七选五(一)‎ ‎(2018·郑州市第一次质量预测)‎ Do People Need Small Talk to Be Happy?‎ Psychologists (心理学家) have long said that connecting with others is an important part of happiness, but just how much conversation we require is under examination. In one study, researchers found that small talk made up only 10% of their conversation related to happiness. __1__ Scientists believe that small talk could promote bonding. Late last year, Princeton researchers reported that small talk keeps closeness with loved ones, and isn't merely the stuff of awkward exchanges with strangers.‎ Still, chatting with strangers could brighten your morning. In a series of experiments, psychologists gave Chicago passengers different directions about whether to talk with fellow passengers — something they typically avoided. __2__ None of the chatters reported being rejected.‎ Small talk can also help us feel connected with our surroundings. People who smiled at, made eye contact with, and briefly spoke with their Starbucks baristas (服务员) reported a greater sense of belonging than those who rushed through the transaction (交易). __3__ One report found that when volunteers broke the silence to chat with gallery goers, the visitors felt happier and more connected with the exhibit than those who were not approached.‎ ‎__4__ In one study, people who were rated “less curious” by researchers had trouble getting a conversation rolling on their own, and had greater luck building closeness with others when they were supplied with questions that encouraged personal disclosure (透露). But people who were considered “curious” needed no help when transforming conversations about ordinary things into personal exchanges. __5__‎ A.The same is true of gallery goers.‎ B.But don't play down small talk just yet.‎ C.They found that small talk is related to happiness.‎ D.Those told to chat with others reported a more pleasant journey.‎ E.Making small talk is an important skill for all the social situations.‎ F.A “curious mindset”, the author concluded, can lead to “positive social interactions”.‎ G.Of course, some people are better than others at turning small talk into something bigger.‎ 语篇解读:本文主要讲述了聊天会让人开心。‎ ‎1.选B 根据上文的“In one study, researchers ... related to happiness.”和下文的“Scientists believe that small talk could promote bonding.” ‎ ‎2.选D 根据下文的“None of the chatters reported being rejected.” ‎ ‎3.选A 根据下文的“chat with gallery goers”可知,应选A项。 ‎ ‎5.选F 根据上文的“But people who were ... into personal exchanges.” SQ3R stands for Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. It is a proven technique to sharpen textbook reading skills. Here's how this strategy works:‎ Survey Get an idea of what the chapter is about by reviewing the highlights (最突出的部分):‎ ‎__1__‎ Take note of words that are italicized (斜体) or bold (黑体).‎ Look at charts, graphs, pictures, maps and other visual material.‎ Read the very beginning and end of the chapter.‎ Question As you survey the text, ask a question for each section. __2__ You can create questions by:‎ Turning the title or subtitles into questions;‎ Rewriting the questions at the end of the chapter in your own words.‎ Questions help you pay attention, understand the text better, and recall the information more easily later on.‎ Read Read one section of a chapter at a time, actively looking for an answer to your ‎ question for that section. Pay attention to bold and italicized text that authors use to make important points. Be sure to review everything in the section, including tables, graphs, and charts. __3__‎ Recite At the end of each section, find an answer to your question for that section. __4__ Be sure to provide examples that support it. Now repeat Question, Read and Recite steps for each section of the chapter or assigned reading.‎ Review After reading, review your notes. Identify the main points of the reading by looking for the most important idea in each section. __5__‎ Review your study notes and the summary every week to help you remember the information. When it's time to study for your tests, you'll find you've created an invaluable guide.‎ A.Read the titles and subtitles.‎ B.Then write down your answer.‎ C.First ask a question for the next section.‎ D.Write a brief summary of the chapter or assignment.‎ E.The written questions and answers will help you study in the future.‎ F.Ask what, why, how, when, who and where as they relate to the content.‎ G.These features can communicate an idea more powerfully than written text.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。 Should We Get Rid of Cash?‎ When it comes to money, many people still think of the paper bill in their wallets.‎ ‎ For years, cash (or paper currency) has played an important role in our daily activity.__1__‎ The idea first came up when he read a statistic report about currency distribution released by the US Treasury, the department in control of the central bank. __2__ On the other hand, border states like Florida and California, which were heavily involved in drug trafficking (贩毒), see an ever increasing need for large bills.‎ Rogoff argues that most big bills in circulation were being used for one of two purposes. Profitmotivated crimes such as illegal gambling, drugs, prostitution, loan sharking, the fencing of stolen merchandise take up a major part. Tax evasion (逃税) by people who arrange to receive cash income and don't report it also contribute to its popularity.__3__‎ However, the total amount of cash issued by government is still booming. The government don't know where it goes. __4__ But they are happy to know that it's popular, because they make money by making money — about $70 billion a year. It is unlikely that they can enjoy such benefit though. If taken into account the human cost, the enforcement cost, the tax loss, these visible profits will be easily offset.