M: Alice, are you OK? You’re sweating and I think you’ve got NOMOPHOBIA!

has to be switched off. What can I do?

think the first thing you can do is to turn off your phone before your bedtime. Nomophobia never
sleeps and neither will you.
W: Yeah, no wonder I always feel tired. But what should I do during day time?
M: Instead of holding it in your hand and checking it every few minutes, the next thing is to set a
certain time to check your phone, which is also helpful for you to concentrate on your work. And
last, try to spend real time with your family and friends rather than connecting with them over
social media.
W: Your suggestions are really helpful. I feel much better now.
M: Good, switch off your phone and take a deep breath. Let’s finish today’s broadcast and enjoy
the time without being distracted by your phone.

The insect-eaten money floated in pieces to the floor. For the global music star Angelique
Kidjo, that scene of her grandmother having to use a closet as a bank is driving her desire to see
African women overcome the many blocks to obtain credit and respect.
The Benin-born singer, one of Africans iconic (偶像的) artists and a collaborator (合作者)
with Philip Glass and others, is the voice of a new project aimed in part at rewriting laws across
the continent that prevent millions of women from becoming a more powerful economic force.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Kidjo described what she had seen over decades
of travel in Africa during which women in lively marketplaces wished they had the means to do
more.
“Why do banks give more loans to men versus women? That’s the question I have,” she said,
“Millions of businesswomen in Africa lack loans versus men. And men pay less back than
women.”
Every time credit is refused to African women, who consume some 90% of what they earn in
educating their children, raising families and building communities as opposed to about 40% for
men. “It’s a disaster,” Kidjo said, “We’re taking up reducing the poverty rate in Africa to the
smallest number ever.”
She recalled women in Ghana who often dug a hole in the ground to save their earnings
because they didn’t have bank accounts. And during a visit to Benin last month, one woman told
her that to obtain a loan of 5,000 CFA ($8) she had to show a property deed and hand over
100,000 CFA as collateral (抵押). Such experiences have set her thinking.
Kidjo has won a major human rights award for she has shown unusual courage in standing up
to unfairness.
24. What is Kidjo’s motivation to help women in Africa?
A. The low living standard of their families.
B. The poverty rate of some African countries.
C. Their heavy burden of housework and educating children.
D. Their difficulty in getting bank accounts and loans.
25. What can we learn about African women?
A. They play a major role in supporting families and communities.
B. They have become a more powerful political force.
C. They will help government rewrite laws to gain rights.
D. They all have to keep their money in holes.
26. Which of the following words can best describe Kidjo?
A. Strict and determined. B. Caring and courageous.
C. Demanding and ambitious. D. Considerate and cautious.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Icon’s Efforts to Help African Women Get Credit
B. Tips to Support Families and Communities
C. Troubles in Opening Bank Accounts in Africa
D. Ways to Protect Women’s Rights
D 25. A 26. B 27. A

It is among nature’s greatest spectacles. Each year, thousands of sea turtle mothers clamber
ashore, dig into the sand to lay their eggs, and then return to the sea. After being incubated(孵)for
around two months, the eggs hatch and the tiny turtles strive to reach the water.
Approximately 90 percent of the sea turtle nesting in the United States happens on Florida's
beaches , according to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, a Gainesville-based research and conservation
organization. During the nesting season, which runs from March through October, the sands are
normally crowded with humans. However, this year the coronavirus pandemic severely reduced
travel and required some states to close their beaches for weeks. While this sounded disappointing
to the visitors, it may have been a boon to the sea turtles.
For turtle mothers, there can be " false crawls" , in which a female encounters a distraction
between the water and a potential nesting site. The crowded beaches would interrupt the sea
turtles' plan, sending them back to the ocean without laying eggs.
“ In terms of a successful rate of nesting, we actually did find a significant difference during
the beach closures and then after," says Justin Perrault, director of the organization, “We have
observed approximately 17,000 nests along Juno, Jupiter-Carlin, and Tequesta beaches this year.
During the closures, loggerheads, one of the commonly seen turtles on Florida's beach,
successfully nested 61 percent. When the beaches reopened, that number dropped to 46 percent. ”
Jimena Gutierrrez, a Sea Turtle Conservancy biologist also expresses her opinion, “ Normally
the turtles are conserved because we have a lot of people coming to see them. With fewer tourism
dollars supporting local workers, we are worried about the conservationists as well as the turtles.
But maybe in the long run, we will see good numbers because there is less boat traffic in the
ocean.
28. What does the underlined word “boon” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Cure. B. Option.
C. Blessing. D. Challenge.
29. What can be concluded from Paragraph 4?
A. Closures should be expanded for turtles, nesting.
B. This year has witnessed the highest nest rate in history.
C. The nest rate has remained steady over the whole nesting season.
D. Less human disturbance has led to more successful nesting.
30. How does Jimena's opinion sound?
A. Anxious. B. Ambiguous. C. Indifferent. D.
Objective.
31. Where can we probably read this article?
A. www. sealifeconservation. com. B. www. worldissues. com.
C. www. scienceforstudents. com. D. www. newsflash. com.
C 29. D 30. D 31. A

