As a nation of animal lovers, Britain has been rocked by a study that at least ten million pets suffer mental or physical stress.
Two million dogs are left alone daily for longer than recommended and 750,000 rabbits are fed too little grass, at least three million dogs and cats have never been vaccinated, the research indicates. Shocked animal welfare campaigners are calling on owners to give their pets urgent attention.
A spokesman for animal charity said, “We know that owners love their pets, but many do not understand what their pets need.”
The charity’s survey is the first to measure the well-being of Britain’s 12 million cats, eight mill dogs 1.7 million pet rabbits. It found that five million cats, four million dogs and more than 700000 rabbits would be suffering mental or physical stress because their owners do not look after them properly. About 2.4 million dogs are mainly fed on leftovers, rather than nutritionally balanced dog food.
About 1.9 million dogs are left alone each day for more that four hours, even though vets say four hours should be the maximum. Around 15 percent of owners believe it is acceptable to leave a doe for eight hours without attention while four per cent say dogs can be abandoned for more than ten hours without suffering.
The survey also revealed the Britain’s cats are overfed, with more than half of owners admitting their cats are overweight. Rabbits are also neglected. In the wild they live in large groups, but 67 percent of pet rabbits live on their own, which creates the risk of boredom and stress.
Another spokesman said, “Our report reveals that there is much work to do to raise awareness of what pets need to live healthy and happy lives.”
21. The author has written this article to .
A. explain what pets should eat to keep healthy

D. pet rabbits living together creates the risk of boredom and stress.
23. You can read this article in a .
A. Biology textbook B. health magazine
C. newspaper advertisement D. book review
Shocked animal welfare campaigners are calling on owners to give their pets urgent attention.和最后一段 there is much work to do to raise awareness of what pets need to live healthy and happy lives可看出作者目的是想呼吁大家好好照顾自己的宠物。
About 2.4 million dogs are mainly fed on leftovers, rather than nutritionally balanced dog food. Britain’s cats are overfed, with more than half of owners admitting their cats are overweight. 从倒数第二段but 67 percent of pet rabbits live on their own, which creates the risk of boredom and stress.

Whenever something looks interesting or beautiful, there is a natural desire of us to capture and preserve it-which means, in thins day and age, that we are likely to reach for our phones to take a picture.
Though this would seem to be an ideal solution, there are two big problems associated with taking pictures. Firstly, we are likely to be so busy taking pictures that we forget to look a t the world whose hearty and interest encourage us to take a photograph in the first place. And secondly, because we feel the pictures are safely stored on our phones, we never get around to looking at them, so sure are we that we’ll get around to them one day.
The first person to notice the problems was the English art critic, John Ruskin. He was a keen traveler who realized that most tourists make a poor job of noticing or remembering the beautiful things they see. He argued that humans have a natural tendency to respond to beauty and desire to have it, but there are better and worse expressions of this desire. At worse, we get into buying
souvenirs or taking photographs. But, in Ruskin’s eyes, there’s just one thing we should do-attempting to draw the interesting things we see, regardless of whether we happen to have any talent for doing so.
Ruskin said, “Drawing can teach us to see: to notice properly rather than gaze absent-mindedly. In the process of recreating with our own hand what lies before our eyes, we naturally move from a position of observing beauty in a loose way to one where we acquire a deep understanding of its parts.”
Ruskin deplored the blindness and hurry of modem tourists, especially those who prided themselves on travelling around the whole Europe in a week by train, “No, changing of places at a hundred mile an hour will make us stronger, happier. Or wiser. There was always more in the world than men could see, if they ever walked slowly; they will see it no better for going fast. The really precious things are thoughts and sights, not pace.”
24. According to Paragraph 2, when taking pictures, people tend to .
A. find it hard to learn skills of taking good pictures
B. find a good way to keep things in their minds
C. forget to appreciate something attractive on the spot
D. have a chance to meet the challenge of new technology
25. According to Ruskin, what should travelers do to best express their appreciation of and desire for something beautiful?
A. To speak in out openly. B. To paint it immediately.
C. To purchase it directly. D. To photograph it instantly.
26. From the fourth paragraph, we can infer that Ruskin encourages us to e .
A. creative and thoughtful B. active and adventurous
C. considerate and determined D. sensitive and ambitious
27. The underlined word “deplored” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to .
A. appreciated B. favored C. criticized D. ignored
根据关键词”tend to”定位文章第二段,从 we are likely to be so busy taking pictures that we forget to look at the world 可以看出,人们为了照相,都忘了欣赏身边的美景,答案C符合。
But, in Ruskin’s eyes, there’s just one thing we should do-attempting to draw the interesting things we see...
26.答案:A。 定位第四段,从recreating with our own hand以及deep understanding可以看出,选项A符合,其中thoughtful(深思熟虑的)是对deep understanding的同义替换。

