Thomas Edison was one of ten said to be the greatest genius of his age. There are only a few men in all of the history, who have changed the lives of other men as much as the inventor of the first useful electric light. But Edison could never be happy only because someone said he was a genius. “There is no such thing as genius,” Edison said. He said that what people called genius was mostly hard work.
But Edison was a dreamer as well as a worker. From his earliest days as a child he wondered about the secrets of nature. Nature, he often said, is full of secrets. He tried to understand them; then, he tried to learn what could usefully be done with them.
Edison enjoyed thinking. He knew that most people will do almost anything instead of the difficult work of thinking, especially if they do not think very often. But he knew, too, that thinking can give men enjoyment and pleasure.
Edison could not understand how anyone could be uninterested in life. As he loved to think, he also loved to work. On the day he became 75 years old, someone asked him what ideas he had about life. “Work,” he answered. “Discovering the secrets of nature and using them to make men happier.” He said he had enough inventions in his mind to give him another 100 years of work.

B.people’s success lies mostly in genius

8.The last sentence in the passage most probably implies __________.
A.life is too short for Edison to invent more for human beings
B.Edison made 100 inventions in his life
C.Edison was able to live and work for 100 years
D.people of his time were ready to give Edison another 100 years’ work

The year was 1932. Amelia Earhart was flying alone from North America to England in a small one-engine airplane. At midnight, she ran into bad weather. To make things worse, her altimeter failed. (The altimeter shows the height of the plane above the ground.) At night, and in a storm, a pilot is in great difficulty without an altimeter. At times, her plane nearly dived into the Atlantic Ocean.
Just before daylight, there was further trouble. Amelia noticed fire coming from the engine. Would she be able to reach land? There was nothing to do except to keep going and to hope.
Amelia Earhart did reach Ireland, and for the courage she had shown, she was warmly welcomed in England and Europe. When she returned to the United States, she was honoured by President Hoover at a special dinner in the White House. From that time on, Amelia Earhart was famous.

A rainforest is an area covered by tall trees with the total high rainfall spreading quite equally through the year and the temperature rarely falling below 16°C. Rainforests have a great effect on the world environment because they can take in heat from the sun and adjust the climate. Without the forest cover, these areas would reflect more heat into the atmosphere, warming the rest of the world. Losing the rainforests may also influence wind and rainfall patterns, potentially causing certain natural disasters all over the world.
In the past hundred years, humans have begun destroying rainforests in search of three major resources : land for crops, wood for paper and other products, land for raising farm animals. This action affects the environment as a whole. For example, a lot of carbon dioxide in the air comes from burning the rainforests. People obviously have a need for the resources we gain from cutting trees but we will suffer much more than we will benefit.
There are two main reasons for this. Firstly, when people cut down trees, generally they can only use the land for a year or two. Secondly, cutting large sections of rainforests may provide a good supply of wood right now, but in the long run it actually reduces
the world’s wood supply. Rainforests are often called the world's drugstore. More than 25% of the medicines we use today come from plants in rainforests. However, fewer than 1% of rainforest plants have been examined for their medical value. It is extremely likely that our best chance to cure diseases lies somewhere in the world’s shrinking rainforests.
13.Rainforests can help to adjust the climate because they .
A.reflect more heat into the atmosphere
B.bring about high rainfall throughout the world
C.rarely cause the temperature to drop lower than 16°C
D.absorb the heat from the sun, reducing the effect of heat from the sun on the earth
14.What does the underlined word “this” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.We will lose much more than we can gain.
B.Humans have begun destroying rainforests.
C.People have a strong desire for resources.
D.Much carbon dioxide comes from burning rainforests.
15.It can be inferred from the text that .
A.we can get enough resources without rainforests
B.there is great medicine potential in rainforests
C.we will grow fewer kinds of crops in the gained land
D.the level of annual rainfall affects wind patterns

To help you understand what 5G is, and what it means to you, we’ve put together a handy guide here.
What is 5G?
16_____At its most basic level, 5G will be used to make calls, send texts, and to simply get online. But it’s going to be significantly faster than previous generations, and could open the door up to a range of exciting new uses.
17_____
5G will use new higher radio frequencies to send out data, which are less cluttered(挤了)and carry information much faster. While these higher bands are faster, they don’t carry information as far. That’s to say, smaller multiple input and output antennas (天线)will be used—promoting both signals and capacity(容量).18_____
Why is it better than 4G?
5G is expected to be faster than 4G, with some firms claiming it could be as much as 100 times quicker. The fastest 4G networks can deliver peak download speeds of around 300 Mbit/s.19_____In real life, this could allow you to download a full HD film in less than 10 seconds!
20_____It means there will be very little—if any—delay when you carry out tasks on a device. While this will help improve things like gaming experiences, it could also pave the way for safer self-driving cars—in which even a short delay could be life-saving.
Finally, 5G will have a larger capacity, meaning networks will be able to deal with several apps at once. Generally, this should mean that devices have a faster, more stable connection.
A.How does 5G work?
B.How will 5G affect you?
C.5G is also expected to have a lower latency.
D.5G is short for “5th generation mobile network.”
E.In comparison, 5G could offer download speeds of over 1 Gb/s.
F.Therefore, the similarity between 5G and 4G technology is huge.
G.This means 5G will support up to 1,000 more devices per meter than 4G.
