2、 Regardless of how far we’d like to believe gender(性别) equality in the workplace has come, there’s still a yawning gap between male and female leaders in the professional world. A 2018 statistic shows that women nowadays hold just 5.8 percent of CEOs positions at S&P 500 companies, according to Catalyst.
While it’s not a huge shock that women are somewhat underrepresented in leadership positions, what is surprising though, is the fact that females may actually be better suited to lead in almost every area, at least according to new findings from the BI Norwegian Business School.
In their research, Professor Martinsen and Professor Lars Glas surveyed (调查) 2,900 managers with a special focus on personality types. The results were clear: Women scored higher than men in four of the five major leadership-centric categories.
While some people believe that men inherently make better leaders — probably because they picture a leader with a commanding voice, which is more typical of men than women — this piece of research suggests that women are better at methodical management and goal-setting, openness, sociability and supportiveness, as well as ability to communicate clearly.
There was one area in which men scored higher than women, though, and that was on emotional stability and ability to face job-related pressure and stress. The results suggest that women are more sensitive to the effects of high-pressure or highly emotional situations.
Obviously, it’s important to consider individual(个人的) differences. Anyone, regardless of gender, may be an inspiring leader and a competent boss. So next time you’re hiring for a management position, you just might want to give the resumes(简历) from female candidates a harder look.
1.What makes us shocked much at leadership positions?
A.Women are worse than men.
B.Men take almost all high positions.

3、 The Australian beach town of Byron Bay has a traffic problem, especially during holidays, when local streets are full of cars. But now it’s changed. The world’s first fully solar-powered train runs on a restored(修复)train line that was out of use for more than a decade.
The solar systems on the roof of the train send power to a set of batteries that replace one engine; the other engine is still in place and can provide backup power in an emergency. As the train brakes, it generates more electricity, like a hybrid car. At a train station, the train can be plugged in to pull more power from solar systems on the platform roof. If there’s a long period without sun---somewhat unlikely in this part of the world---the train can also plug in to get renewable energy from the local electricity supply.
“The large solar systems on the platform roof coupled with the solar systems on the train roof produce more solar energy per day than is required to operate an hourly return service,” says Holmes, development director of the nonprofit Byron Bay Railroad company, which runs the train. With one full charge, the train can make 12 to 15 trips.
Volunteers fully restored the train to its old condition to attract more riders, which should take more cars off city streets of the beach town. The train fits 100 seated passengers, with room for more to stand, and also has a luggage room for bikes and surfboards. A ride costs a little more than $2.
The nonprofits thinks it’s a model that could be replicated (复制)elsewhere. “Our service has had no government support or funding at all, but for this to be replicated or improved upon, the key is for government to work with enterprises on the program.” Holmes says. “Our service provides an example of how the sun’s energy can be used for sustainable transport solutions.”
1.Why is the solar train brought into use in Byron Bay?
A.To attract visitors
B.To reduce traffic
C.To fight pollution
D.To use solar energy
2.Where does the train get energy on sunless days?
A.From its engines
B.From a hybrid car
C.From the platform
roof
D.From the local electricity supply
3.How does Holmes feel about solar energy equipment?
A.It is labor-saving
B.It is easily operated
C.It is time-consuming
D.It is power guaranteed
4.What can be inferred about the solar-powered train from the last paragraph?
A.It may be popularized in the future
B.More scientific research should be done about it
C.It could be of little use in solving energy problems.
D.Financial support from the government is badly needed
4、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
We know that cigarette smoking kills. So, producers made electronic cigarettes as a safer smoking choice - safer than tobacco. Although e-cigarettes contain the drug nicotine like cigarettes, they do not use tobacco and you do not light them. They are powered by battery (电池).
However, if e-cigarettes are so safe, why has the United States Center for Disease Control(CDC) seen an increase in telephone calls about e-cigarette poisonings?
The answer is children. Most of the calls are from people worried about children who have played with the devices, In the period of one month this year, the Center said 215 people called the Center with e-cigarette concerns. More than half of these calls were for children aged five and younger. The devices had made them sick.
Tim McAfee is director of the Center's Office on Smoking and Health, He says the problem is regulation. Meaning, the U.S. federal government does not control e-cigarettes even though they contain liquid nicotine. Mr.McAfee adds that liquid nicotine is a well-known danger. Mr.McAfee explains that nicotine poisoning happens when it gets into the skin, gets into the eyes or is swallowed. It can cause stomach pain or a sense of unbalance. And too much nicotine can kill.
Tim McAfee says e-cigarettes do not create the level of risk to people that tobacco products do.He notes that almost 500,000 Americans die each year from cigarettes. "So, cigarettes are the winner in that contest." E-cigarettes do not contain hundreds of harmful chemicals that are found
in real cigarettes. So, the U.S.Surgeon General Boris D. Lushniak has suggested that e-cigarettes may be a useful tool for adults trying to end their tobacco use.
But McAfee worries that teenagers may think electronic cigarettes are harmless. They could become addicted to the nicotine and then start smoking real cigarettes. In other words, he fears that for young people fake e-cigarettes could be a "gateway" to the real thing.
1.What do the producers think of e-cigarettes?
A.Dangerous.
B.Expensive.
C.Safer.
D.Cheaper.
2.Why did the CDC receive so many calls about e-cigarettes?
A.Parents feared that their children might get poisoned,
B.Parents found the device useless in quitting smoking.
C.Children swallowed the liquid nicotine from the device.
D.Children might get addicted to playing with the device.
3.It can be inferred from the passage that .
A.the CDC wants to develop a better type of e-cigarettes
B.the government is in favor of the use of e-cigarettes
C.Surgeon General Boris D. Lushniak is a heavy smoker
D.smokers most probably can't quit smoking using e-cigarettes
4.What is Tim McAfee's opinion about smoking?
A.Adults should use harmless e-cigarettes.
B.Smoking e-cigarettes can make a person sick.
C.He claims that regulations should be made to ban smoking.
D.He is concerned about the teens using e-cigarettes.

They told her to stay _____ until the emergency personnel arrived。 A. quiet B. still C. away D. calm根据后文中she should not move,可以判断选B。
2. 词语复现。词语复现指某一个词以原词、同根词、同义词、反义词(如wrong, not correct)、上义词、下义词等方式重复出现在语篇中,语篇中的句子通过这种复现关系达到相互衔接。比如: One more look and he noticed _____ shooting out。 A. flames B. smoke C. water D. steam根据后句中the fire was put out.判断选A。

Dear Tony,
I am extremely sorry to tell you that I’m unable to carry on helping you learn Chinese. Words fail me to show my deep regret.
It is for one year that we have helped each other. I am grateful for your selfless and effective guidance, without which I wouldn’t make such amazing advances in English. However, it won’t be a long time before I am faced with a significant challenge, the College Entrance Examination. With my overall energy devoted to revision, I have no time to surf the Internet. Failure to communicate with you makes me regretful. My hope is that we can learn from each other after the exam.
I would appreciate your understanding and forgiveness. Hoping to study with you online soon.
Best wishes!
Yours truly,
Li Hua
