My first response was to call a repairman. I made the call, expecting the man at the other end of the line to complain about such an awful job. Instead, he simply asked, “The address?”‎ An hour later Steve arrived in his truck. He looked exactly as I had imagined he might: broad and bearlike, in wellworn clothing. “Can you fix it?” I asked with a mixture of doubt and hope. Steve looked at me as if responding to my lack of faith. With a cheerful shrug that suggested my crisis was all in a day's work for ‎ him, he said, “Sure.”‎ After a short while, Steve told me that he had to get a tool and tear up the street to the main sewer line. He would first have to get permission from the town. I registered appropriate panic. “How long will all this take?” Again, a shrug. “I should have it done by evening.”‎ I did not want to watch the digging of my property unfold and went into town to visit some friends. I felt somewhat guilty upon driving off in my clean vehicle, leaving Steve to such a disagreeable task. Finally, when I went home, a sweeter sight I never saw: a period of newly paved street and all was tidy and relatively dry.‎ I need to say, in my own defense, that I am not a weak father of two children. I've traveled all over the world, served in the United States Navy and earned a PhD. But the broken sewer line was my limit. Then I thought about Steve. Big, rough, and how people might judge him, if not for his appearance then for his work. And I was taken by the very idea that, no matter what crisis occurs, there is somebody, somewhere, who has the appropriate tools and settles it.‎ ‎【文章大意】 本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。 And I was taken by the very idea that, no matter what crisis occurs, there is somebody, somewhere, who has the appropriate tools and settles it.(最后一段最后一句)‎ 分析:that引导同位语从句;no matter what引导让步状语从句;who引导非限制性定语从句,修饰前面的代词somebody。 ‎ ‎4.What do we know about Steve?‎ A.He wears neat and new clothes.‎ B.He is quite confident of his skills.‎ C.He always complains about his job.‎ D.He hesitates to accept the repair work.‎ 答案与解析:B 考查推理判断。由第二段“Steve looked at me as if responding to my lack of faith. With a cheerful shrug that suggested my crisis was all in a day's work for him, he said, ‎ ‎‘Sure’.” B。‎ ‎5.What did Steve think of the author's crisis?‎ A.It's a great challenge. B.It's beyond his ability.‎ C.It's a part of his routine. D.It's none of his business.‎ 答案与解析:C 考查推理判断。由第一段“I made the call, expecting the man at the other end of the line to complain about such an awful job. Instead, he simply asked, ‘The address?’”以及下文的“With a cheerful shrug that suggested my crisis was all in a day's work for him”可知,作者眼中的危机,在Steve看来,只是他日常工作的一部分,故选C。‎ ‎6.Why did the author leave home during the repairs?‎ A.He liked to take his time riding outside.‎ B.He drove to turn to his friends for help.‎ C.He was afraid of being looked down upon.‎ D.He was unwilling to face the embarrassing situation.‎ 答案与解析:D 考查细节理解。由第四段“I did not want to watch the digging of my property unfold and went into town to visit some friends.” D。‎ ‎7.What can be inferred from the text?‎ A.Action speaks louder than words.‎ B.God helps those who help themselves.‎ C.Every profession produces its top experts.‎ D.Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.‎ 答案与解析:C 考查推理判断。由最后一段“And I was taken by the very idea that, no matter what crisis occurs, there is somebody, somewhere, who has the appropriate tools and settles it.” ‎ C ‎[2019·绵阳市高中诊断性考试]‎ We are what we eat. That is an old expression, but one worth knowing. A recent look at diets around the world shows that people who eat healthy food — and not too much of it — live longer. But ‎ which areas of the world have the best diets? Researchers found that foods in some of the healthiest diets Mediterranean diet, New Nordic diet, Japanese diet and French diet — may be very different, but they are all heavy on local and seasonal foods, which include more vegetables and seafood and less red meat.‎ Mediterranean diet contains lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and olive oil. The diet has proper amounts of fish and poultry (家禽肉). Red meat and foods high in sugar and salt are not big parts of this diet.‎ New Nordic diet has whole grains like oats and rye, vegetables such as carrots, broccoli and eggs, seafood, fruits, oil, lowfat milk and cheese. Sugary desserts are not common in this diet.‎ Japanese people are some of the longest living people on the planet, with women up to 87 years old and men up to 80. The Japanese diet is the reason for such lengths of life. The diet has many foods that are low in calories and high in nutrients. Japanese people eat a lot of seaweed, tofu, rice, vegetables and fish. The tradition there is to stop eating when your stomach feels 80 percent full.‎ However, French people eat fatty foods but do not get fat. And they live a long time. This phenomenon is called the “French Paradox”. The reason why the French eat fatty foods without getting fat may be simple. They eat less. Serving sizes in French restaurants and of products sold in stores are smaller than those in most countries. And generally speaking, most French people do not snack. This means they do not eat food between meals.‎ ‎【文章大意】 本文介绍了世界上四种最健康的饮食。 A recent look at diets around the world shows that people who eat healthy food — and not too much of it — live longer.‎ 分析:本句是主从复合句。 ‎ ‎8.What do we know about the healthiest diets around the world?‎ A.They contain abundant calories.‎ B.They tend to be expensive.‎ C.They share certain similarities.‎ D.They reflect popular tastes.‎ 答案与解析:C 考查推理判断。根据第一段中的“may be very different, but they are all heavy on local and seasonal foods, which include more vegetables and seafood and less red meat”可知,尽管有不同之处,但世界上最健康的饮食都使用很多当地的和时令的食物,包括更多的蔬菜和海鲜,更少的红肉。 ‎ ‎9.What is considered as a harmful eating habit in Japanese tradition?‎ A.Going low in calories. B.Eating to the fullest.‎ C.Having much seafood. 根据第四段中的“The tradition there is to stop eating when your stomach feels 80 percent full”可知,日本的传统是吃八成饱。 ‎ ‎10.How does the author develop the central idea in the last 4 paragraphs?‎ A.By building connections.‎ B.By exploring reasons.‎ C.By listing examples.‎ D.By analyzing figures.‎ 答案与解析:C 考查写作手法。 ‎ ‎11.Which can be the most suitable title for the text?‎ A.What is the Healthiest Diet on Earth?‎ B.How Does the Old Expression Serve?‎ C.Why is a Healthy Diet so Important?‎ D.Where Can We Feed Ourselves Well?‎ 答案与解析:A 考查标题判断。 ‎ D ‎[2019·贵阳适应性考试]‎ A “Game of Thrones” themed hotel made just of snow and ice has been finished in Lapland, Finland.
