A team of Warwick University engineers have designed and built a satellite that will be launched about 100 km into space from the Swedish National Space Centre in the spring of 2017.
The student team are not only designing the satellite, but the electronics, communications and sensor systems for it too, all of which they will be building themselves.
These engineering students were selected from multiple undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD student teams from all over Europe to join one of the nine projects that will be taken into space by the European Space Agency rocket next year. In my mind, there is a moving story about a skinny young boy who loved football with all his heart.
Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. But being half the size of the other boys, he got absolutely nowhere. Despite his hard training at all the games, this hopeful athlete sat on the bench and hardly ever played.
This teenager lived alone with his father, and the relationship between the two of them was very special. Even though the son was always on the bench, his father was always in the stands cheering. He never missed a game. This young man was still the smallest of the class when he entered high school. But his father continued to encourage him.
The young man loved football and was determined to try his best at every practice, and perhaps he’d get to play when he became a senior. All through high school he never missed a practice nor a game but remained a benchwarmer. Besides, his faithful father was always in the stands, always with words of encouragement for him. When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a "walk - on". Everyone firmly believed that he could never make the cut, but he did.
The news that he had survived the cut thrilled him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games. This persistent young athlete never missed practice during his four years at college, but actually he never got the real chance to play in a game.
It was at the end of his senior football season that the coach met him with a telegram. The young man read the telegram and he became totally silent. Swallowing hard, he mumbled to the coach," My father died this morning. Is it all right if I miss practice today?" The coach put his arm gently around his shoulder and said," Take the rest of the week off, son. And don't even plan to come back to the game on Saturday. "
Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. In the third quarter, when the team was ten points behind, a silent young man quietly slipped into the empty locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the
sidelines( 直线), the coach and his players were surprised to see their faithful teammate back so soon." Coach,
please let me play. I've just got to play today," said the young man. The coach pretended not to hear him. There was no way he wanted his worst player in this close play - off game. But the young man insisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in. " All right," he said. " You can go in. " Before long, the coach, the players and everyone in the stands could not believe their eyes. This little unknown, who had never played before, was doing everything right. The opposing team could not stop him. He ran, passed, blocked, and tackled like a star, His team began to succeed, The score was soon tied. In the closing seconds of the game, this kid got a pass and ran all the way for the winning touchdown
Finally, after the stands had emptied, the coach noticed that this young man was sitting quietly in the comer

all alone. The coach came to him and said," Kid, you were unbelievably fantastic! Tell me what got into you? How did you do it?"
He looked at the coach, tears in his eyes, and said," Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind?" The young man swallowed hard and forced a smile," Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and l wanted to show him I could make it!"

When a big exam is coming up, you probably feel anxious about any wasted time and want to begin school as soon as you probably can.
But tens of thousands of British high school students will soon be getting up later. They’re taking part in a new experiment by Oxford University to see if later classes can improve their exam results.
Grades 10 students in the UK have to take the nationwide General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exams. They have to pass these exams in order to study more advanced courses, and later apply for universities.
The Oxford University project means that GCSE students from more than 100 schools across England will start school at 10 am, more than one hour later than the current start time (8:50 am).
The project is based on scientific evidence that teenagers are “out of sync” with traditional school hours, the
Telegraph reported. And what they need is more sleep in the morning.
“We know that something funny happens when you’re a teenager, in that(因为) you seem to be out of sync with the world,” said professor Colin Epsie, who is leading the study. “Your parents think it’s because you are lazy
and opinionated(固执己见的)and everything will be OK if you could get to sleep earlier. But science is telling us that teenagers need to sleep more in the mornings.”
Everyone follows a natural cycle of sleep and wakefulness. Biology has decided that teenagers go to sleep around midnight and don’t feel fully awake until 9-10 am, according to scientists. That’s two hours later than adults. And their body clocks stay like this until the age of around 21 for males, and 19 for females.
“Society provides school for learning, but the brain provides sleep. So we are exploring the possibility that if you delay the schools start time until 10 am, that will improve learning performance,” said Epsie.
The results could be positive, based on previous studies.
10
An early study at the UK’s Monkseaton High School in 2009 found that starting an hour later improved grades in core subjects by 19 percent.
The Oxford project is expecting to publish the results in 2018. It’s time to wait and see whether scientists will give us an excuse to get up late.
31.According to the article, students who take part in the Oxford University project .
A. will start school one hour earlier
B. will no longer have to take GCSE exams
C. will perform better academically than those who don’t participate
D. will be guaranteed more sleeping time in the morning
32.The underlined phrase “out of sync” in Paragraph 5 probably means .
A. breaking the habit of doing something
B. getting used to doing something
C. having no idea of something
D. having trouble keeping up with something
33.We can infer from the article that .
A. the Oxford University project is targeted at all British high schools
B. getting up late is a sign of laziness in the eyes of most British parents
C. children and adults have different natural cycles of sleep and wakefulness
D. there is still no scientific evidence that supports a late school start time
34.What is the author’s attitude toward the Oxford University project ?
A Critical B. Optimistic C. Doubtful D. Uninterested
35.What’s the best title of the article ?
A. Wake up late to excel B. It’s never too late to learn
C. The later you get up, the better you’ll learn D. An excuse to get up late

By examining the work habits of over 150 greatest writers and artists and scientists, the researchers including
Standford Professor Jeffrey Preffer found that high achievers like Robert Moses turn out to be all alike:
Busy! Busy!
36 In a study of general managers in industry, John Kotter reported that many of them worked 60 to 65 hours per week-which translates into at least six 10 - hour days. The ability and willingness to work difficult and tiring hours has characterized many powerful figures. Energy and strength provide many advantages to those seeking to build power.
Just Say No!
The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say " no" to almost everything. And that's what gives them the time to accomplish so much. 37 And focus means saying " no" to a lot of distractions(分神) ?
10

Luck is not magical--there is a science to it. Richard Wiseman studied lucky people for his book Luck Factor, and broke down what they do right. 39 By being more outgoing, open to new ideas, following the feeling that something is true, being optimistic, lucky people create possibilities.
Does applying these principles to your life actually work? Wiseman created a "luck school" to test the ideas-and it was a success. In total, 80 percent of people who attended Luck School said that their luck had increased. 40 .
A. Spend enough time to improve your weakness. B. Achievement requires focus.

A week before Earth Days, posters were put up around our school, calling upon us to join the actions for a greener earth.
Our class came up with the idea to make better use of using materials. We had brought to our classroom worn-out clothes, piece of cardboard, and turned those into dolls, handbags, tissue boxes and small vases. That weekend, we went to a nearby neighborhood and gave it away to the people here. All were happy with which they received. We did very well that we were invited to share our idea and experience with all the students of our school.
We are very proudly of ourselves and believe we can do more for the better world.
