Dear Dick,
How nice to hear from you again.
I’d like to tell you something about the changes that have taken place in my studies. Before the learning burden was reduced, I used to have classes at weekends and do endless homework till 11: 30 at night. I was exhausted as most of Chinese students were.
Things have changed now, however. With less learning burden, I have much more time to do other things such as visiting museums, attending computer classes, and learning drawing. In the evening, I read books and newspapers and watch TV. Although I do not have so many classes and so much homework compared with the past, I have learned much more, which are never taught in textbooks.
In short, I am quite satisfied with my life now.
Best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Dear editor,
During the National Day holiday, I went on a tour of Huangshan Mountain. During my trip I was deeply attracted by the breathtaking scenery—the beautiful pine trees, the strange-looking rocks, the splendid sea of clouds and so on. This could have been a perfect trip but for some tourists’ bad behavior. For example, some people left litter everywhere; others scribbled in some scenic spots. What’s more, I even noticed that there were one or two tourists who were smoking cigarettes! That’s
much too dangerous, for it could easily lead to a forest fire.
As we all know, Huangshan Mountain is world-famous for its beautiful natural sights, which is just what I take great pride in as a native of Huangshan. So we should make every effort to protect its environment and make it more and more beautiful.
Best wishes.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

How to Build an Economized Society
Our government is aiming to build an “economized society”. I think it is every citizen’s duty to work hard to achieve this goal.
Firstly, we know that many restaurants have joined the “clear your plate” campaign against wasting food. We students should do the same in our daily life especially when having dinner with our friends and relatives. It is a virtue for us to do so. Secondly, make sure that the lights and all the other electric facilities are turned off when we finish our work and leave the room. Also it is important to form the habit of turning off the tap after it is used.
In a word, if we pay much attention to our everyday behavior and take action to reduce waste, we can make contributions to an economized society. Let’s work together from now on!
