Google's new camera, called Clips, is a small, smart device. It comes with a case that has a clip (夹子) , but it's not designed to be worn on your clothing. Most interestingly, it uses artificial intelligence to take photography out of your hands so it can capture moments on its own.
This roughly 2-inch by 2-inch camera, with a three-hour battery life and Gorilla Glass for toughness, is intended for candid moments, like when a child does something cute that may happen too quickly for you to pull out your smartphone.
Onboard the Clips device, it uses machine learning algorithms (计算程序) to help capture scenes. Those algorithms include face recognition. "Once it learns that there's a face you see frequently, it'll try to get nice photos of those faces," said Juston Payne, the device's product manager. And they also want it to recognize facial expressions, which involved "training it to know what happiness looks like". The Google team also trained it to recognize what not to shoot—like
when a child's hand is over the lens, or if it is tossed in a dark purse.
The only way to see the images is by connecting the camera with your phone, as it has no screen for viewing or editing.
Were people concerned it could seem strange? Yes, Payne admitted. But they said they addressed that by making it obvious what it is. A green light on the front signals that it is on. Besides, unlike a camera meant to monitor your home, it is not connected to the Internet.
"This product is only possible because of the way that silicon has advanced" Payne said, noting that it was only in the past year or so that they could squeeze the technology down into a device this size. Going forward, we're likely to get more assistance from the artificial intelligence packed into our apps and gadgets.
24.What is the most outstanding feature of Clips?
A. It is equipped with tough glass.
B. It enables easy Internet access.
C. It allows of hands-free photography.
D. It can be worn on your clothing.
25.What does the underlined word "candid" in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. brief. B. touching.
C. unforgettable. D. embarrassing.
26.What makes Clips a reality according to Juston Payne?
A. The popularity of the Internet.
B. The advance in technology.
C. The rise of the smartphone industry.
D. The reduction in the price of lens.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A. A New Digital Camera from Google.
B. New Gadgets in the Age of Apps.
C. Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Life.
D. An Alternative Way to Photograph.

Something's happening at the lowest point on our planet, some 1,388 feet below sea level. The
Dead Sea,a salt lake close to Israel,Jordan and the West Bank, is shrinking at an alarming rate-about 3.3 feet per year, according to the environmentalist group EcoPeace Middle East.
"It's not just like one country is punishing the Dead Sea;it's more like the whole region," said photographer Moritz Küstner, who visited the area in February to work on his series "The Dying Dead Sea".
The Dead Sea needs water from the other natural sources surrounding it,such as the Jordan River basin. But around the 1960s,the courses of some water sources it relied upon were diverted. Israel, for instance, built a pipeline during that time so it could supply water throughout the country.
Mineral extraction(提取)industries are another main reason why the water levels are declining, experts say. The Dead Sea's minerals have been popular for their medical power and can often be found in cosmetics(化妆品)and other consumer products.
And then,of course, there's the Middle East's hot,dry climate, which makes it difficult for the lake to refill itself. Last year,Israel and Jordan signed a $900 million deal in an effort to stabilize the Dead Sea's water levels. It involves building a canal from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea which would be able to not only supply water to Israel and Jordan but also to pump much needed water, some 300 million cubic meters annually, into the Dead Sea.
"This is the most important and significant agreement since the peace treaty with Jordan (in 1994)," said Silvan Shalom,Israel's energy and water resources minister at the time. Whether the canal ,estimated to take three years to complete, will work out positively and as planned remains to be seen.
For now,Küstner shows us that the Dead Sea remains very much a place of interest, with people from all over the world going there to swim in its salty waters.
28.How many reasons for the Dead Sea's shrinking does the author mention in the passage?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
29.What does the underlined word "diverted" in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Switch. B. Improve. C. Accomplish. D. Repair.
30.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. The Dead Sea is drying out causing water shortage to humans.
B. Küstner visited the Dead Sea to shoot TV series about people's life.
C. The Dead Sea's minerals have been used in some products.
D. The Dead Sea's water levels have been stabilized by building a canal.
31.What is the passage mainly about?
