could be almost gone by the middle of the century. Now, a new study offers more hope.It shows that the risk of fisheries(渔场) collapse has ‎ recently decreased in some areas-some, but not all. ‎ BORIS WORM: “This means different regions are heading in different directions and some regions have indeed begun to eliminate overfishing.”‎ Boris Worm at Dalhousie University in Canada and Ray Hilborn at the University of Washington in Seattle were lead authors of the new study. ‎ Professor Worm also led the earlier study published in 2006.Professor Hilborn publicly disagreed with those findings. The result: the two scientists agreed to work together on a new study. ‎ They led a team that studied ten areas. In five of them, the rate at which fish are being taken out of the sea has dropped to a level that should let the populations recover.Three areas still had overfishing, but corrective measures have begun.‎ Yet, in all, almost two-thirds of fish populations studied worldwide still need rebuilding.‎ Only two areas did not have an overfishing problem in either the new study or the earlier one. They are New Zealand and the American state of Alaska. ‎ The new study found that overfishing has been reduced in Canada’s Newfoundland-Labrador area and in Iceland and southern Australia. It also found improvements in the northeastern United States and the California Current that flows south along the West Coast. ‎ The study found that better controls are still needed in the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Biscay between France and Spain.‎ The findings from two years of research appear in the journal Science.‎ Using nets that let smaller fish escape and agreeing not to fish in certain areas can help reduce overfishing. The study showed that these measures helped fish populations grow in Kenya.‎ But one of the authors of the study, from the Wildlife Conservation Society, says fisheries in Africa face another threat. Most countries in Africa, he says, are selling fishing rights to industrialized nations which catch large amounts of seafood. ‎ The study shows what happened when industrialized nations increased ‎ restrictions on fishing in their own waters.Seafood companies moved their boats to developing countries with fewer restrictions.‎ ‎64.Among the ten areas surveyed in the new study, _______ of them were not so overfished as they used to be.‎ A.two-thirds B.five C.three D.two ‎65.As to the new study, which of the following statements is Wrong?‎ A.It found that two of the areas studied showed improvements.‎ B.It lasted two years in all.‎ C.It showed that many areas still needed improving.‎ D.It was conducted not only by Boris Worm and Ray Hilborn.‎ ‎66.The underlined word in paragraph 2 eliminate most probably means________.‎ A.defeat B.reduce C.get rid of D.improve ‎67.Which can be the best title for the passage?‎ A.Study Finds Some Ocean Fisheries Are Recovering B.Boris Worm and Ray Hilborn’s New Study C.New Findings Perrugia claimed all responsibility for the theft, and it was twenty years before the whole story came out.In fact Perrugia had been working for Valfierno and Chaudron, who went unpunished for their crime. They would offer to steal a famous painting from a gallery(美术馆) for a dishonest dealer or private collector. They would then make a copy of the picture and, with the help of bribed(受贿的) gallery workers, would then attach the copy to the back of the original painting. The dealer ‎ would then be taken to the gallery and make a secret mark on the back of the painting.Of course the dealer would actually be marking the copy. After having been given the marked painting, if the dealer were to see the painting still in the gallery, he would be persuaded that it was a copy, and that he possessed the genuine one.‎ This time, however, they stole the original. Before Perrugia was arrested, Valfierno and Chaudron had gone to New York.Valfierno told the story to a journalist in 1914, on condition that it would not be published until his death.‎ Does the story end there? Collectors have claimed that Perrugia returned a copy.It is also possible that Leonardo may have painted several versions of the Mona Lisa, or they might be copies made by Leonardo’s pupils. There has been a lot of argument about the 450-year-old painting, but after all, maybe that’s what she’s smiling about.‎ ‎72.The Mona Lisa was stolen on _________.‎ A.August 9th B.August 10th C.August 11th D.August 12th ‎73.Choose the right time order of the following events.‎ a.Valfierno told the story to a journalist. b.Perrugia was arrested.‎ c.The truth was published. d.The Mona Lisa was stolen.‎ e.Valfierno went to New York. f.The theft was announced.‎ A.d, f, b, e, a, c B.d, f, e, b, a, c C.d, f, b, e, c, a D.f, d, e, b, c, a ‎74.We can infer from the passage that _________.‎ A.In most cases, Valfierno did not sell the original paintings ‎ B.The Mona Lisa was painted 45 years ago ‎ C.Perrugia returned a copy ‎ D.Perrugia was not to blame for the theft ‎ ‎75.All of the following about Valfierno and Chaudron are true EXCEPT_________.‎ A.They stole paintings and then sold them to dishonest dealers.‎ B.They were not punished for stealing the Mona Lisa.‎ C.They kept the story to themselves until death.‎ D.They sometimes bribed gallery workers to help them.‎ 第Ⅱ卷 (非选择题 共35分)‎ 四. ‎ One day a policeman was walking down the street, ‎ leading a little boy by the hand. The child was in tear and 76. __________‎ was trying all time to break away from the angry policeman. 77. __________‎ Suddenly an old lady comes up to him and said, “How can 78. __________‎ you be such cruel? The four boys’ untimely death sparked off a heated debate over whether it was done right. ‎ Personally I think the four boys did the right thing trying to save the girl, but it was not advisable to put themselves in danger. It is against traditional moral values not to come to someone’s rescue when he is in desperate need of help. The four boys were brave enough to risk their own lives saving a stranger. However, a reckless disregard for one’s own safety is likely to cost him his life, as was the case with the four boys. They were supposed to ensure their own safety and try some other means to help.‎ ‎[答案解析]‎ ‎24. It has something for everyone and I would recommend it for a day out.‎ Firstly, getting there; there are organized coach trips from most towns in the area but they leave early and come home very late, so I drove. There are 12,000 free parking spaces, so parking is no problem. You can also get there by train, but the station is 15 minutes from Waterside by bus, and the buses are really crowded, so you sometimes have a long wait.‎ One thing to remember is that the shops don't open till ‎10.00 in the morning except on Saturday when they open at 9.00. So don't get there too early on a weekday. They close at 8 o'clock every day except Friday when they're open until 9 pm.‎ The shopping centre is arranged on three levels. You'll find all your favorites here. In fact if you want to buy a pair of shoes there are 15 different shops to choose from on levels one and two. When you run out of money there are seven different banks, but collect your money before you get to the third level as there aren't any banks up there. On that level, however, there are several restaurants, as well as a cinema with seven screens. And don't get lost like I did, go to the information desk on the first level and get a map.‎
