The school's kindergarten students are staying late today—an hour after classes normally end. The boys and girls are not seeking help with reading skills or mathematics. Instead, they are tasting kale, a vegetable that many of them are eating ‎ 22‎ for the first time.‎ The school's teacher Dionne Hammiel says her students have learned healthy eating habits from the program. She hopes they will keep a healthy diet for the rest of their lives.‎ The program is taught by young people like Karen Davison. She is a member of FoodCorps. The non-profit group gets money from the AmeriCorps National Service Program. Since the beginning of the school year, Ms. Davison has spent each day in this Washington,D.C. classroom. She gives the kindergartners vegetables that many of them have never tasted. She teaches them where their food comes from and how they can choose to eat healthier meals.‎ FoodCorps was set up five years ago. It sends more than 180 young Americans to 500 schools across the United States. The young people teach students about nutrition and how they can eat healthy food both at school and at home. FoodCorps also works with other groups to plant vegetable gardens in schools and bring healthier food to stores—especially stores in cities. Many small urban stores often sell only packaged food.‎ Maddie Morales is a member of FoodCorps. She says the group's work is especially important in the fight against childhood obesity—when a child has too much body fat. She notes that the child obesity rate in the United States is twice what it was 30 years ago.‎ 语篇解读:本文介绍了FoodCorps正在做的一个教孩子们健康饮食的项目。‎ ‎1.Why are the school's kindergarten students staying late?‎ A.They are attending extra classes.‎ B.They are learning about eating healthily.‎ C.They are learning how to pick out fresh vegetables.‎ D.They are being punished because of their poor performance.‎ ‎[解析] 细节理解题。由第一段“Instead, they are tasting kale... the first time.”和第二段第一句“The school's teacher Dionne Hammiel says... habits from the program.” ‎ ‎[答案] B ‎2.What do we know about FoodCorps?‎ A.It makes money by selling healthy food.‎ B.It helps a lot in fighting against childhood obesity.‎ C.It teaches students how to plant healthy vegetables.‎ 22‎ D.It aims at introducing rare vegetables across the United States.‎ ‎[解析] 细节理解题。由最后一段“She says the group's work is especially important in the fight against childhood obesity...” ‎ ‎[答案] B ‎3.What can we infer from the text?‎ A.Food sold in city stores is usually unhealthy.‎ B.Most of the children in the program are overweight.‎ C.Compared with healthy food, packaged food is cheaper.‎ D.The problem of overweight is getting worse in the United States.‎ ‎[解析] 推理判断题。由最后一段“She notes that the child obesity rate in the United States is twice what it was 30 years ago.” ‎ ‎[答案] D B ‎(2018·山东部分重点中学第一次联考)‎ If you followed the 2016 Olympic Games, you may have noticed that several athletes, including US swimmer Michael Phelps, had circular bruises on their bodies. These bruises were the result of “cupping(拔火罐) therapy”, a traditional Chinese medicinal practice that has been around for more than 2,000 years.‎ Many athletes say that they have benefited from the therapy. Phelps used the therapy in the fall of 2014 and has used it about twice a week since, reported ABC News. Another US swimmer, Dana Vollmer, also believes that “it really helps with blood flow”.‎ However, some have said that the supposed health effects result from people's feeling that the treatment works, rather than any physical effect of the treatment.‎ To figure out cupping therapy has any physical effect, last year researchers from Germany carried out a test in which a false treatment was provided.‎ 22‎ In the study, the same type of cups was used in the real treatment and the false treatment. But in the false treatment, the cups had a hole at the top so that they couldn't create the proper suction(吸力).‎ The tested patients, who suffered from a disorder that caused a lot of pain, were told that they would receive either a traditional cupping or “soft cupping”. But they were not informed that the so-called “soft cupping” was a false treatment.‎ It turned out that most patients correctly guessed which kind of cupping they had received. In both groups, patients also experienced about the same reductions in pain. “The results suggest the effects of cupping therapy might come from factors that are not necessarily part of the treatment itself,” the researchers told the Live Science website.