An unforgettable experience
My mom used to say that I was born to swim. But the truth is that I didn’t know how to swim until the last year of my primary school!
Mom always said that I could swim in the basin when I was only two months old. I was surprised at the amazing fact. If this was true, then why was I afraid of water? I went to swim every summer, but I didn’t make a little progress. I was worried and blamed myself several times. When I watched people swimming freely, how I wished I had learnt to swim!
The story of how I learnt to swim is dramatic. One hot summer afternoon, my father and I went to the swimming pool to swim. While my father was changing his clothes,
I was roaming along the bank of the pool. Suddenly I heard a voice, “Look out!” and then came a big noise and beautiful splashes. Just when I was admiring the swimmer’s skills, I slipped into the pool! I was so afraid that I shouted at once! But the water kept coming towards me and I drank a lot of it. I was moving upside down and trying to reach the bank. I was struggling very hard to keep my head above the water.
A minute was like a hundred years to me. To my surprise, I was able to keep the style! Just then, my father, saw me and he seemed to be shocked. He then said, “Calm down, just wave your arms and legs like this. Right!” And I got it! I finally learnt to swim! You can’t imagine how happy I was and I wanted to jump for joy!
From this unforgettable experience I learnt that one’s power is unlimited. Sometimes you could show that power in an emergency. If you believe that, you will discover the power lying within yourself and achieve your goals. And one has to stay calm when it’s dangerous. To calm down helps you to think clearly and make the best decision for you. That’s what I have learnt from the experience.

独立主格结构
时间、条件、原因等状语从句的主语如果和主句的主语不相同,此时,从句的简化只能借助于独立主格结构。依据从句本身的主、被动关系,恰当使用to do短语, doing 短语或done短语,并在这些短语前加上to do, doing, done的主语(即逻辑主语),这种结构称为独立主格结构;独立主格结构可以充当时间、条件、原因、伴随等状语。
1. 名词(代词)+现在分词
Night enshrouding the earth, nobody could make out what the dark mass was from a distance.
黑夜笼罩大地,谁也看不清远处黑压压的一片是什么东西。
There being no bus, we had to walk home.
由于没有公共汽车,我们只好走回家。
2. 名词(代词)+过去分词
The workers worked still harder, their living conditions greatly improved.
由于工人们的生活条件大大提高,他们工作得更起劲了。
He was listening attentively in class, his eyes fixed on the blackboard.
他上课专心听讲,眼睛紧盯着黑板。
3. 名词(代词)+不定式
在“名词/代词+动词不定式”结构中,动词不定式和它前面的名词或代词如果存在着逻辑上的主谓关系,动词不定式则用主动的形式;如果是动宾关系,则用被动形式。
The four of us agreed on a division of labor, each to translate a quarter of the book.

4. 名词(代词)+形容词

5. 名词(代词)+副词

注意:独立主格结构介词使用的问题
当介词是in时,其前后的两个名词均不加任何成分(如物主代词或冠词),也不用复数。但 with 的复合结构不受此限制。
A robber burst into the room, knife in hand. ( hand前不能加his) 劫匪手里拿着刀闯进房间。
当表人体部位的词做逻辑主语时,及物动词用现在分词,不及物动词用过去分词。
He lay there, his teeth set, his hands clenched, his eyes looking straight up.
他躺在那儿,牙关紧闭,双拳紧握,两眼直视上方。

3:非谓语动词的主动形式表被动意义
1. 系动词(如look, sound, smell, feel, taste, prove等)要用主动表被动。
2. 英语中有些动词如: open, close, shut, lock, move, read, wash, clean, cook, cut, wear, carry等,当主语是物,且又表示主语的特征和状态时,要用主动形式表被动含义。
3. 不定式to blame用作表语,通常用主动表被动。
4. “主语+be+形容词+to do”结构中的不定式通常要用主动形式表示被动意义。这类形容词常见的有: convenient, comfortable, dangerous, difficult, hard, easy, impossible, interesting, nice, pleasant, safe, tough, unpleasant等。
5. 不定式用于某些动词(如: have, get, want, need等)的宾语后作定语时,如果不定式的逻辑主语是句子的主语,通常用主动形式表示被动意义。若不定式的逻辑主语不是句子的主语,则应用被动式。
6. 在“with+宾语+不定式”结构中,不定式表示将来的动作,且其逻辑主语是句子的主语,该不定式常用主动表被动。
7. be worth后的动名词要用主动表被动。be worthy却不一样,其后常接不定式的被动式或of+动名词的被动式。
8. 表示“需要”的动词need, want, require或动词deserve(“应受,应得,值得”)后的动名词用主动式表被动意义。但这些动词后的动名词若改为不定式则要用被动式表被动。
