注意事项
动词不定式和句子的主语之间构成逻辑上的动宾关系;若动词不定式为不及物动词,其后必须要加相应的介词。

用法规则
if only意为“要是……就好了,但愿”,常用来表示强烈的愿望和遗憾,它引导的句子要用虚拟语气。if only句式中虚拟语气的三种情况:
(1)表示与将来事实相反的愿望时使用if only sb. would/could do ...
(2)表示与现在事实相反的愿望时使用if only sb. did/were ...
(3)表示与过去事实相反的愿望时使用if only sb. had done sth. ...
注意事项
only if表示“只有……”,引导条件状语从句。only if本身不是一个固定词组,only是副词,用来修饰整个if从句。若其引导的从句置于句首,且与主句之间没有逗号隔开,则主句要用倒装语序。

For the next year or so, I taught in that same schoolhouse. But I sometimes think I learned more from my students than they did from me.
Sometime during that period, I realized that all those things that had seemed so strange or unusual to me no longer did, though I did not get anywhere with the local language, and I returned to the United States a different man. The Lighthouse Project had changed my life forever.