‎ The question of whether cupping therapy works still needs to be answered. “But because the treatment is relatively safe and it could be helpful for some people, the therapy can be used as part of a comprehensive treatment program involving other exercises, nutritional choices and lifestyle changing,” Dr. Brent Bauer, director of the US Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program at Mayo Clinic, told Live Science.‎ 语篇解读:里约奥运会让中医传统疗法——拔火罐一夜走红。 ‎ ‎4.Why is Michael Phelps mentioned in the passage?‎ A.To give athletes a new way to swim faster.‎ B.To provide athletes with a new way of treatment.‎ C.To introduce the topic on cupping therapy.‎ D.To show swimmers suffer from disorders.‎ ‎[解析] 推理判断题。 ‎ ‎[答案] C ‎5.The purpose of the test by researchers from Germany was to ________.‎ A.promote the health effects of cupping therapy B.see whether cupping therapy has a physical effect C.compare traditional cupping with the soft cupping D.compare cupping therapy's effects on different groups of people ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据第四段“To figure out cupping therapy has any physical effect, last year researchers from Germany carried out a test in which a 22‎ ‎ false treatment was provided.” ‎ ‎[答案] B ‎6.What can be learned from the passage?‎ A.Different people need different types of cupping therapy.‎ B.The real treatment and false treatment almost have the same effects.‎ C.The results show that cupping therapy is not part of the treatment.‎ D.Cupping therapy is only effective when used with lifestyle changing.‎ ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段的“In both groups, patients also experienced about the same reductions in pain.” ‎ ‎[答案] B ‎7.According to Dr. Brent Bauer, cupping therapy ________.‎ A.is a fast and easy treatment for people to carry out B.is a newly invented way to cure some diseases C.needs a long period of time to take effect D.can be used together with other treatments ‎[解析] 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“But because the treatment... involving other exercises, nutritional choices and lifestyle changing”可知,Dr. ‎ ‎[答案] D C Average humans can consume 15 or more drinks in plastic bottles a month. If you were born after 1978, and live until 80 years old, you will leave behind a minimum of 14,400 plastic bottles on this planet. These bottles take hundreds of years to break down into tiny pieces of plastic, never to completely disappear. Most of the waste is consumed by fish and birds, which has shortened their lifespans(寿命) greatly.‎ The PlasticBottleVillage is just a great idea that might finally save us from being buried in plastic. It's a community in Panama that is going to be made of used bottles. The design process begins with building steel frames, which are then filled with these bottles. Once this step is complete, and electrical and plumbing lines are put inside, the plastic walls are covered by concrete—both inside and outside. So no one will actually be able to tell that the walls are made of plastic. Besides, the material will keep the house ‎17℃‎ cooler than the outside, which is the biggest 22‎ ‎ benefit to people living inside.‎ The village is the brainchild(主意) of Robert Bezeau with the intention of setting up several environmental projects. Having started a recycling program four years ago, during which a number of plastic bottles were collected, he started to think of how they could be put to use. Soon enough, he decided to use them to build houses, and came up with a basic idea for the construction process.‎ The project hopes to make people conscious of the waste that these bottles create so that they can do more to protect the environment. The village will also create an education center that will teach individuals from the world how to reuse plastic bottles as construction materials for shelter. Recycled bottles could neutralize the negative effect of your passage on this planet, and move closer to leaving only your “footprints”.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。 ‎ ‎8.What do the figures in the first paragraph show?‎ A.The reason for buying fewer drinks.‎ B.The seriousness of plastic pollution.‎ C.The amount of plastic waste.‎ D.The difficult situation of wildlife.‎ ‎[解析] 推理判断题。 ‎ ‎[答案] B ‎9.Why are the homes in the village special?‎ A.They're green buildings.‎ B.They're ‎17℃‎ warmer inside.‎ C.They stop plastic pollution.‎ D.They're entirely made of plastic bottles.‎ ‎[解析] 推理判断题。 故选A。‎ ‎[答案] A ‎10.Which word can best describe Robert?‎ A.Responsible.
