Braincomputer interface(BCI) technology could help people with disabilities send commands to machines.‎ Recently, two researchers, Jose Millan and Michele Tavella from the Federal Polytechnic School in Lausanne, Switzerland, demonstrated(展示)a small robotic wheelchair directed by a person's thoughts.‎ In the laboratory, Tavella operated the wheelchair just by thinking about moving his left or right hand. He could even talk as he watched the vehicle and guided it with his thoughts.‎ ‎“Our brain has billions of nerve cells. These send signals through the spinal cord (脊髓)to the muscles to give us the ability to move. But spinal cord injuries or other conditions can prevent these weak electrical signals from reaching the muscles,” Tavella says. “Our system allows disabled people to communicate with external world and also to control devices.”‎ The researchers designed a special cap for the user. This head cover picks up the signals from the scalp(头皮) and sends them to a computer. The computer interprets the signals and commands the motorized wheelchair. The wheelchair also has two cameras that identify objects in its path. They help the computer react to commands from the brain. ‎ Prof. Millan, the team leader, says scientists keep improving the computer software that interprets brain signals and turns them into simple commands. “The practical possibilities that BCI technology offers to disabled people can be grouped in two categories: communication, and controlling devices. One example is this wheelchair.”‎ He says his team has set two goals. One is testing with real patients, so as to prove that this is a technology they can benefit from. And the other is to guarantee ‎ that they can use the technology over long periods of time.‎ 本文讲述了科学家正在寻找把大脑与电脑连系起来的方法,从而帮助残疾人。 ‎ ‎12.BCI is a technology that can ________.‎ A. help to update computer systems B. link the human brain with computers C. help the disabled to recover D. control a person's thoughts ‎ 答案:B。 ‎ ‎13. How did Tavella operate the wheelchair in the laboratory? ‎ A. By controlling his muscles. B. By talking to the machine. ‎ C. By moving his hand. D. By using his mind.‎ 答案:D。 ‎ ‎14. Which of the following shows the path of the signals described in Paragraph 5?‎ A. scalp→computer→cap→wheelchair B. computer→cap→scalp→wheelchair C. scalp→cap→computer→wheelchair D. cap→computer→scalp→wheelchair 答案:C。 ‎ ‎15. The team will test with real patients to ________.‎ A. make profits from them B. prove the technology useful to them C. make them live longer 2D. learn about their physical condition 答案:B。 ‎ ‎16. Which of the following would be the best title for the text?‎ A. Switzerland, the ‎BCI‎ Research ‎Center B. New Findings about How the Human Brain Works C. BCI Could Mean More Freedom for the Disabled D. Robotic Vehicles Could Help to Cure Brain Injuries 答案:C。 ‎ 阅读理解----- (2011·福建卷,E)‎ The internet will open up new vistas (前景),create the global village—you can make new friends all around the world. That,at least, is what it promised us.The difficulty is thatit did not take the human mind into account. The reality is that we can not keep relationship with more than a limited number of people. No matter how hard the internet tries to putyou in communication, its best efforts will be defeated by your mind.‎ The problem is twofold(双重的).First, there is a limit on the number of people we can hold in mind and have a meaningful relationship with. That number is about 150 and is set by the size of our brain.Second, the quality of your relationships depends on the amount of time you invest (投入) in them.We invest a lot in a small number of people and then distribute what's left among as many others as we can.The problem is that if we invest little time in a person, our engagement with that person will decline (减弱)until eventually it dies into “someone I once knew”.‎ This is not, of course, to say that the internet doesn't serve a socially valuable function.Of course it does. But the question is not that it allows you to increase the size of your social circle to include the rest of the world, but that you can keep your relationships with your existing friends going even though you have to move to the other side of the world.‎ In one sense, that's a good thing. But it also has a disadvantage. If you continue to invest in your old friends even though you can no longer see them, then certainly you aren't using your time to make new friends where you now live. And I suspect that probably isn't the best use of your time.Meaningful relationships are about being able to communicate with each other, face to face. The internet will slow down the rate with which relationships end, but it won't stop that happening eventually.