一、不定冠词a，an的基本用法
1. 用于可数名词的单数形式前，表示“一”。如;
There is a tiger in the zoo. 动物园里有一只老虎。
2. 表示一类人或事物。如;
A tiger can be dangerous. 老虎可能有危险性。
3. 表示“某一个”。如;
A gentleman wants to see you. 有一位先生要见你。
4. 表示“每一”。如;
We go swimming three times a week. 我们每周去游泳三次。
5. 用在作表语的单数可数名词前，表示身份、职业。如;
My mother is a teacher. 我妈妈是一名教师。
6. 含不定冠词的固定搭配;

不定冠词a和an的区别
判断在一个单词前用a还是用an，是根据其读音，而不是根据其首字母来判断的。以元音音素开头的词前用an，以辅音音素开头的词前用a。如; an hour,an honest boy, a useful book, a university student。
注意; ①在26个字母中，前面用an的字母有12个; （前四个元音字母）a，e，i. o; （以音素/e/开头的字母）f，l，m，n，S，x; h，r。
例题1

【解析】C表泛指用不定冠词。European以辅音音素开头，故用a; Asian以元音音素开头，故用an。

二、定冠词the的基本用法
1. 谈话双方都知道的人或物。如;
The book is Tom's. 这本书是汤姆的。
2. 用于特指某人或某物。如;
The girl in the hat is my friend. 戴帽子的女孩是我的朋友。
3. 用在世界上独一无二的事物前。如;
The earth goes around the sun. 地球绕着太阳转。
4. 用在乐器名称前。如;
Millie is playing the violin. 米莉正在拉小提琴。
5. 用在序数词或形容词的最高级前。如;
He lives on the third floor. 他住在三楼。
Lucy is the most beautiful girl in our class.
露西是我们班最漂亮的女孩。
6. 用在姓氏的复数前，表示“一家人或夫妇二人”。如;
The Greens are watching TV now. 格林一家正在看电视。
7. 用在上文已提到的人或物前。如;
There is a book on the desk. The book is mine 课桌上有本书，这本书是我的。
8. 用在表示海洋、江河、山脉、群岛、国家和党派等名词前，或由普通名词构成的专有名词前。如;
the Yellow River黄河; the United States美国; the Great Wall长城
9. 用在某些形容词前表示一类人。如;
the rich富人; the poor穷人; the old老人; the young年轻人
10.用于“the+比较级，the+比较级”及“the+比较级+of+两者”的句型中。如;
The more careful you are, the fewer mistakes you will make.
你越仔细，你犯的错误就越少。
Lucy is the taller of the twins. 露西是双胞胎中较高的那一个。
11. the用在表示某个世纪的某个年代。如;
in the 1980s 20世纪80年代
12.用在某些固定短语中。如;
by the way顺便说一下; in the morning在早上; in the future在将来;

三、不用冠词的情况
1. 与by连用的交通工具名称前不加冠词。如;
by car乘汽车by bike骑自行车by plane乘
飞机by ship乘船by bus乘公共汽车 2. 专有名词前一般不加冠词（特指时加冠词）。如;
China中国 Europe欧洲 Lei Feng 雷锋
3. 月份、星期、某些节日前一般不加冠词（特指时加冠词）。但以festival组成的节日名称前要加the。如;
January 一月 Sunday星期日 Christmas Day 圣诞节 the Spring Festival春节
4. 三餐、四季前一般不加冠词。如;
Summer is the best season for swimming. 夏天是游泳的最佳季节。
(指具体某年的某个季节，需用冠词。如; in the Summer of 2019)
5. 表示打球时，球类名词前一般不加冠词。如;
play basketball打篮球play volleyball打排球
6. 如果名词前已有指示代词、形容词性物主代词等限定词，就不再用冠词。如;
This is his desk. 这是他的书桌。
7. 有些固定词组不加冠词。如;
in fact事实上at home在家at first起初
