But he is not a typical superhero. Two things set him apart: He doesn’t fight human enemies, but hunger and homelessness. Also, he’s only four years old.‎ Our superhero’s origin story started from the day when TJ Perine, his father, took Austin to the Firehouse Ministries, a local shelter that provides housing, food and other services for the homeless. As they drove by the building, they saw a group of 25 homeless men standing on the street corner. That day, Austin used his allowance (零用钱) to buy each man a sandwich and handed the food out himself with his slogan, “Don’t forget to show love!”‎ After he returned, words of Austin’s kindness spread through social media. Austin and TJ could feed 25 to 50 people at a time before, and now, thanks to community support, they can feed 800 to 2,000 people.‎ But Austin isn’t merely filling stomachs. He has been improving the lives of the homeless people he meets. On that first trip to Firehouse Ministries, TJ and Austin talked to a poor man named Raymont. The respect Austin showed for him touched 41-year-old Raymont, who regained his ‎ confidence in life and finally found a job with the help of TJ. All that was made possible because a little boy took the time to care.‎ Austin’s passion has become his family’s calling. After raising money through a GoFundMe page, Audrey, TJ’s mother established the nonprofit Show Love Foundation, dedicated to fighting homelessness. She now serves as president, and TJ oversees public relations for the foundation full time. They offer medical and mental health care as preventive steps against homelessness.‎ As for President Austin, he continues to give out food, smiles, and his inspirational message of love. “It makes me feel like I’m saving the day,” he said proudly.‎ ‎4. Why bas Austin become well-known to the entire country?‎ A. He has super power to fill the stomachs of the homeless.‎ B. He fights hunger and homelessness at such a young age.‎ C. He has removed the poverty of the local community.‎ D. He has chosen an impressive and unique name.‎ ‎5. What does the underlined word “dedicated” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?‎ A. Exposed. B. Opposed.‎ C. Devoted. D. Surprised ‎6. Why does the author introduce the example of Raymont in Paragraph 4?‎ A. To show Austin’s positive influence.‎ B. To persuade people to live together with their parents.‎ C. To prove the personal ability of Austin’s father.‎ D. To describe the difficult situation of poor people.‎ ‎7. What is the author’s attitude towards what Austin does?‎ A. Sympathetic. B. Humorous.‎ C. Approving. D. Considerate.‎ ‎【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第一段中的“Two things set him apart: He doesn’t fight human enemies, but ‎ hunger and homelessness. Also, he’s only four years old.” 根据第五段中的“After raising money through a GoFundMe page, Audrey, TJ’s mother established the nonprofit Show Love Foundation”可知受到Austin的影响Audrey 也创立了一个公益组织Show Love Foundation,努力帮助无家可归者。 根据第四段中的“But Austin isn’t merely filling stomachs. He has been improving the lives of the homeless people he meets.” 根据第一段中的“America’s latest superhero Austin Perine, who calls himself President Austin, is now taking the country by storm.” C。‎ C Today, we are constantly bombarded (轰炸) with media reports about research on the right diet to follow to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle or lose weight-but it’s hard to know which one to pick and, once chosen, it’s harder still to stick to it. And now there’s another choice to get our teeth into.‎ A flexitarian (弹性素食者) diet involves eating plant-based foods and only occasionally eating meat and fish. This eating style allows you to supplement some ingredients that you wouldn’t get in a stricter vegan (素食主义者) diet-another trend growing in popularity. And like veganism, flexitarianism isn’t about eating carefully to help you lose a few pounds-it’s something people choose to help the planet. And a study into the global food system and how it affects the climate, has found that eating mainly plant-based foods is one of three key steps towards a sustainable (可持续的) future for all by 2050.‎ This research found that food waste will need to be halved and farming practices will also have to improve to achieve this. But without a single solution, a combined approach is needed. Dr Marco ‎ Springmann from the University of Oxford was one of the lead authors of the report. He told the BBC “We really found that a combination of measures would be needed to stay within environmental limits and those include changes towards healthier more plant-based diets.”‎ But whereas vegans think it’s wrong for animals to be killed for food, flexitarians believe eating meat once in a while is acceptable. And Dr Springmann agrees-as long as we “treat it as a luxury, it’s probably OK but you shouldn’t have more than one serving of red meat, which includes beef and pork, per week.” And here’s another fact to digest: If we moved to this type of diet, the study found that greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture would be cut by more than half.‎ ‎8. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?‎ A. To lead to the topic. B. To entertain the readers.‎ C. To ask for information. D. To present an idea.‎ ‎9. What do we know about a flexitarian diet?‎ A. Flexitarianism aims to help you lose weight.‎ B. It involves eating no meat.‎ C. It benefits the environment.‎ D. It is the most popular eating style.‎ ‎10. What does Dr. Marco Springmann agree with?‎ A. It’s wrong to kill animals for food.‎ B. Improving farming practices makes no sense.‎ C. A plant-based diet has nothing to do with climate change.‎ D. Combined measures are needed for environmental protection.‎ ‎11. What can be the suitable title for the text?