will need AQ to accommodate this innovation and adapt to new ways of performing your role.

He looked over at the other team and back at me,saying,"Their 50m freestyle swimmer,Jack,is talking something bad about you.He said you'd be a good swimmer if you didn't swim like a girl. And he's not only saying something bad about you,but every one of us."Ashley gave me a look of encouragement and added,Atom, you'd better swim as fast as possible and beat him.Show him who's the boss!”
My event was third.By that time, all my friends had shown up and I was preparing for my 50m freestyle sprint(冲刺)I walked over to the blocks(起跑器)and began to prepare myself.

Upon hearing the news, all the students in our school lend a helping hand.We have raised some money, which will be put into your bank account.Besides,we have also collected some basic necessities, such as clothes and food for the victims. We hope our small deeds can be of some help.
I wish none of your family got injured. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to contact me.

One possible version
When the starting gun fired,I jumped into the water.I began pumping my arms fast.“Faster,”I thought,"swim faster!"I was pushing myself to the limit.I took a breath and headed for the wall of the pool.Out of the corner of my eye I saw the guy,Jack, neck and neck with me.“This is close,"I thought I came to the last five meters and sprinted with all my strength.“Go,go,go,"my brain yelled. I hit the wall and lifted my head at almost the same time as Jack.
All I heard was cheering.I looked around and nearly every one, including the other team, was pointing at me in amazement.I had touched the wall a second before Jack.I looked at the official, and he signaled that I had won.I screamed in my head.Ashley and my other friends were jumping with joy.I did not celebrate;it wasn't my style.I glanced over at Jack, who had a look of embarrassment. Seeing that I said sincerely to Jack,“Hey,a good swim.”
