Unit 1 Cultural relics Ⅰ.语法单句填空 ‎1.Programmes, ________(desigh) to bring the old and the young together, are growing in popularity all over the world.‎ 答案:designed 考查design的非谓语动词形式。 ‎ ‎2.Teenagers shouldn't ________(remove) from school although they don't do well in studies.‎ 答案:be removed 句意:尽管他们学习不好,也不应该把青少年开除。remove... from school“把某人从学校开除”。‎ ‎3.—What do you think of the book?‎ ‎—Oh, excellent. It is worth ________(read) a second time.‎ 答案:reading 句意:——你认为这本书如何?——喔,不错! ‎ ‎4.________(search) the website of the Fire Department in your city, and you will learn a lot about fire fighting.‎ 答案:Search 考查search的非谓语动词形式与“祈使句+and”句型。 ‎ ‎5.—The kindhearted lady is popular with her neighbors, right?‎ ‎—Yes, she is ready to help others without expecting anything ________ return.‎ 答案:in 考查介词。 ‎ ‎6.—Do you need any help, Lucy?‎ ‎—Yes. The job is ________ than I could do myself.‎ 答案:more 考查短语意义。 more than“超出;胜过”。‎ ‎7.Visitors are often very ________(amaze) to hear about the ________(amaze) love story in Lijiang.‎ 答案:amazed;amazing 考查形容词词义。第一空用amazed(惊异的,惊奇的)来描述人(visitors);第二空用amazing(令人吃惊的)来描述物(love story)。‎ ‎8.The boy didn't go home all night, ________ made his parents worried.‎ 答案:which 考查关系词的选择。 ‎ ‎9.As a comic (小品演员), Mr. Zhao is always ________(high) thought of by the audience all over the country.‎ 答案:highly 句意:作为一名小品演员,赵先生总是得到全国观众的高度评价。think highly of“对……评价高”,此处用其被动语态。‎ ‎10.I never doubted________you could succeed in setting a new world record.‎ 答案:that 考查宾语从句连接词。 There is no doubt that...“毫无疑问……”。‎ Ⅱ.阅读理解 Stonehenge(巨石阵)may have been a prehistoric health center rather than a site for observing stars or a temple in honor of the dead, scientists said yesterday. New evidence unearthed at the World Heritage Site in more than 40 years suggests that the monument was a place where the diseased and injured went in groups, seeking cures.‎ After a twoweek dig, scientists have concluded that Stonehenge was “the ancient healthcare centre of southern England” because of the existence of “bluestones”—the smaller columns of dolerite(辉绿岩)that formed an earlier stone structure.‎ By dating pieces of remains to around 7330BC, Tim Darvill, of Bournemouth‎ ‎University, and Goff Wainwright, of the Society of Amtiquaries have found that huntergatherers were at the site on Salisbury Plain 4,000 years earlier than thought. The first stage of Stonehenge, a round earthwork structure, was built around 3000BC. Professor Wainwright added: “I did not expect the degree of complexity we discovered. We're able to say so much more about when Stonehenge was built and why—all of which changes our previous understanding of the monument.”‎ The research reveals the importance of the henge's famous bluestones. Hundreds of bluestone chips gathered at the site have led the team to conclude that the bluestones were valued for their curing effects—the key reason that about 80 of them, each weighing up to 4 tons and a half, were dragged more than 150 miles from the Preseli Hills to Wiltshire. After years of research, Professors Darvill and Wainwright have concluded that, for thousands of years, the Preseli mountain range was home to magical health centers and holy wells.‎ Even today there are those who believe in the curing powers of the springs for coughs and heart disease, and people who use crystals and bluestones for selfcuring. Radiocarbon tests have also revealed that the construction of the original bluestone circle took place around 2300BC, three centuries later than originally thought. Interestingly, on the same day died the “Amesbury Archer”—a sick traveler from the Swiss or German Alps who had an infected knee—whose remains were discovered about five miles from Stonehenge. The professors believe that he was a devoted religious person who was hoping to benefit from the curing powers of the monument.‎ 文章大意:巨石阵研究又出新结果。 ‎ ‎1.Stonehenge is recently believed to be a place for people________.‎ A.to recover from poor health B.to observe star movements C.to hold religious ceremonies D.to gather huge bluestones 答案:A 细节理解题。由第一段第一句话“Stonehenge(巨石阵)may have been a prehistoric health center”可知。‎ ‎2.What can be inferred about Stonehenge from the passage?‎ A.The springs could cure coughs and heart disease best.‎ B.The new discovery was the same as what had been expected.‎ C.Some huge bluestones were not produced at Stonehenge.‎ D.The original bluestone circle was thought to be constructed around 2000BC.‎ 答案:C 推理判断题。 ‎ ‎3.The sick traveler in the passage is supposed to be______.‎ A.a devoted religious person from ‎Stonehenge B.one of the earliest discoverers of ‎Stonehenge C.the first explorer to test the magical power of bluestones D.a patient trying to cure his infection at ‎Stonehenge 答案:D 细节理解题。由最后一段最后一句话“...he was a devoted religious person who was hoping to benefit from the curing powers of the monument.”可知。‎ ‎4.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?‎ A.Stonehenge: A New Place of Interest B.Stonehenge: Still Making News C.Stonehenge: Heaven for Adventurers D.Stonehenge: Still Curing Patients 答案:B 主旨大意题。 ‎ Ⅲ.七选五 ‎(2013·吉林市期末)‎ The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we've never been before.‎ But just as in facetoface communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line. __1__ Imagine how you'd feel if you were in the other person's shoes.‎ For anything you're about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person's face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. __2__‎ If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. So I want to tell you something about the problems caused by it.‎ I consider the problems more and more serious for the following reasons. First of all, as is known to us, pets make too much noise that trouble residents a lot. What's more, it's widely accepted that animal wastes pollute the environment, which makes people quite uncomfortable. Many owners like taking their pets to public places where they may frighten children or even sometimes bite people. The most important is that pets can spread some disease and this has attracted much attention.‎ Taking all these factors into consideration, I sincerely hope that I can get help from you and expect the media to do something for it.‎ Yours truly,‎ Zhanghua