‎ A. Methods of keeping fit B. Choose a flexitarian diet C. Measures to protect the environment D. Keep a strict vegan diet ‎【答案】8. A 9. C 10. D 11. 故选A项。 根据第二段中的“A flexitarian (弹性素食者) diet involves eating plant-based foods and only occasionally eating meat and fish. 根据第二段中的“it’s something people choose to help the planet. And a study into the global food system a... a sustainable future for all by 2050.” 根据倒数第二段中的“We really found that a combination of measures would be needed to stay within environmental limits and those include changes towards healthier more plant-based diets”可知.Dr Marco Springmann认为要保持在环境限制之内,需要结合一系列措施,其中包括朝着更健康、更以植物为基础的饮食方式转变。 ‎ D A Colourful Puzzle People often wear clothing with colours that express something about themselves. A happy person might choose to wear a bright yellow shirt. A swimmer might wear a sea-blue dress.‎ Animals appear in different colours too, but they don’t get to pick what they wear every morning. Scientists have known for a long time about some of the ways animal colouring can be beneficial. They know that some animals’ colours attract mates or show who is boss. Other animals’ colours blend (融合) in with their environment; thus the animals cannot be seen by their enemies. Still, scientists do not fully understand why blue jays are blue or why rainforest frogs are golden. Now many scientists are working hard to figure out the puzzles of animal colours.‎ Part of the answer can be found in an animal’s habitat, the place where it lives. It turns out that many animals-especially birds, fish, and reptiles-can see more colours than humans can. These creatures notice colours that stand out in their habitat. For example, forests are mostly green, brown, and yellow. For an animal to be seen by others of its species, it would have to be a different colour than its background. That explains why you can find birds of many shades of blue living in forests.‎ Another piece of the puzzle lies in what an animal eats. Birds often eat things that have chemicals in them called “carotenoids” (类胡萝卜素). These chemicals are what make tomatoes red and bell peppers bright orange or yellow. When birds eat these foods, the carotenoids affect the colour of their feathers. For example, a cardinal’s bright red feathers will become lighter or darer depending on how many berries it has found to eat.‎ Some animals do not have any colour at all-but they are not just white; they are transparent (透明的)! Transparent animals live mostly in the ocean. This amazing wonder of nature came about because the animals needed a way to escape their enemies. They are often slow, defenseless creatures that would have no way of fighting back if larger animals wanted to eat them. Because there are few places to hid in the ocean, these creatures have to hide in plain sight. A good example of this kind of transparent creature is the jellyfish. A jellyfish’s body is almost all water, so it is very hard to see it floating in the ocean.‎ Animals come in all kinds of colours. Their colours are caused by many different factors, and most animals will remain the same colour for their whole lives. Think how lucky we are to get to change our feathers every day!‎ ‎12. What is the main idea of this text?‎ A. Animals appear in many different colours.‎ B. Animals are unable to choose their colours.‎ C. Animal’ colours are caused by different factors.‎ D. Animals need colours to blend into their surroundings.‎ ‎13. According to the text, what is the reason that some animals are transparent?‎ A. It marks the places they live in.‎ B. It shows the leader of the group.‎ C. It helps them to escape enemies.‎ D. It allows their mates to see them.‎ ‎14. It can be inferred that why football players wear uniforms during a game is ________.‎ A. to identify group members B. to show their personalities C. to distinguish the group leader D. to blend in with the environment ‎15. How is the text mainly organized?‎ A. By comparisons. B. Through classification and explanations.‎ C. In order of events. D. In order of importance.‎ ‎【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. It is/has been+一段时间+since 主语+一般过去时态+---。 It is three years since he began to smoke. It is three years since he smoked. It is/was… who/that结构来突出强调句子的某一成分(一般是句子中主语,宾语或状语)。 It is my mother who/that cooks every day. It was yesterday that Tom passed in the maths exam. It is I who am right. It is he who is wrong. It is the students who are lovely.‎ ‎3. lt was the things and people that they remembered that they were talking about.‎ ‎4. It was three years ago that he went to American for a further study去掉It was that句子为Three years ago he went to America for a further study. ‎ Dear Helen,‎ I am writing offer my sincere congratulations. You won the first prize in the Chinese Chess Network Challenge. As your friend, I just want you to know how gladly I am at your success.‎ In the last few year, you had shown great interest in Chinese chess. You keep on practicing them every day. Finally, you succeeded in win the online competition!‎ I was so very happy that I couldn’t go to sleep last night. I’m eager to play Chinese chess with you at the community club, which we’ll enjoy ourselves.‎ Yours,‎ Mike ‎【答案】1. writing后加to ‎2. gladly →glad ‎3. year→years ‎4. had→have ‎5. them→it ‎6. and→but ‎7. on→in ‎8. win→winning ‎9. 去掉very ‎10. which→where ‎【解析】‎ ‎【分析】‎ 本文是一封祝贺信。 I am writing to offer… 故将them改成it。‎ ‎6. not only…, but also… so…that意为“如此…以致于”,so与very的意义重复了,故将very去掉。‎ ‎10. 分析可知which we’ll enjoy ourselves是定语从句,先行词 the community club为地点名词,在非限制性定语从句中作地点状语,所以用where 引导。故将which改成where。 I will never forget the days when I stayed in Peking University. ‎ Dear schoolmates,‎ ‎_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.‎ ‎【答案】 As we all know, more and more cultural relics have been damaged.
