The Tang Dynasty was the golden age of Chinese poetry. In a period of almost 300 years, about 50,000 poems were composed and handed down. The development of Tang poetry went through four major periods: early Tang, high Tang, mid Tang and late Tang.
There are four distinguished poets from the early Tang period: Wang Bo, Yang Jiong, Lu Zhaolin and Luo Binwang. They gave Tang poetry new characteristics. As a result, the themes of the poems changed from the luxury of the palace to the lives of common people. One of the most outstanding poets during this time is Chen zi’ang. He felt that poems should reflect reality and he helped to lay the groundwork for the development of Tang poetry.
Chinese poetry reached its high peak in the high Tang. Li Bai and Du Fu probably had the greatest influences on writing at that time. Apart from Li Bai and Du Fu, many other poets also made enduring contributions in this period. These poets fell roughly into two categories: the landscape poets represented by Meng Haoran and Wang Wei and the frontier poets represented by Gao Shi, Cen Shen and Wang Changling.
Poetry of the mid Tang built on the creative output of the height of the Tang Dynasty. Works of this period mainly spoke of social turbulence(动荡)and people’s sufferings. Bai Juyi was famous as a realist poet of this period. He tried to make his language plain, smooth and lively so that more people could enjoy his poems.
The late Tang period saw the well-known peots Li Shangyin and Du Mu. Du Mu’s poems were fresh and cool and expressed his sadness and frustration in his official career. The other famous poets were Pi Rixiu, Nie Yizhong, and Du Xuanhe, and their poems criticized social injustices.
21.The passage is mainly about ________.
A. the history of Tang Dynasty B. the development of Tang poetry

We're living in a time when a seemingly endless number of devices are demanding our attention while claiming to make our lives better and easier. However, this overpowering presence of technology actually makes it harder than ever to achieve a healthy balance of connectivity and disconnection-certainly harder than it was a generation ago.
“There are no contemplative (沉思的 ,冥想的) times that are built into our day like they used to be," Wisdom 2. 0 Conference founder Gordhamer told Anderson Cooper in a mindfulness-themed 60 Minutes broadcast on Sunday night. “When I was a kid, my dad came home at 5, and I don't remember him getting work calls or checking his emails-we didn't have email. There were naturally built-in contemplative moments. That doesn't exist anymore. "
During this segment (部分) of the show, Cooper led a discussion with Gordhamer, Friedman, Carl and Fernandez about the challenges of making time for pauses and contemplative moments in our technology-saturated(技术渗透的) lives. The broadcast also featured a crew of outstanding mindfulness figures from famous American universities and corporations, including Dr. Judson Brewer from the University of Massachusetts and the founder of mindfulness-based stress reduction Jon Kabat-Zinn.
“What people are realizing is that constant connectivity is great for part of the day, but if you do it in your entire day, you're more stressed, you can't sleep, you're less present with your kids," said Gordhamer. “They're hungry for some way to say, but I need time for myself and I need time for some kind of contemplative space in my day. "
24. What does the underlined word “devices" in Paragraph l probably refer to?
A. High-tech products. B. Chances.
C. Pressures. D. Communications.
25. prevents us from pauses and contemplative moments in our lives.
A. The decrease of contemplative moments B. The update of app softwares
C. The irresistible attraction of technology D. The invention of smart phones
26. What seems to be Gordhamer's tone when he is describing the past life?
A. Desirable. B. Negative. C. Uncompromising. D. Sharp.

The Life-changing Antique Navajo Blanket
A California man and his family went from rags to riches after discovering that the blanket given to him by his grandmother was worth a small fortune. Loren Krylzer was living in a small hut and barely getting by on his disability payments. One day, he happened to be watching Antiques Roadshow on TV when he learned that the forgotten
old blanket in his closet might be valuable. The Krytzer family heirloom (传家宝) turned out to be an antique (古老的) Navajo weaving from the 19th century that fetched US$1.5 million at auction (拍卖会).
Krytzer's blanket was prized for much more than its antiquity. Among Native American tribes, the Navajo are recognized as the most skillful weavers (织布工) of blankets and rugs. The weaving style is characterized by vivid, varied patterns and exceptional durability (耐久性). From shearing the sheep, spinning, preparing, and dyeing the wool to the actual weaving process, it takes around 345 hours to create one blanket.
Women traditionally wove Navajo blankets while men built the weaving devices. To this day, Navajo people still make high quality blankets and rugs to sell. They believe that, since only God is perfect, their creations should have some imperfection. Another Navajo belief is that their souls are sewn into every weaving, so they intentionally include a hidden loose thread into each piece. This ensures that it isn't too perfect, and their souls can still escape into the afterlife.
The Krylzers also had a loose thread on their road to riches that allowed them to escape the trap of financial ruin. In an unfortunate twist, the family's life-changing windfall (意外之财) came with a huge tax bill from the government and a lot of imploring relatives. After taking a family vacation in Mexico, buying a new sports car and a couple of real estate purchases, Krytzer lost his disability payments and now gets big bills for property taxes and insurance instead. Ironically, the family decided to relocate to a less expensive state to save money.
27. How did the Krytzer family go from rags to riches?
A. A family member purchased a winning lottery ticket.
B. Loren was invited to have an interview on a TV show.
C. Loren’s disability payments were unexpectedly increased.
D. Loren auctioned off a blanket his grandmother gave him.
28. A loose thread woven in a Navajo blanket indicates that_____.
A. God’s creation is also imperfect
B. people can exit from horrible situations
C. its owner is sure to have an everlasting life
D. the blanket is really made by hand
29. Why did the family finally decide to move to another state?
A. To reduce the cost of living.
B. To be hidden from their relatives.
C. To change for a better environment.
D. To apply for disability payments again.
30. According to the article, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Navajo blankets have nice patterns but don’t last long.
B. Loren Krytzer made millions of dollars from disability.
C. Weaving a blanket involves many processes and skills.
D. Loren’s life went from bad to worse because of the windfall.