‎ ‎__5__ Here's a typical opinion: “The day we go cashless, the government will be able to track your every move. This is nothing more than a call for dictatorship.”‎ A.He strongly urged the government to do something about it.‎ B.They don't know who's using it.‎ C.There are other people who see cash very differently.‎ D.The problem is that it also aids crime.‎ E.But Harvard professor Ken Rogoff is now appealing to the government to put it into extinction.‎ F.He noticed that some regions, like the Midwest, had almost no demand for the $100 bills.‎ G.But its popularity is slowly decreasing as we have more ways to pay, according to Harvard professor Ken Rogoff.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇议论文。 ‎ ‎1.选E 空格前提到现金在我们的日常活动中起重要作用,再结合第二段第一句中的“The idea first came up when he read a statistic ‎ report”可以判断,空格处应指但是有人认为应该取消现金。 ‎ ‎4.选B 根据空格上一句“The government don't know where it goes.” ‎ 七选五 ‎(2018·济南高三一模)While you are travelling abroad, cultural mistakes are more serious than linguistic mistakes, which can lead to serious misunderstanding and even illfeeling between individuals. __1__‎ ‎●Touching Someone ‎__2__ In Mediterranean countries, if you don't touch someone's arm when talking to them or if you don't greet them with kisses or a warm hug, you'll be considered cold. But backslap (拍背) someone who isn't a family member or a good friend in Korea, and you'll make them uncomfortable. In Thailand, the head is considered sacred — never even pat a child on the head.‎ ‎●Talking Over Dinner In some countries, like China, Japan and some African nations, the food's the thing, so don't start chatting about your day's adventures while everyone else is digging into dinner. __3__ It's not because your group is unfriendly, but because meal times are for eating, not talking.‎ ‎●Removing Your Shoes or Not Take off your shoes when arriving at the door of a London dinner party and the hostess will find you uncivilized, but fail to remove your shoes before entering a home in Asia, Hawaii, or the Pacific Islands and you'll be considered disrespectful. So, if you see a row of shoes at the door, start undoing your laces. __4__‎ Once you are on the ground of a different country, remain highly sensitive to native behavior. __5__ And don't feel offended if something seems offensive — like queue jumping. After all, this is a global village, and we are all very different.‎ A.Personal space varies as you travel the globe.‎ B.Asians consider removing shoes impolite at home.‎ C.Never be completely surprised by anything.‎ D.The linguistic mistake means that someone is not fully expressing his idea.‎ E.Look out for the following cultural mistakes and try to avoid them.‎ F.If not, keep the shoes on.‎ G.You'll likely be met with silence.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。 E项“Look out for the following cultural mistakes and try to avoid them.” 故选A。‎ ‎3. ‎ ‎4.选F 根据本段小标题“Removing Your Shoes or Not”可知,该段讨论的是“要不要脱鞋”的问题。空格处应与空格前一句“So, if you see a row of shoes at the door, start undoing your laces.” Too often an inappropriate view gets around us that it is our physical conditions that make us happy or unhappy. As a consequence, physical conditions have been overstated.‎ ‎__1__, that is, good standard of living, high goals that we want to obtain, surrounding ourselves with a nice house, nice car, nice clothes, etc. __2__. But many times once we obtain our goals and are surrounded by what we thought would make us happy, we are still unhappy.‎ Also on the other end of the stick, many, many people are unhappy now, because they have not obtained their goals and __3__, which, consequently, adds to their dissatisfaction with life.‎ So this is why so many people keep themselves for most of their lives in a state of “incompleteness” and unhappiness, and this is why so many super successful people still aren't happy. The reason is that __4__. They think that the Universe should give them what they want first and then they'll be happy. But that just puts a barrier in between them and happiness because of the way the Universe is set up.‎ The message here is to understand that your desires tell you where you want to put your focus in your life, however, __5__. You make yourself happy from the inside out, not the outside in. Do not require certain conditions be met for your happiness, because it won't work anyway.‎ A.We have different ways to get what really makes us happy B.they don't have what they want in life C.We set out to get happy by trying to control all the wonderful conditions around ourselves D.they are never there to be found in life E.they should not control your happiness in this moment F.We may think this is the key to our happiness G.they don't realize how to get happy ‎ ‎1.选C 根据上文中的“physical conditions”及下文中的“good standard of living ...nice clothes”可知,C项“我们通过努力掌控我们身边美好的物质条件来获取幸福”与上文相呼应,与“that is”后面的解释也一致。故选C。‎ ‎2. 根据“because they have not obtained their ‎ goals”可知,许多人不快乐是因为没有达到目标,and连接和前面并列的内容。 Do you wish to one day become a great artist? Or maybe you're looking for a career in art and need to improve your skills. __1__, here are some ideas to help you improve your art skills.‎ ‎·One of the most important things in art is practicing You've probably heard it many times already — practice makes perfect. __2__.‎ ‎·Take a few moments each day to study your surroundings Look at the face of the person you're talking to. The basic white and black to get shades and tones has a tendency to change the hue (色调) and make it dull and false. __4__.‎ ‎·Look at other artists' works Pay attention to their styles of drawing, so you can expand your viewpoint. And if you want, try copying their styles for a day to get a good idea on it.
