Some post-80s graduates have given up the dream of working in a big city, and heading back home has become part of future job consideration. Two of the more common ones are trying to avoid the intense competition and the pressure, and seeing unprecedented opportunities in the growing economies back home.
Changping. a 22-year-old student from Hainan University, said that if he would decide on starting his business, he’d certainly return to his hometown, Xiangfan ,in Hubei Province. That was because he has his own network of people who could help him in every way. Also, he could get some good business ideas like setting up advanced kindergartens in small cities. If no one was doing that, the chance of being successful seemed higher.
But Chen Haihua ,a college student from Guangzhou Medical College, said that she would plan to stick to a big city, Guangzhou, instead of going back to her hometown, Zhanjiang, in Guangdong Province. She wanted to struggle in the big city for a more exciting, better life. She explained that she also could be a role model, letting the kids in her hometown work hard Io go to key universities.

试卷答案
1.
Too Much Care Spoils a Child
As is shown in the picture above, the plant is being destroyed by overwatering. What the picture suggests to us is that too much care spoils a child. As a famous Chinese saying goes "Spare the rod, spoil the child". To keep us away from the necessary hardships in our childhood, our parents tend to offer us too much care. For example, making beds, washing clothes and even carrying school bags for us. They are doing all they can without knowing that they are actually spoiling us. As children, what we really need is to experience difficulties and take challenges.
So love me, teach me and show me, but not spoil me. Only in this way can we become stronger to shoulder our due responsibilities.
2.
Dear fellow students,
I am Li Hua from Class One Senior Three and I’m so pleased to share my dream with you here. My dream is to be a scientist in space exploration. As is known to all, space is to be explored and known to us human beings, so more and more countries are trying their best to have a hand in it because space research can demonstrate a nation’s power and prosperity.
To realize my dream, I firstly should focus on the science courses at school so that I can establish a sound foundation for my further study. Secondly, what I should do is read widely about the recent findings about space to get better preparation about my field. Of course I would choose space research as my major in my favorite university and spare no effort to realize it.
That’s all. Thank you.
3.
In the picture, two hunters are arguing about the way to have their game cooked, but anyhow, they are ignoring that their chance is flying away. How foolish they both are. In our daily life, we on occasion encounter the same situation. What we are focusing on is not the way to accomplish the task, but only the achievement yet to be obtained, which surely wastes our chances and energy without any actual result of our effort. So we must try to avoid such kind of things happening in our life.
4.
In America, to help students develop social skills, schools offer a large number of after-school activities, in other words, activities that take place outside classroom lessons. By taking part in after-school activities, students show their special talents, their ability to lead, and their ability to get on with others. Competitive sports are very popular among students. Young people are encouraged to take part in team sports since the games teach them to have the “winning spirit”.
5.
Hello Peter! How are you going these days?
In order to provide us students with an opportunity to exchange books and make better use of used books, our Student Union held a campus book fair on the afternoon of February 15,2012.
At the book fair, students could sell unwanted books, buy needed books or simply trade books with each other. Like other fairs of this kind, prices were typically very low. Happily, I not only got rid of several books but also bought a few books I really wanted.
As far as I’m concerned, I like this activity, which is beneficial to us students.
On the one hand, I felt my social skills had been well practiced and improved. On the other hand, this activity also gave us an excellent opportunity to feel a bit of the real world. I wish more events like this book fair would be held in our school.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Love,
Li Hua
6.
Post-80s graduates hold different views towards job choices. Some, like Changping, will head back home to avoid the competition and pressure in big cities, while others, like Chen haihua, would prefer to stay in big cities to seek a better job.
Working in a big city is of course an exciting thing, which means better opportunities and more conveniences. It’s easier to find a well-paid job or a better platform to improve oneself. While in a small town, where there are not so many elites to compete with, one can easily avoid the pressure from fierce competition in big cities to live a rather cosy life.
As for me, a girl from a remote village, I would rather struggle in a big city like Shenzhen to make a living than go back to my hometown. Though hard, struggling itself may gain me enough experience of doing business.
Therefore, after graduation, I will choose a big city as the start of my career. Thanks to the intense competition, I can grow into an experienced and competitive person, which does good to my later development.