It was the first time that my father had asked me to help him. By the time we finished, herring (鲱鱼) covered the bottom of the boat as deep as my knees. For the first time in days, my father seemed happy.
Then he looked at the western sky, and his smile disappeared.
They are called Northwesters(西北风). They’re storms that sweep out of Canada hard and fast. No one can predict their arrival. All fishermen fear them.
“We’re going back,” my father said.
He started the motor. We were only two miles out, but the shore looked to me as far away as the moon. Over the distant hills, black clouds ran towards us like wild horses. My father set a course directly for them.
We made it only half way home before we met the storm.
The wind came first. It lifted the lake in whitecaps(白泡沫). The weight of the herring made us ride low in the water, and the waves broke over our bow (船头).
By the time the rain came, we had put more distance behind us. Although we were now only half a mile from shore, the rain fell so hard that we couldn’t see the land.
I was scared, but I saw my father sitting erect in the stern (船尾) , holding the boat steady into the wind, and I felt hopeful.
I was starting to think we were going to make it. That’s when the motor died. My father tried many times to restart it, but failed. I saw the boat was coming about. I knew what that meant. We would sink in no time.
“Grab an oar (桨), ” he shouted above the wind.
We set the oars in the locks (船锁) and began to pull hard. My father dug his oar into the water, bringing the boat around, bow into the wind again. With all the strength, I pulled on my own oar.
The wind pushed hard against us. We seemed to be fighting the anger of the whole lake.

2)读后续写范文:
I was tired. My arms were so heavy that I felt as if they were on fire. We were pushed up and down by the waves. I didn’t know how much longer I could pulled the oar through the water. As if he had read my mind, my father called to me, “ I need you, Karl! Only a little longer!” So I kept pulling. Just as I thought I was worn out, I heard it—the sound of waves beating against the shore. It refreshed us greatly and we persisted in paddling. Bit by bit, we moved into the shelter with all the herring.[来源:Z.xx.k.Com]
My mother rushed through the rain to greet us. ”I’ve been so worried,” she said. She hugged me tightly and then my father. “Nothing to worry about,” he assured her. He placed his hand on my shoulder. “You did well, son. How do you feel?” Exhausted as I was, I managed a smile. “Fine. And Daddy, you are a hero!” But my father added,” What a lesson we have learned today! Don’t put yourself at the mercy of waves and rain. Face them bravely. The storm will die down”.

M: It’s abandoned, so there’s nothing there. By the way, did you bring the water up from the car?

W: Well, I’ve got tons of homework to do before next Monday. You know we have exams on Wednesday afternoon. (15) What about calling a taxi? It shouldn’t be too expensive on a day with so little traffic.
M: You’re right. But it’s not money I’m worried about; it’s the time of day.
W: You think there won’t be any taxis on the road in the morning?
M: Exactly. I won’t be able to get a ride and I’ll miss my flight. I could explain how you’re helping me. So our teacher might excuse you. (15)
W: That would be great, but I doubt if I can get out of a final exam. My neighbor sometimes drives people to the downtown area. (16) He charges them $6, and they save money on a $10 parking fee.
M: Do you think he’d take me?
W: I’ll be happy to give you his number. (16)
Text 10
It was certainly an unusual morning. Amber was late for work for the first time in two years. (17) But even more unusual was the story she told her boss. As she was about to send her son to school, a friend called and said there was a crime being reported on Amber’s street. She looked down the street and saw a large man with an angry face. He was knocking loudly on her neighbor’s door. (18) She knew Frank was going to be late for school, but she didn’t dare to let him leave. A few minutes later, she heard the police arrive. She knew they would be safe then, so she told her son he could leave. But when Frank opened the door, their cat ran out into the yard. (19) Amber ran after the cat, but it ran to the left. Just as the cat was picking up speed, Amber finally caught up to it. She grabbed it by the tail and shouted as if she just won a victory. Just then, she looked up and saw a shiny car entering her neighborhood. It was the Stevensons, the “perfect” neighbors with all the right friends. And there was Amber, standing in her nightshirt, surrounded by police cars, and holding a scared cat in the air by the tail. (20)
