It is well-known that fatigue driving(疲劳驾驶)is very dangerous.A device that stops drives from falling asleep at the wheel is about to undergo testing at Department of Transport laboratories and could go on sale within 12 months.
The device is a kind of system, which is called Driver Alert, and it aims to reduce deadly road accidents by 20%—40%that are caused by tiredness.Airline pilots can also use it to reduce the 30% of all pilot-error accidents that are related to fatigue.
Driver Alert is based on a computerized wristband. The device, worn by drivers or pilots, gives out a sound about every four minutes during a car journey. After each sound the driver must respond by squeezing the steering wheel.A sensor in the wristband detects this pressing action and measures the time between the sound and the driver’s response.
Driver’s response time is directly related to tiredness.Usually, a watchful driver would take about 400 milliseconds to respond, but once that falls to more than 500 milliseconds, it suggests that the driver is getting sleepy.
In such cases the device gives out more regular and louder sounds, showing that the driver should open a window or stop for a rest.If the driver’s response continues to slow down, the sounds become more frequent until a nonstop alarm warns that the driver must stop as soon as possible.
The device has been delivered to the department’s laboratories for testing. If these tests, scheduled for six months’time, are successful, the makers will bring the product to market within about a year.

Long before belly dancing became mostly all entertainment for mgil, women belly danced for their female family members before childbirth or weddings without any mall present. The stomach rolling was believed to help the mother-to-be have a smoother delivery. It was also a sign of fertility(多产)and a connection with Mother Nature. While performing this dance, women in scarves and veils would play finger cymbals(手指铙钹)along with the music. They’d also dance with coin belts tied around their waists. These belts were worn in case the dancer had to run away quickly with the family’s wealth.Aside from the belts, belly dancers would sometimes bring to the stage candles, swords, and even snakes.
In the 1950’s,belly dancing was outlawed in Egypt and other parts of the Middle East Even today, it is illegal to show belly dancing on television.Belly dancing is still forbidden in parts of the Middle East today, but enjoyed by both men and women in other parts of the world.

Children can be looked on as natural scientists, they are always eager to look into the world around them.Helping them enjoy science can be easy;there’s no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. What you should do is only to have to share your children’s curiosity.Firstly, listen to their questions.Once I visited a classroom of seven-year-olds to talk about science as a job.The children asked me“textbook questions”about schooling, salary and whether I liked my job. When I finished answering,we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said,“Now that we’re finished with your lists,do you have questions of your own about science?”
There was a long silence, then a boy raised his hand,“Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢)eat? When I try eating leaves like that,I get a stomachache. Why?”
This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.
Secondly, let them think themselves.Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one.second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their“wait time”to three seconds or more, children give more logical(符合逻辑的),complete and creative answers.
Thirdly, notice your language.Once you have a child involved in a science discussion, don’t jump in with“That’s right”or“Very good”.These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behavior. But in talking about science, quick praise can suggest that discussion is over, Instead, keep things going by saying,“That’s interesting”or“I’d never thought of it that way before”.or coming up with more questions or ideas.
Remember:Never push a child to“Think”.It doesn’t make sense, children are always thinking, without your telling them to.What’s more, this can turn a conversation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want,in as few words as possible.so that he will be a smaller target for your disagreement.
Lastly, show;don’t tell.Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children Can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大镜),and they’ll understand why you want them to wash before dinner.Rather than saying that water
evaporates(蒸发),set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
71.According to the passage, children are natural scientists, and to raise their interest,
the most important thing for adults to do is .
A.to let them see the world around
B.to share the children’s curiosity
C.to explain difficult phrases about science
D. to supply the children with lab equipment
72.In the last sentence of the first paragraph, the word“lists”could best be replaced by .
A.any questions B.any problems
C.questions from textbooks D.any number of questions
73.According to the passage, children Can answer questions in a more logical, complete and creative way if adults .
A.ask them to answer quickly.
B.wait for one or two seconds after a question.
C.tell them to answer the next day.
D.wait at least for three seconds after a.question.
74.In which of the following paragraph(s)does the author tell us what to say to encourage
Children in a science discussion?
A.The second and third. B.The fourth and fifth.
C.The fifth and sixth. D.The seventh.

Let me tell you about five of the enemies we face from within. The first nemy that you’ve got to destroy before it destroys you is indifference. What a tragic(悲剧的)disease this is!“Ho-hum,let it slide(滑动).I’ll just drift along.”Here’s one problem with drifting:you can’t drift your way to the top of the mountain.
The second enemy we face is indecision(优柔寡断).Indecision is the thief of opportunity and enterprise. It will steal your chances for a better future.Take a sword to this enemy.
The third enemy inside is doubt.Sure, there’S room for healthy skepticism. You can’t believe everything. But you also can’t let doubt take over. Many people doubt the past, doubt the future, doubt each other, doubt the government, doubt the possibilities and doubt the opportunities. ,they doubt themselves.I’m telling you, doubt will destroy your life and your chances of success. It will empty both your bank account and your heart.Doubt is all enemy.Get rid of it.
The fourth enemy within is worry. We’ve all got to worry some.Just don’t let it conquer(征服)you.Instead, let it alarm you.Worry can be useful. If you step off the curb(侧石)in New York City and a taxi is coming, you’ve got to worry. But you can’t let worry loose like a mad dog that drives you into a small coffer. Here’s what you’ve got to do with your worries:drive them into a small corner. Whatever is out to get you, you’ve got to get it.Whatever is pushing on you, you’ve got to oush back.
The fifth enemy is overcaution. It is the timid(胆小的)approach to life.Timidity is not a virtue;it’s all illness. If you let it go,it’ll conquer you.Timid people don’t get promoted. They don’t advance and grow and become powerful in the marketplace. You’ve got to avoid overcaution.

One possible version:
Recently, some serious laws have been passed to punish any drunk drivers. We held a heated discussion about it in our school.
As we all know, drunk driving easily causes accidents and it endangers the safety of the drivers themselves and others.
To deal with the situation,it's far from enough for the traffic police to warn the drunk drivers or simply get them fined. The solution of the problem cal ls for heavier punishments. Therefore, most of us students strongly support the new laws aimed at preventing drunk driving.
In my opinion,it’s a long way to go to put an end to this phenomenon. We must carry on traffic safety education quite often and make the drivers aware of the importance of obeying traffic rules as well as the sufferings they might cause to other people.Last but not least, related laws should be strictly put into effect. In a word, drunk driving must be prohibited by any possible means.

M:I love dogs. They have been used as guards for centuries.Nowadays, they are often used to find il legal drugs and bombs by the police and customs officers.
W:The program also pointed out that they are used by farmers to round up sheep and by rescue workers to find people trapped under snow.
M:Horses are useful to people too,We use them for sports and recreation.
W:Don’t forget that horses are still used in many countries to pull ploughs and carts.
M:Can you ride a horse?
W:Yes,I can.I don’t ride regularly though.How about you?
M:I can ride too.Perhaps we could go horse riding together at the weekend.
W:What a good idea!
9.W:I understand how you feel sir.But there simply isn’t any room. The person who received your reservation call must have forgotten to write it down.I’m afraid it was just a mistake. She is new,you know.
M:Just a mistake? Do you realize that I’ve invited some important people to dinner? It could cause me to lose an important business partner.
W:I’m sorry, sir.I suggest you call them and explain the problem.I’m sure you’-ll find several other very good restaurants around here.
M:I can’t get in touch with them now. They are probably,on their way at this Very minute.Surely you could fit one more table in.
W:Not unless you’d like me to put you in the hall, sir.
M:Well,that’s better than nothing.
