Unit3 Writing home
General Goals for Unit3
In this unit, Li Ming, Jenny and Danny write home in various ways from Beijing. This unit reviews days of the week, months of the year, ordinal numbers and address writing. It teaches students standard letter-writing vocabulary and formats. It encourages students to explore description in English through letter writing.
Specific Goals for Unit 3 Mastery Vocabulary
Students can read, write, Say and aurally understand the following vocabulary:
Nouns(mail context):
Left, right, e-mail, postcard, letter, stamp, envelope, top , bottom, corner, computer
Verb:
Send
Oral Vocabulary
Students can say and aurally understand the following vocabulary:
Directions:
Turn right, turn left, go straight
Common phrases:
How many do you need?
How much is /are ? yuan (each).
I want to (send/write) a
(letter/postcard/e-mail)to my (family member).
Each unit exposes students to more words and phrases than they need to master or use orally. We have included these extra words because they form part of typical English conversation, which, we believe, students should hear. These extra words and phrases also allow the natural curiosity of children to guide some of their language learning.

一、Suggestions for review
·Sing “I Am Drawing” to review “read,” “write” and “picture.”(See “Songs and Chants.”)
二、Key concepts

三、Introduce
·Demonstrate “postcard” and “letter” with real objects. Translate “e-mail.”
四、Use the student book and audiotape
· The student book uses the word “send.” Can anyone find this word in the lesson?
五、Use the activity book
·Number 1 in the activity book is a listening exercise on the audiotape as follows:
Listen. Match the pictures and words.
Draw blue lines for Mrs. Li. Mrs. Li is writing a letter. She is sending it to my grandmother and my dad.
Now draw yellow lines. I am writing a postcard. I am sending it to my cousin and my uncle.
Draw red lines for Danny. Danny is writing an e-mail. He is sending it to his uncle and aunt.
Draw green line for Jenny. Jenny is writing a postcard. She is sending it to her mum and dad.
·In Number 2 of the activity book, ask the students to refer to the student book for any vocabulary they have not yet mastered (such as “send” and “computer”)