Failure is probably the most exhausting experience a person ever has. There is nothing more tiring than not succeeding.
We experience this tiredness in two ways; as start-up fatigue(疲惫) and performance fatigue. In the former case, we keep putting off a task because it has either too boring or too difficult. And the longer we delay it, the more tired we feel.
Such start-up fatigue is very real, even if not actually physical, not something in our muscles and bones. The solution is obvious though perhaps not easy to apply; always handle the most difficult job first.
Years ago, I was asked to write 102 essays on the great ideas of some famous authors. Applying my own rule, I determined to write them in alphabetical, never letting myself leave out a tough idea. And I always started the day’s work with the difficult task of essay-writing. Experience proved that the rule works.
Performance fatigue is more difficult to handle. Though willing to get started, we cannot seem to do the job right. Its difficulties appear so great that, however hard we work, we fail again and again. In such a situation, I work as hard as I can-then let the unconscious take over.
When planning Encyclopedia Britannica (《大英百科全书》), I had to create a table of contents based on the topics of its articles. Nothing like this had ever been done before, and day after
day I kept coming up with solutions, but none of them worked. My fatigue became almost unbearable.
One day, mentally exhausted, I wrote down all the reasons why this problem could not be solved. I tried to convince myself that the trouble was with the problem itself, not with me. Received, I sat back in a easy chair and fell asleep.
An hour later, I woke up suddenly with the solution clearly in mind. In the weeks that followed, the solution which had come up in my unconscious mind provided correct at every step. Though I worked as hard as before, I felt no fatigue. Success was now as exciting as failure had been depressing.
Human beings ,I believe, must try to succeed. Success, then means never feeling tried.
28. People with start-up fatigue are most likely to .
A. work hard B. delay tasks C. seek help D. accept failure
29. What does the author recommend doing to prevent start-up fatigue?
A. Dealing with the hardest task first.
B. Building up physical strength.
C. Leaving out the toughest ideas.
D. Writing essays in strict order.
30. On what occasion does a person probably suffer from performance fatigue?
A. When all the solutions fail.
B. Before starting a difficult task.
C. If the job is rather boring.
D. After finding a way out.
31. What could be the bet title for the passage?
A. Success Is Built upon Failure
B. Getting over Fatigue: A way to Success
C. How to Handle Performance Fatigue
D. Fatigue: An Early Sign of Health Problems
In the former case, we keep putting off a task 可以看出,start-up fatigue和推迟任务有关,选项B符合。
29.答案:A。 The solution is obvious though perhaps not easy to apply:always handle the most difficult job first.答案A中hardest是对 the most difficult的同义替换。故A正确。
30.答案:A。 Its difficulties appear so great that, however hard we work, we fail again and again.

从a maximum of 4 hours per person per day可知A选项错误;由A scanner is provided for use with the assistive software packages(提供一个带有辅助软件包的扫描仪)可知B选项正确,assistive(为残疾人设计的)和disability(残疾)对应;LED screen和Whiteboard pens是上一部分提到的,故选项CD错。

Dear Mr. Smith,
I am very exciting to leam that we are going to start a magazine together. It is indeed a wonderful idea and everyone hopes its success.
I would like a magazine to have three columns: News, Teachers’ Advice or Students’ vice. From the News column, we can learn about what was going on in both of our schools. In Teachers’ Advice, our teachers can give us such help that we may not be able to get in the classroom. Students’ Voice will allow you to free express our thoughts and feelings about our life and study.
I believe that this magazine will surely strengthen between our relationship, and I am looking forward to read it.
Yours Faithfully

exciting “令人兴奋的”,excited “兴奋的,感到兴奋的”。
2.在hope 后加for。
3. a 改为the.
4. or 改为and.
5. was 改为is .
6. that 改为as.
7.you改为us.
9.划掉between.
look forward to sth./ doing sth.