‎ 一般认为网络在让人与人交流方面起到了非常重要的作用。 ‎ ‎17.What is stressed in the first paragraph?‎ A.The present situation of the internet.‎ B.The difficulty in communication on the internet.‎ C.The socially valuable function of the internet.‎ D.The role of the human mind in the internet communication.‎ 答案:D。 由文章第一段特别是最后一句“No matter how hard the internet tries to put you in communication, its best efforts will be defeated by your mind.” ‎ ‎18.The underlined word “engagement” in the second paragraph probably means “______”.‎ A.appointment B.connection C.interview D.agreement 答案:B。 ‎ ‎19.According to the passage, the author holds the view that______.‎ A.the internet fails to play so valuable a role in communication as it promised B.the internet determines the quality of social relationships C.the internet greatly increases the size of social circles D.the internet communication is no less effective than the facetoface talk 答案:A。 由文章的一些信息“This is not ,of course,to say that the internet doesn't serve a socially valuable function.以及The internet will slow down the rate with which relationships end,but it won't stop that happening eventually.” ‎ ‎20.What is the author's attitude towards the use of the internet to strengthen relationships?‎ A.He is uncertain about it. B.He is hopeful of it.‎ C.He approves of it. D.He doubts it.‎ 答案:D。 ‎ ‎ [文化教育型阅读理解(二)]------C As computers become more popular in China, Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes(笔画)of each Chinese character when writing on paper. Experts suggest people, especially students, write ‎ by hand more.‎ Do you write by hand more or type more? In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as the primary school. And computer dependence is more widespread among university students. Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer.‎ All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer. ‎ It's faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that's why computers are being applied more and more often to modern education. But when people are taking_stock_in computers increasingly, problems appear. ‎ ‎“When I'm writing with a pen, I find I often can't remember how to write a character, though I feel I'm familiar with it.”‎ ‎“I'm not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper.”‎ Many students don't feel this is something to worry about. Now that it's more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite? ‎ Many educators think differently. Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said,“Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(审美的) value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer's emotion. Through one's handwriting, people can get to know one's thinking and personality. Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them.”‎ To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory(必修的)and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.‎ ‎1. Which of the following can best serve as the title of the passage?‎ A.The importance of handwriting and typing B.To type or to handwrite?‎ C.Writing by computer will replace writing by hand D.Practical and aesthetic value of Chinese characters ‎2. The students interviewed prefer to write using a computer mainly ‎ because________.‎ A.they are usually asked to email their homework and essays B.they can correct the mistakes they make quickly and conveniently C.they find it not easy to remember how to write a character D.computers have become a trend and fashion in ‎China ‎3. Which of the following statements is NOT true of the advantages of handwriting?‎ A.Handwriting contains the writer's emotion.‎ B.The writer's thinking and personality are shown in his or her handwriting.‎ C.Handwriting can impress people well and build one's selfconfidence.‎ D.Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic value. ‎ ‎4. The underlined expression “taking stock in”(Paragraph 4) probably means “________”.‎ A.getting bored with B.getting dependent on C.becoming crazy about D.getting curious about ‎5. We can draw the conclusion from the passage that________.‎ A.more and more students will give up writing on a computer B.writing by hand will give way to typing by computer one day C.more and more students will pay attention to handwriting D.the typing article better expresses one's emotion and quality ‎【参考答案解析】C ‎【要点综述】 全文围绕我们学生是应依靠电脑还是应依靠手来写作业展开叙述。 ‎ ‎2.B 由第四段“It's faster and easier to correct if using a computer.”和第七段 “Now that it's more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite? ”可知学生依赖电脑是因为电脑方便、快捷、修改容易。‎ ‎3.C 由倒数第二段中 “Beautiful writing will give people a better first ‎ impression of them.” ‎
