Mei Huan is adapting, but Mei Lun doesn’t want to touch the unfamiliar bread.‎ ‎ Mei Lun is the livelier of the two, often jumping onto the roof and hanging upside down from a rail, but her slightly younger sister Mei Huan is calmer, preferring to sit still, observe her new environment and occasionally snack on bamboo.‎ ‎ A language barrier is also reported. While the pair respond to their own names, and understand some English phrases such as “come here”, they don’t understand the Sichuan dialect of Chinese.‎ ‎ The news caused some laughter on Chinese social media, with some users commenting that the pandas would soon get used to Sichuan’s famously spicy cuisine. ‎ ‎21. Based on the passage, which statement do you think is right? ‎ A. Still, he says it was notice-able that when an employee 20 years older than him thanked him for buying lunch he had to swallow twice before adding the word "boss".‎ Older workers sometimes envy being managed by a younger colleague. Precocious youngsters, too, can feel awkward about bossing their elders around. But in Germany a shortage of skilled workers means that such situations are becoming ‎ ever more common.‎ The country's population is projected to shrink. As more Germans retire, fewer youngsters are entering the work-force to replace them. As a share of the working population the number of 15-to-24-year-olds has fallen by ten percentage points since the 1980s, says the German Federal Employment Agency. Firms competing to hire young talent have to promote them earlier as a result. A paper by professors at the University of Cambridge and WHU, a German business school, to be published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior, suggests this could be a problem.‎ As in many countries, German work-places are legally obliged to overlook age when deciding whom to promote. Yet according to Jochen Menges, one of the authors, when an ordinary worker leap frogs a more experienced one, it can leave the latter with feelings of “anger, fear and disgust”. People tend to judge their own standing by the success of their peers, and to see failure in being bossed about by someone younger. The relationship between feelings of anxiety and the age of the boss is clear, according to Mr. Menges. A manager who is younger by one year is somewhat unsettling; a gap of 20 years is far more discouraging.‎ German firms certainly should not return to a system in which age equals to rank. But young people need to be sensitive about managing up-wards. And older workers should be encouraged to see the bright side of learning new skills. Daimler, a big German car firm, says it promotes age-mixed teams, so that knowledge can be transferred between generations. It also supports young managers by asking retired employees to provide temporary support. ‎ ‎28. What is the function of a young German manager's remark Paragraph l?‎ ‎ A. To introduce the topic. ‎ B. To state a kind of fact.‎ ‎ C. To attract readers' interest. ‎ D. To describe his own idea.‎ ‎29. Why are some precocious youngsters bossing their elders around in Germany?‎ ‎ A. Precocious youngsters are all skilled workers.‎ ‎ B. Such situations are becoming more common.‎ ‎ C. Fewer youngsters would like to do hard work.‎ ‎ D. Companies compete fiercely to hire young talent.‎ ‎30. Which of the following people might regard himself as a failure?‎ ‎ A. When he has to decide whom to promote.‎ ‎ B. When he leap-frogs a more experienced worker.‎ ‎ C. When he is being bossed about by someone younger.‎ ‎ D. When he experiences feelings of anger, fear and disgust.‎ ‎31. What can we learn from the passage?‎ ‎ A. Qualified workers should be promoted to boss.‎ ‎ B. Older workers should support younger managers.‎ ‎ C. Older workers are no better than younger colleagues.‎ ‎ D. You are never too old to learn, or too young to manage.‎ D The Human Genome(基因组) Project, a great $3 billion, 15-year task aimed at drawing the genetic map of humans, is now more than 90 percent completed. The scientific and medical communities are very excited about the chances genetic research provides for getting rid of diseases and prolonging human life. But those communities and policy makers are also careful about the scientific door they are opening as the project uncovers the mysteries of life.‎ For the last few years, the genetic advances in the fast developing field of biotechnology have provided material for all kinds of work, but the developments of modern science in unlocking the secrets of human genetic code have opened a world of possibilities for human health, as well as for the population imagination.‎ While European and Japanese researchers are making rapid progress in decoding human DNA, the leading organization for genetic research in the Untied States, which began in 1990, is “unlocking the code” of the human body to learn how to defeat fatal diseases. Already, the Human Genome Project has become widely known and praised for finding the genes connected with as yet terrible diseases, and making progress toward separating the genes that show a sign of breast cancer or AIDS.‎ Once these genes are found and studied, researchers can develop new ways to attack infections, and genetic diseases. Medical companies are very interested in mapping the human genome; as they expect to develop a lot of new drugs for these illnesses.‎ ‎32. Why did the scientists work so hard at mapping the human genome?‎ A. Because the human genome can destroy many illnesses.‎ B. Because the human genome’s completion can help to get rid of many diseases.‎ C. Because they wanted to be better known than others.‎ D. Because the Human Genome Project can provide a lot of chances of work.‎ ‎33. According to the passage, which of the following countries is the most advanced in genetic research?‎ A. Japan B. Germany ‎ C. The United States D. China ‎34. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?‎ A. If the genes can be found, scientists can study many new ways to cure illnesses.‎ B. The United States began genetic research early in the 19th century.‎ C. Many medical companies show great interest in drawing the human genome map.‎ D. The scientists have made great progress in connecting some genes with the cancers.‎ ‎35. What is mainly talked about in this passage?‎ A. The great human genome. ‎ B. The discovery of genes.‎ C. My name's Jody and I'm one of the four officers here at Rainforest Lodge. As you can see, we're exactly in the middle of here at the Lodge. There are no newspapers or TVs and there's only one phone and that's in the office. ‎ The Lodge is a complete "getaway from it all" experience: a place to appreciate the world without a lot of interruptions.‎ From your balcony you'll find that you can't see anyone else and the only noise you should hear is the birds. When the luggage comes, one of the guys will take it across to your house for you and make sure you know the way back here to the main centre for dinner in the restaurant. Dinner would be served in about an hour or so.‎ AII the times of each day's activities are printed on the blue sheet that were banded out oi the coach. Each Explorer trip has a different focus. There's always something new to discover in the rainforest.‎ Tomorrow I think we've still got places on the Orchid and Fungi Tour. This is on foot and rakes you to different parts of the rainforest. Or, if you'd prefer, there's the Four-Wheel-Drive tour to the waterfalls. or the fishing trip where I promise w e'll catch some lunch.. ‎
