B If you're feeling anxious about the changes that will come your way, here are a few things you can do to welcome in the New Year with a sense of peace and calm. Write a letter to yourself, and have it come from your Higher Self. Go through what happened this year, and let your wiser self give you advice. Write a letter to anyone who you feel incomplete with and need closure. Don't send it. Write it for yourself and for your healing. Say exactly what needs to be said, and don't hold back. Give yourself the gift of forgiving someone who hurt you this year. You can do this in person, over the phone or quietly in your own space. Include yourself in this exercise. What mistake, regret or action do you need to forgive yourself for this year? Accept your family exactly the way they are. Have no expectations that they will be different this time around, whether it's during the holidays or through the next year. Do not expect them to understand you or any choices/decisions you've made or are planning to make. Figure out the few things you can do to reenergize yourself, since you will probably need to turn to these things in the coming year. Does walking in nature get you energized? Does working out get your engines running? Is it sleeping in? Prayer? Meditation? Writing? Be clear about what you need more of to continue on your path. What's the top excuse that gets in your way? Write it down and make friends with it. Ask yourself: Is this really true? Who would you be and what would you do without this excuse? 24. What may be the best title of the passage? A. Forgiving Yourself for the Past Mistakes B. Finding No Excuse to Avoid Changes C. Finding Peace Within for the New Year D. Energizing Yourself for Changes 25. To make yourself less anxious about the changes, you can do all the following EXCEPT . A. Looking back on what happened in the past year to get valuable experience B. Having no expectations that your family will understand you C. Finding out your top excuse that is in your way D. Breaking away from anyone you feel incomplete with 26. The author probably thinks that . 4 A. Having some excuses can help you get along well in the new year B. It is unnecessary to be clear about the things you can do to get yourself energized C. It's important to forgive not only the person who hurt you but also yourself D. To feel good in the new year, you have to forgive yourself for all your mistakes and regrets 27. It can be inferred from the passage that . A. it's no use trying to change your husband's personality B. it's necessary to change your wife's dressing style C. it's unnecessary for you to make a holiday plan for the family D. it's natural for your children to support every decision you make C Sometimes people add to what they say even when they don’t talk.Gestures are the “silent language ” of every culture. We point a finger or move another part of the body to show what we want to say.It is important to know the body language of every country,or we may be misunderstood. In the United States, people greet each other with a handshake in a formal introduction. The handshake must be firm.If the handshake is weak,it is a sign of weakness of unfriendliness.Friends may place a hand on the other ’s arm or shoulder. Some people, usually women, greet a friend with a hug. Space is important to Americans. When two people talk to each other, they usually stand about two and a half feet away and at an angle,so they are not facing each other directly.Americans get uncomfortable when a person stands too close. They will move back to have their space. If Americans touch a person by accident, they say,“Pardon me. ” or “Excuse me. ” Americans like to look the other person in the eyes when they are talking. If you don ’t do so,it means you are bored, hiding something,or are not interested. But when you stare at someone,it is not polite. For Americans,thumbs-up means yes, very good,or well done.Thumbs-down means the opposite. To call a waiter, raise one hand to head level or above. To show you want the check, make a movement with your hands as if you are signing a piece of paper. It is all right to point at things but not at people with the hand and index finger.Americans shake their index finger at children when they scold them and pat them on the head when they admire them. Learning a culture ’s body language is sometimes confusing. If you don ’t know what to do,the safest thing to do is to smile. 28.From the first paragraph we can learn that ________. A.gestures don ’t mean anything while talking B.gestures can help us to express ourselves C.we can learn a language well without body language D.only American people can use gestures 29.In the United States, people often ________. A.show their friendship by touching each other B.show their friendship by glancing at each other C.say “Pardon me ” to each other when they are talking D.get uncomfortable when you stand too close to them 5 30.If you talk with an American friend ,it ’s polite to________. A.look up and down at your friend B.look at him or her in the eyes C.hide your watch now and then D.look at your watch now and then 31.When your friend gives you the thumbs-up,he,in fact,________. A.shows his rudeness to you B.shows his anger to you C.expresses his satisfaction to you D.expresses his worries about you D When an ant dies, other ants take it out of the nest, often within an hour after its death. This behavior interests scientists and they wonder how ants know for sure —and so soon—that another ant is dead. One scientist recently came up with a way to explain this ant behaviour. Dong-Hwan Choe is a biologist, a scientist who studies animals and plants. He found that ants have a chemical on the outside of their bodies that signals to other ants, “ I'm dead— take me away” when it is dead. But there's a question to answer: As we know, if an ant is dead, it stops moving. But when an ant is sleeping or knocked unconscious, it is also not moving. However, other ants don't move the living ant out of the nest. How do they know this ant is not dead? Choe found that ants have another chemical on their bodies, which tells nearby ants something like, “Wait—I'm not dead yet ”when it is not dead. Choe suspects that when an ant dies, the chemical that says, “Wait I'm not dead yet ”quickly goes away. When other ants detect the“dead”chemical without the“not dead yet”chemical, they move away the body. To test his theory , Choe and his team put different chemicals on ants. When the scientists used the “I'm dead” chemical, other ants quickly moved the treated ant away. When the scientists used the “ Wait—I'm not dead yet ” chemical, other ants left the treated ant alone. Choe believes this behavior shows that the “ not dead yet”chemical overrides (超越 ) the“dead” chemical when picked up by other ants. And that when an ant dies, the “not dead yet” chemical fades away. Other nearby ants then detect the remaining “dead”chemical and remove the body from the nest. Understanding this behavior can help scientists figure out how to stop ants from invading new places and causing problems. 32. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. Introducing the background of the passage. B. Leading the following paragraphs. C. Showing the main idea of the passage. D. Giving a summary of the passage. 33. From the passage we learn that Choe . 6 A. has a great interest in the ways ants communicate with each other B. was the first to observe the ant removal behaviour C. built his theory with other biologists D. did more than one experiment on ants 34. What can we learn from the passage? A. Ants often use chemicals to communicate with each other. B. Living ants can also be taken away when they are not moving. C. A living ant can pretend to be dead using a special chemical. D. When an ant dies, it can tell others using a certain chemical. 35. What is mainly discussed in the passage? A. How to decide whether an ant is dead or not. B. Reasons for the removal behavior of ants. C. Why ants have special chemicals on their bodies. D. How ants manage to keep their nests clean. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) (填涂时请注意: E=AB F=AC G=AD ) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Life-changing habits Turn off your phone before bed.
