According to The World Happiness Report, people who live in Denmark (丹麦) are the happiest in the world. Why? Because they know the secret to happiness—“hygge”. But what is “hygge”?
The Danish (丹麦的) word “hygge” (pronounced “hooga”) is often translated(翻译) in English as “coziness”. But coziness paints only part of the picture. It's also about spending peaceful time in a quiet environment with no calendar. It's about spending time alone or spending time with family.
Danish people are very good at “hygge”. For example, they create a “hygge” environment by burning candles in classrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc. According to some reports, Danish people burn more candles every year than people from any other European country.
However, “hygge” isn't just about creating a nice and warm environment; it is
12
best enjoyed with family members and friends. With up to 17 hours of darkness every day in winter, Danish people spend more time indoors as a result, and they often get together for a meal or hot drinks, without the distraction(使人分心的事物) of technology or the stress of daily life.
Still can't understand what “hygge” is? If you're reading this in a comfortable chair, with a few candles around you, that sense of coziness you're feeling might just be “hygge”.

Fraser Island is in Queensland, Australia, about 200 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is about 120 kilometers long and 240 kilometers wide. It is a very important island because it is completely made of sand. In fact, it is the largest sand island in the world. There is no airport on the island, but there is a long beach along the east coast. Planes arrive and leave from here.
The sand makes unusual shapes. There are hills made of sand called sand blows. Nothing grows on them. They move one or two meters a year from the northwest towards the southeast of the island, getting bigger and bigger. At other places on the island, such as Rainbow Gorge, the Cathedrals and Red Canyon, the sandy rocks have different colors. Sometimes the rocks are so brown that they turn the sea brown, like coffee.
Surprisingly, the sandy island has a lot of different plants and animals. There are dark forests—eucalyptus woods, beautiful flowers and over a hundred lakes. There are many kinds of birds, like owls and curlews. There are many animals there, too, such as crocodiles, flying foxes and wild dogs called dingoes.
About 500,000 people visit the island every year to see the island's beauty and nature. People enjoy camping and hiking(徒步)there. Unluckily, the visitors create problems. They damage plants and frighten animals. Their sun cream(防晒霜)makes the water dirty. So it is necessary to manage the visitors. For example, people may not use motor boats or go fishing in the lakes, and they need official papers to drive there.
59. The passage is mainly about ____.
A. the shape of Fraser Island
B. nature on Fraser Island
12
C. the history of Fraser Island
D. daily life on Fraser Island
60. From the 3rd paragraph we can infer(推断)that the ____ is a kind of plant.
A. eucalyptus B. owl C. curlew D. dingo
61. Visitors may not be allowed to ____ on Fraser Island soon.
A. camp or hike
B. go fishing in the sea
C. wear sun cream
D. drive without official papers

Socotra: a land that time forgets
An island with beautiful white beaches and clear blue water full of colorful fish. . . this is Socotra. It sounds nice, but it doesn't sound very unusual, does it? Well, there's a lot more to Socotra than that. You can see things there that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Socotra is in the west of Indian Ocean. It lies about 240 kilometres east of the Horn of Africa and 380 kilometres south of the Arabian Peninsula. The island separated from Africa many, many years ago, and over the time it has developed its own unique (独一无二的) plant life. If you travel away from the beautiful beaches and up into the rocky mountains in the middle of the island, you may feel like you're going back in time.
Perhaps you'll see the desert rose, with its pretty pink flowers. The desert rose is a “bottle” tree. It stores water in its fat trunk (树干). Like many of Socotra's plants, it has developed to survive (存活) in the island's hot, dry climate.
One of the most unusual plants on Socotra is the “dragon's blood” tree. It is shaped like an umbrella, with a lot of branches(树枝) under a green top. The tree gets its name from the red sap(树液) that comes out when it is cut. This sap has been used for centuries as a medicine and to make red paint.
Socotra isn't an easy place for tourists to visit. To get there, you need to fly from Yemen. There are only a few hotels in its largest town, Hadibu, and the island doesn't