A. How the Dead Sea's water levels' decline influences human beings.
B. How important the Dead Sea is in Israel, Jordan and the West Bank.
C. What we should do to save the Dead Sea from being destroyed.
D. Why the Dead Sea is dying and the measure taken to save it.

Chinese scientists recently have produced two monkeys with the same gene,Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua,using the same technique that gave us Dolly the sheep. These monkeys are not actually the first primates(灵长类)to be cloned. Another one named Tetra was produced in the late 1990s by embryo(胚胎)splitting, the division of an early-stage embryo into two or four separate cells to make clones. By contrast, they were each made by replacing an egg cell nucleus(原子核)with DNA from a differentiated body cell. This Dolly method, known as somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT),can create more clones and allows researchers greater control over the edits they make to the DNA.
Success came from adopting several new techniques. These included a new type of microscopy to better view the cells during handling or using several materials that encourage cell reprogramming, which hadn't been tried before on primates. Still, the research process proved difficult, and many attempts by the team failed. Just two healthy baby monkeys born from more than 60 tested mothers. This leads to many researchers' pouring water on the idea that the team's results bring scientists closer to cloning humans. They thought this work is not a stepping stone to establishing methods for obtaining live born human clones. Instead, this clearly remains a very foolish thing to attempt,it would be far too inefficient, far too unsafe, and it is also pointless.
But the scientists involved emphasize that this is not their goal. There is now no barrier for cloning primate species, thus cloning humans is closer to reality. However, their research purpose is entirely for producing non-human primate models for human diseases; they absolutely have no intention, and society will not permit this work to be extended to humans. Despite limitations, they treat this breakthrough a novel model system for scientists studying human biology and disease.
32.What do we know about the technology called SCNT?
A. It created the first two primates.
B. It may contribute to editing the DNA.
C. It can divide an early-stage embryo into several cells.
D. It produced two cloned monkeys with different genes.
33.What does the author mean by "pouring water on the idea" in paragraph 2?
A. Keeping a hot topic of it.
B. Having a low opinion of it.
C. Attaching no importance to it.
D. Adding supportive evidence to it.
34.What is the scientists' purpose to clone these monkeys?
A. To help with the study of human diseases.
B. To serve as a stepping stone to their reputation.
C. To prepare for their research on human cloning.
D. To raise money for holding an exhibition of novels.
35.What can we infer from the passage?
A. New techniques seem to be pointless.
B. Cloning humans is already on its way.
C. Society won't agree to clone another monkey.
D. The success rate of cloning a monkey was not high.
第二节:任务型阅读。根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项,请把答案写在答题卡上。
A conversation with a good listener is like a good meal,we walk away feeling satisfied and happy.
36 Here are 4 ways to make your conversation partner feel like you're fully tuned in to their personal radio station.
37
Making your conversation partner feel safe starts with two things:an open mind and keeping judgment to yourself.Just as immersing(沉浸)yourself in a novel requires suspension of disbelief, immersing yourself in listening requires suspension of opinions or advice. While judgments may appear into your head, set them to the side.
Ask questions to follow your natural curiosity.
When you're interested, ask questions. 38 Ask for examples. Ask for details. Following your natural curiosity by asking questions not only shows you are listening and interested, but almost always produces an interesting story.
Listen with your whole body.
In many a kindergarten classroom, teachers emphasize something called "whole body listening". It goes like this:use your eyes to watch nonverbal(非语言),your brain to think about what is being said, your heart to feel emotions and keep the rest of your body quiet to show respect. But many of us lose it over time, especially as life gets busy. The result? We often try to multitask while listening. 39
Validate(使生效)with simple phrases.
Keep in your back pocket some validating words and phrases to show you've heard someone.
"Of course." "That makes sense." "Naturally." "Clearly." "For sure." 40 In conversation, combining those little phrases:"Of course you feel that way." or "That makes total sense." doesn't necessarily convey agreement, but it does convey something even bigger:acceptance.
A. Create safety.
B. Devote yourself to listening.
C. It's appealing to talk about your own experience.
D. We half-listen while getting things done or staring at a screen.
E. Think like a journalist and ask what, when, where, why or how.
F. But being a good listener goes way beyond just not interrupting or nodding your head.
G. All of these statements confirm a person's experience or feelings as worthy and accepted.
