Unit 4 How do you get to school? 课堂教学设计
Section A Period 1 (1a——2d and Grammar Focus)
一.教材分析
Unit4的主要话题是“transportation”,它与我们学生的日常生活紧密联系,生活离不开“行”,因此本单元就是学习描述人们日常出行的主要方式,学习一般现在时,一个生活中离不开的时态。
Section A第一课时 :以听说为主,利用多媒体感受语言,通过听和看图来确定或描述人物的出行方式,教材以How do you get to school?为中心话题,围绕“traffic way”展开,运用一般现在时。Section A与学生的实际密切相关,易于引发学生用英语进行交际交流,完成听说读写的任务活动,重点掌握和熟练应用 How do you get to school? How long does it take? 及其答语等句型。
二.教学目标
1. 语言知识目标
掌握有关交通的词汇,如take the subway/train, ride the bicycle, go by bus/boat/plane, go on foot, transportation, bus stop, train station,kilometer, mile, river以及其它一些词汇。
掌握由How引导的特殊疑问句及其答句:
How do you get to school? I ride my bike.
How long does it take?
It takes about forty minutes.
2. 语言技能目标
学会谈论交通工具;
学会恰当安排行程,并合理选用交通工具。
3. 情感态度目标
让学生感受到他们学习英语是为了在现实生活中进行交流,而不单纯是为了英语课和应付考试而学习,了解东西方国家出行方式的不同,以及不同的交通规则,教育学生注意交通安全, 加深对交通知识的了解。
4. 学习策略目标:
要求学生采用自主学习,合作学习等方式、根据需要进行有目的预习;改变传统的死记硬背,积极主动的投入到语言的实践中去,用英语去思考问题,在实践中提高语言的综合使用能力,加深对基础知识的掌握和记忆,通过小组猜测、讨论、对话、游戏等多种形式,让学生在活动中、游戏中、合作与交流中快乐地学习。
5. 文化意识目标:中外交通规则差异

1 交际法和情景法教学。
2 以学生为中心和任务型教学,采用多媒体辅助教学,引导各层次学生自主学习。

2.Teacher shows pictures on the computer .归纳出行方式和常用短语.

3 Show a picture about Part 1 , on the computer .

Listen to the tape , twice ,and try to match them.

Listen again and try to finish 1b, then discuss the answers.

5. Practice in groups or pairs.
Look at the pictures. How do students get to school? Make conversations..

(通过示图训练对话,提高积极主动性,根据实际情况练习,将英语用于生活,解决于生活)
Step III. Listen and repeat.
T shows the numbers on the TV and ask them to say together and then check some students . Pay attention to “--ty” . Do 2b together. Then listen twice to match 2c and check the answers.
(游戏来学数字,练数字,比单纯的教更易激活思维)
Step IV
1.Show a picture on the TV and explain these are your home and school .Teach 1 How long 2 10 minutes home----------school
Look at 2d Then make up a dialogue to practice.
A: How do you get to school?
B: I usually take the bus.
A: How long does it take?
B: It takes 30 minutes by bus
利用多媒体导入how long 和minutes是网络与英语的经典整合。
2. Practice 学生看图片,小组内合作练习,找学生回答,老师就学生情况作出评价.
3. Grammar Focus
⑴Give them 3 questions on the TV . Read the passage in groups and try to answer them. If you have any questions, you can ask me.
A How does he get to school?
B How long does it take?
C How far is it from his home to school?
⑵ Check the answers and solve the difficult points.
4. Play games to practice “how” “how long ” “how far”
找几组同学当小演员,互相猜出他/她花费多长时间上学,离校多远,答案与接近的组为优胜组。
Step V Sum up
1 If you have any questions ,put up your hands.
2 What do you learn from this lesson?
S1 : We learn some knowledge about the traffic.
S2:We should choose the best traffic way to save time and money.
S3: Safety is the first, we should be careful if we’re out.

(在学生尽情的参与活动后,再让学生反思本节课的语法焦点,并进行适当操练,对学生在人物活动中失误进行纠正,保证学生自信心。)
Step VI Homework
1. Revise the key phrases in Section A 1a.
2. Search some words about transportation to make cards and try to
introduce them to the classmates next time.
( search the Internet or ask the others to discuss how students around the world get to school.)

教学反思:
本节课上完后有如下感受:
a) 以前总认为学生不爱学习,以至课堂气氛不浓.通过使用多媒体教学,学生的积极性调动起来了,课堂生动活泼,也增加了教学容量。
b) 基本按照新课标的要求让学生成为课堂的主体,让他们多说多练,教学效果较好。
c) 由于学生基础较差,所以设计Play games活动学生表现不佳。
.Unit Four How do you get to school?

