How to make friends at a new school
You’re about to start a new school and want to make friends there. What do you do? Here are some tips on how to meet people and make friends at a new school and how to adjust to your new surroundings.
1 There’s nothing that attracts people more than someone who’s secure in who they are and has a fairly positive attitude about life in general and other people’s ideas, too.
Invite others to do things. In a lot of cases, you’ll need to make the first move to find potential friends. Ask some people to share a table at lunch or study hall, ask someone to be your volleyball partner in gym class ... 2
Join some clubs and activities. A new school and a new group of classmates offer great opportunities to explore some new interests. 3 You’re able to meet people who share your interests and are looking forward to making new friends, too.
Have an opinion. Do you want to help the homeless or prevent the destruction of the rainforest? Speak up. Offer your opinions in class. 4 People will remember you in no time and want to talk to you and, most likely, hang out to get to know you better.
Remember people’s names. Do your best to remember other people’s names and interests. 5 Say something like, “I remember you said something really interesting about X yesterday and wanted to talk about it some more, but I’m new here and don’t remember your name yet. Could you remind me what it is?”
A. Be as confident as you can.
B. Smile at people when they look at you.
C. Try out for a school play or sports team.
D. Share your unique viewpoints in conversation.
E. It’s a great conversation starter and it makes you seem friendly.
F. Once you’ve found a few people you like, ask them to eat or have fun after school.
G. More importantly, don’t be afraid to ask people more than once what their names are.

Throughout my schooling, I have met many teachers. 1
Ms. Davis was my 6th grade teacher at Powell Elementary in Jackson, Mississippi. I can remember it as if it were yesterday; I can remember all the stories she would tell the class while she sat on the edge of her desk. 2 During this period of my life, I always kept a scowl (愁容) on my face. One day, she told a story about a friend of hers, who also kept a frown on her face. She said that the only time her
friend would smile was while she was singing and how pretty she was when she smiled. While she told this story, she was looking directly at me. 3 She didn’t fuss (大惊小怪) like others, she simply told a story.
I also remember going on a field trip and the bus not having enough seats for all the children. 4 While in the car, we talked about my home life. She told me that she had once lived in Colorado. I remember wanting to share things in my life with her because she always told us about things in hers.
I felt that Ms. Davis was showing me favoritism, giving me rides, talking about my family. 5 I guess she just had a personal touch that made each one of us feel as if we were her favorite. Thanks a lot, Ms. Davis.
A. Ms. Davis chose me to ride with her.
B. Ms. Davis convinced me that I could run.
C. Her friend had been killed in an accident.
D. The one that stands out the most would be Ms. Davis.
E. From that point on I have been cautious of my expression.
F. There was one particular story I felt she was directing at me.
G. But looking back, she just didn’t do special things for me but for the entire class.

C 1-5 DFEAG D 1-5 ADEFG
根据本空前的Speak up及Offer your opinions及本空后的People will remember you ...
While she told this story, she was looking directly at me可推测,作者认为Davis老师是专门为自己讲那个故事的,故选F项。
4. A。根据本空前的the bus not having enough seats for all the children和本空后的While in the car可推测,因为公共汽车座位不够了,所以“Davis老师让我跟她一起坐小汽车”。
5. G。 I felt that Ms. Davis was showing me favoritism和本空后的made each one of us feel as if we were her favorite可推测,多年后回顾过去,作者发现Davis老师不仅仅“是为了自己做一些特殊的事情,而是为了全班同学做这些事情”。
文章通过问答的形式介绍了Wedding.com。
1. A。 A项中的It指代的就是Wedding.com。
2. D。本空所在段落介绍了Wedding.com的形成史。 D项中的He指代Brett Reynolds。