cure“治疗”;option“选择”;blessing“祝福;赐福”;challenge“挑战”。
In terms of a successful rate of nesting, we actually did find a
significant difference during the beach closures and then after”(就筑巢成功率而言,我们确实
During the closures,
loggerheads, one of the commonly seen turtles on Florida’s beach successfully nested 61
percent.When the beaches reopened,that number dropped to 46 percent.”(在关闭期间,佛
workers,we are worried about the conservationists as well as the turtles. But maybe in the long
run,we will see good numbers because there is less boat traffic in the ocean.”(随着支持当地

NASA aims to send a man and a woman to the moon by 2024. This is the goal of its Artemis
program. But for Artemis to succeed, the U. S. space agency first needs to solve a big problem: the
damaging threat of moon dust.
Over billions of years, celestial (天体的)bodies, such as asteroids and meteors, have
slammed into the moon. These hits have crushed some lunar rocks into dust. The surfs radiation
gives the dust an electric charge that makes it stick to everything. Those powdery bits are like u
broken pieces of glass" , notes Mihaly Horanyi, a physicist at the University of Colorado Boulder.
The dust is so rough, in fact, that it can damage equipment. If taken in, it might even harm an
astronaut's health. Horanyi is part of a team that has now figured out how to overcome one
troubling aspect of the dust: its static cling, using a low-powered electron beam (电子束).When
shined onto the dust, that beam sends the dust flying.
During the 1970s, the astronauts in NASA's Apollo missions relied on a very low-tech system
to clean lunar dust off their spacesuits. They swept it away with what looked like the brushes used
to paint a house. But the electrically charged nature of space dust tended to fail such hand
sweepers.
The new electron-beam broom takes advantage of the dust's electrical characteristic. As the
beam hits the dust, it releases electrons into the tiny spaces between particles. Some of these
negatively charged electrons will be absorbed by the surrounding dust.
One problem with the electron beam, at least for now, is that it leaves up to one-fourth of the
dust behind. The Boulder group aims to strengthen that cleaning power. Horanyi says the electron
beam is just one of several ways future space explorers could keep surfaces clean. Others might
include changes to a spacesuit's design.
32. Why should the moon dust problem be solved?
A. It might affect astronauts' health and equipment.
B. It can give off harmful radiation.
C. It can stick to the surface of the spaceship.
D. It might cause serious crashes.
33. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?

Waste management is an industry. Many forms of waste can develop into a major problem
when they are not handled properly. ___36___
Humans generate (生产)a great deal of waste as a byproduct of their existence. Every task,
from preparing a meal to producing a car, is accompanied with the production of waste materials.
Waste management agencies have placed an increasing focus on reducing waste so that there is
less waste to cope with. ___37___ Good examples include developing more efficient processes
and reducing packaging. And individual consumers can also make a contribution by trying and
making less waste. A big part of this movement has focused on recycling, in which usable goods
are reused.
Transportation of waste is a major issue. The reason is that appropriate disposal sites may be
remote.
___38___ Subscription pickup services are available, with people paying a flat fee to have
their waste picked up and disposed of, and people can also subscribe to special services, like
medical waste pickup services.
___39___ Historically, the approach to a great deal of waste is burying it in landfills. This
option has become increasingly problematic due to issues like limited space, pollution, and the
concern that usable materials may be buried in landfills. Waste has also been burned, in some
cases being used to generate electric power. Some other approaches to waste management have
included simply dumping it into the sea or shooting it out into space without any attempt at
containment. ___40___ Rather than effectively deal with waste problems, they bring waste
management problems to future generations.
A. So it is vital to develop effective waste management strategies.
B. This can be done on an industrial level.
C. These approaches are especially troubling.
D. Once collected, waste has to be dealt with.
E. Difficult as it is, it is not an impossible mission.
F. When this happens, sea animals will be affected.
G. It involves the classification and storage of waste.