Hello, everyone, I’m Chen Yan, I come from Hu zhu Middle school. Now I will say section A from 1a to 1c of Unit 4 in Go For it , I will say it from four parts.
Part One: Analysis of the teaching materials.
1. Status and function.
This lesson is important, it is the first one of this Unit. So if the students learn it well, it will be useful to learn the rest of this Unit.
In this unit, the Ss learn the ways of transportation, such a topic is related to their daily life. So it can raise the students’ learning interests and improve their spoken English.
2. Analysis of the students.
Students of Grade 8 have learned English for more than 4 years. They have a good foundation in words and sentences. They have mastered some skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing . They have taken a good interest in English now, they enjoy learning English.
3.Teaching aims and demands.
a. Knowledge objects.
To learn the new words “take, subway, train,” To make the students know how to use the sentences “How do you get to school? How does he get to school?”
Let the students can answer the questions above.
a. Ability objects.
(1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening ,speaking, reading and writing.
(2) To train the students’ ability of working in pairs.
(3) To develop the students’ ability of communication by learning the useful structures.
C. Moral objects.
To enable the students to work with others and help each other.
4.Teaching key and difficult points.
a.Key points.
(1) To make the students can use the new words and expressions and help the students to communicate each other.
(2) How-special question.

A tape recorder, cards and multi-media computer.
Part 2: Analysis of the teaching methods.
1. Communicative teaching method.
2. Audio-visual teaching method.
3. task-based teaching method.
To use these methods is helpful to develop the students’ thought. As we all know, the main aims of learning English in Middle school is to cultivate the students’ abilities of listening, reading, speaking and writing. So I use the“communicative” teaching method, “Audio-visual” teaching method and “task-based” teaching method. That is to say, I will let the students get the better understanding of the key structures of the dialogue. I’ll give the students some tasks and arrange five kinds of activities: listening, guessing games, watching CAI, acting out dialogues and make a survey.
Part 3: Analysis of the learning methods.
I request the students to study English independently and cooperatively. Each Unit of Go for it contains pair work, group work and games. The students who sit at the same table and groups can make a discussion and learn each other. It makes the students more relaxed, they needn’t worry about making mistakes, It can arouse the students to think and to say what they want to say. The students become more relaxed and pleased in this kind of environment.
Part 4. Analysis of the teaching procedures.
Step1. presentation.(About 20 minutes)
1. Sing an English song.(About 4 minutes)
Let the students sing a song following the computer.
Purpose of my designing: To attract the students’ attention and create a relaxed studying environment.
2. Let the students look at the pictures on the screen, review the words “bus, car,
taxi and bike.” And then tell the students this lesson we will learn the ways of transportations, Then write down the sentence “ How do you get to school?” on the blackboard.
3. Learn the new words and expressions, and ask the students “How do you get to school?” Help the students to answer “take the bus, take the subway, take the train, ride a bike, walk.”
4.Play a guessing game. How does he/she get to work? I’ll ask the students about the focus stars such as Yao Ming, Zhou Jielun, LiuXiang and more. They are popular among the students in China, the students must be interested in them.
5.Ask the students to complete 1a, then check the answer with them.
Purpose of my designing: To present the ways of transportation by CAI is more easier for the students to learn and grasp the meanings. CAI can provide a real situation with its picture and it makes the relationships between students better.
Step2. Listening.( About 5minutes)
Before I play 1b.I ask the students: how do you get to school? I want them to remember the ways of transportation. And I play 1b, let the students to complete 1b, the check the answer. And then let the students listen and imitate the dialogue.
Step3. Pairwork and groupwork.( About 6 minutes)
Ask two students read the conversation, then let the students practice in pairs. After that, ask them to practice in groups like this:
A: How do you get to school?
B: I take a subway.
C: How does B get to school?
D: He takes a subway.
Encourage them to use different words and find out the best group. In this step, the students are required to practice the sample in pairs by reading the dialogue aloud. This step is employed to make the students grasp the sample. At last I’ll ask the students to thing hard and act it out well. I’ll give them some cards with numbers as a prize.
Purpose of my designing: This step is employed to make the students get the general idea of the dialogue as a whole one. At the same time, let the students have a chance to practice their listening and spoken ability. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the students’ ability of communication and also their ability of cooperation. I think proper competition can arouse the students’ interest in English learning if the students can finish the task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English.
Step4 Tell the students another way of these sentences on the screen and practice.( About 8 minutes)
In this step, tell the students: take the/a transportation to sw and get/go to sw by transportation have the same meaning. But before here, there and home, we can’t use “to”.
Purpose of my designing: This step is used to train the students’ ability of using English in many ways.
Step5.make a survey and give a report.(About 5 minutes)

Let the students make conversations like this:
A: Hello! Can I ask you some questions?
B: OK!
A: How do you get to school?
B: I take the bus to school.
A: How does he get to school?
B: He goes to school by bus.
A: Thank you very much.
B: You are welcome.
Then the students give us reports like this: Bob takes the bus to school and Yang Lan rides her bike to school. But I get to school on foot.
Purpose of my designing: I think survey is so important that the students should speak as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the students to investigate the others to consolidate the knowledge they learned.
Step7. Homework.
Let the students make a survey –How do your family members get to school or get to work ? How do your teachers get to work? Then write a report.

Reflection after teaching:
In this lesson, I design tasks according to the << New English curriculum criterion>>. I want to lead my students to study and cooperate with each other. So I mainly adopt the task-based learning method. Try to have the students learn by guessing, by having a competition, by investigation. I also design many kinds of activities to help the students solve the difficulties and importance. This is my teaching designing, Please give me some advice. Thank you very much.
