Dear Mr Smith,
I’m writing to share with you an exciting piece of news that I won the first prize in a
recent English speech contest, for which I sincerely express my gratitude to you.
Last term, not only did I have difficulty in memorizing the numerous words but also
couldn’t grasp the boring English grammar. Thanks to your timely encouragement and
direction, I built up confidence and gradually improved my English, thus leading to my
success in this contest.
I’m convinced that I will go further with your help. Thank you again! Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua

With his strength almost giving
及“Temperatures dropped below zero overnight,… His hands
and feet soon were completely numb.”(在夜间温度降到零度以下……
Richard’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him.”
passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair.”(随着第六辆车绝尘而去,他的心陷入绝
Paragraph 1:
Richard’s dogs had been playing in the field and eventually came up to him. The two
dogs surrounded his body to warm him while barking in anxiety. Richard finally struggled to one
side of the road with the help of his dogs. Despite his exhaustion and painful leg, he still tried to
wave down a driver for fear that he might lose consciousness at any time. He waved wildly and

Paragraph 2:
When the sixth car passed without stopping, his heart sank in despair. However, gleams
of daylight remained—Richard saw the seventh car. Gathering all his strength, he waved his
hands again. Fortunately, this time the car stopped and the driver rolled down the window to ask
him what was wrong. After realizing Richard’s situation, the driver got off, and assisted Richard
onto the back seat with Richard’s dogs. Tears welling up in his eyes, Richard extended his
heartfelt gratitude in a weak voice. Finally, Richard got rescued and cured. Kindness will be late
sometimes, but never miss.

从第一段 raise money for the hospital, 第二段 served to show his
appreciation to the hospital staff以及 trying to help raise funds to ensure that all kids have access
to the same amazing experience as Andrew这些信息可以分析 Codner跑步的目的主要是为了

根据第二段第一、二句话可知,the USSR(the Union of Soviet Socialist
Republics)

根据第二段第四句 flexible working was viewed very positively, improving
both people’s work-life balance and productivity,可知员工们欢迎 flexible working(弹性工作

但 stand in front of the mirror与本段主旨无关。
故选 A项。
Text 1
M: I haven’t been feeling so well since we had dinner. Maybe I should go to see a doctor.
W: Why don’t you lie down for a while? I’ll call the front desk and see if they can call a doctor
for us.
Text 2
W: Good morning, Mr. Smith. Did you sleep well last night after your long trip by train?
M: Good morning. Yes, I did. I feel totally rested and I’m now ready for our meeting.
Text3
M: What are you learning in English class right now?
W:Well, we have to learn the meanings of ten words each week. And we’re reading a
Shakespeare play for the next six weeks.
M: Oh, we learn five more than you.
Text 4
W:Adam said he would come to repair our air conditioner when he has time.
M: He often says he is willing to help, but he never seems to have time.
Text 5
M: Hey, Katherine. Do you know any special ways to listen to lectures better?
W: Well, I like to take notes. But if the topic is difficult, I often record the whole thing. That way,
I can listen to the lecture all over again and take really good notes.
Text 6
M: I’ve been here many times. There are quite a lot of delicious dishes to choose from. What are
you thinking of ordering?
W: Well, I haven’t decided yet. What are you going to order?
M: I think I’ll have the roast chicken. They really make it well here.
W: I had roast chicken yesterday when I ate out with Lucy.
M: Their beef steak is good too. You could have it served with beans and mushrooms.
W: But I’m not that hungry. Is the fried fish or the seafood salad good?
M: Never had them before. Maybe if you get the steak, we can share.
W: That sounds like a good idea.
Text 7
W:What do you need me to help you with, Bob?
M: Our teacher asked us to do a practice job interview.
W: OK. What type of job? Do you want to work in a school, like our dad?
M: No. I want to work at the store and get some sales experience first.
W: OK. First question: Why should I hire you?
M: Well, I am friendly and I am good at math.
W: You might want to give longer answers. Try saying: I am friendly, work well with others, and
I know how to handle money. What about your weaknesses?
M: I don’t have any.
W: You can’t say that. Nobody is perfect.
Text 8
W:Whose is this?
M: It’s mine. Why do you ask?
W: Could I borrow it? I’ve been dying to read it.
M: Be my guest, but I warn you that it’s not as good as they say. (注:be my guest请自便)
W: What’s wrong with it?
M: Well, for one thing the story is too simple and for another, the characters seem more like
paper dolls than people.
W: That’s strange. Usually that author does a good job of descriptions. I’ve read three of his
books and I thought they were all well done.
M: I started to read about his books about four years ago, but he really did worst on this one.
W: What did the comments say?
M: They were all mixed—some good, some bad.
Text 9
W: My phone died again. I need to charge it before we go anywhere.
M: You are never ready, Tina! I am always waiting for you. Every time we’ve got together, you
would be over 30 minutes late!
W: There’s always a good reason, Patrick…
M: Uh, not always! Each time, it’s a different excuse. First, it was your car... then you lost
something… another time it was because you couldn’t find the right shoes… and now your
phone needs to be charged? Come on!
W: Well, I bought the tickets of the concert through an app, and we have to show them on my
phone to get in.
M: OK, look…if we don’t get there soon, we could miss the whole thing. I’ll drive us there and
pay for parking, and you can charge your phone in my car.
Text 10
Good morning. This is Michael Jones here with the 10:00 News Report. Earlier this week, we
heard about Milton, the dog that traveled over 3000 miles to reunite with his family. When the
Johnson family moved from California to New York, they couldn’t find their dog. About a month

later, Milton showed up at their doorstep in New York. We cannot believe how far this dog
traveled! In other news, there’s been an outbreak of car thefts in Orange County this week.
About ten cars have been stolen from outside their owners’ homes since Monday. If you see or
hear anything, please call 911. About ten people found themselves stuck on a roller coaster after
it broke down at the Six Flags theme park on Tuesday in Union City. The victims swung upside
down for around three minutes as staff worked to restart the roller coaster. Fortunately, no one
was hurt. Six Flags has said that they check their rides very seriously, and that this was simply an
unfortunate accident. That’s it for the news. When we come back from an advertisement,
Michelle Smith will be here with the weather report.
