Some families will be able to return to their normal life quickly, while others will have to contend_with the destruction of their homes, medical problems, and injury to family members. Children especially will need time to recover from the loss of a loved one or a pet or from the closing down of their school.‎ Children often turn to adults for information, comfort and help. Parents should try to remain calm, answer children's questions honestly and remain understanding when they see changes in their children's behaviour.‎ Children react differently to an earthquake depending on their ages, developmental levels and former experiences. Some will respond by withdrawing(不与人交往), while others will have angry outbursts(爆发). Parents should remain sensitive to each child's reactions. Parents should spend time talking to their children, letting them know that it's OK to ask questions and to share their worries. Although it may be hard to find time to have these talks, parents can use regular family mealtimes or bedtimes for them. They should answer questions briefly and honestly and be sure to ask their children for their opinions and ideas. Issues may come up more than once and parents should remain patient when you answer the questions again. For young children, parents, after talking about the earthquake, might read a favourite story or have a relaxing family activity to help them calm down. Parents should also tell children they are safe and spend extra time with them. They could play games outside or read together indoors. Most importantly, be sure to tell them you love them.‎ ‎1.What's the passage mainly about?‎ A.How to prepare before an earthquake strikes.‎ B.What to do in an earthquake.‎ C.How to face the loss of a loved one in an earthquake.‎ D.How to help children recover mentally from an earthquake.‎ ‎2.When children ask the same question again, parents should ________.‎ A.read a favorite story to comfort them B.ask them to help do some housework C.be patient and answer the question again D.take them out to play games ‎3.Which of the following pieces of advice is NOT mentioned in the passage?‎ A.Keep a close watch on children's behaviour.‎ B.Tell the children they are safe.‎ C.Tell the children you love them.‎ D.Ask educational experts for help.‎ ‎4.What can we know from the passage?‎ A.All people will recover from an earthquake quickly.‎ B.Children may need a longer time to recover after an earthquake.‎ C.Children should turn to their classmates for help after an earthquake.‎ D.Children react in the same way as adults do to an earthquake.‎ 答案与解析:‎ ‎1. ‎ 答案:B ‎ (二)learning about language and using language Ⅰ.单句语法填空 ‎1.We are talking about ________ (nation) and international issues.‎ ‎2.________ (frighten) children were calling for their mothers.‎ ‎3.—Our school has won the championship!‎ ‎—________(congratulate)!‎ ‎4.________(judge) from the number of cars, he thought there were not many people at the club yet.‎ ‎5.The ________ (express) on his face told me that he was angry.‎ ‎6.He made a mistake, but then he corrected the situation ________ it got worse.‎ ‎7.It's not right for one to judge a stranger ________ his looks.‎ ‎8.________ is known to all, success lies in hard work.‎ ‎9.All of the villagers came out to receive me as an ________ (honour) guest.‎ ‎10.He said he had nothing ________ (be) afraid of.‎ 答案:1.national 2.Frightened 3.Congratulations ‎ ‎4.Judging 5.expression 6.before 7.by 8.As ‎ ‎9.honoured 10.to be Ⅱ.介、副词填空 ‎1.He is not an honest man, so you can't believe ________ him.‎ ‎2.People always shake hands ________ each other when they meet.‎ ‎3.The price of wheat has risen ________ 10 percent this year.‎ ‎4.He looked out ________ the window and saw an old friend.‎ ‎5.That morning he went to school by bike ________ usual.‎ ‎6.The farmer dug ________ some ancient coins when he was working in the fields.‎ ‎7.We are proud ________ being Chinese.‎ ‎8.The world seemed ________ its end when the flood happened.‎ ‎9.The Great Wall, known ________ Ten Thousand li Great Wall,is actually more than 10,000 metres long.‎ ‎10.He thought little ________ my advice.‎ 答案:1.in 2.with 3.by 4.of 5.as 6.out 7.of 8.at 9.as 10.of Ⅲ.短语填空 ‎1.He didn't know how to come back home because his money was ____________.‎ ‎2.Many buildings are ____________ because of the big flood.‎ ‎3.Don't lift that toolbox—you'll ____________ yourself!‎ ‎4.On hearing the good news, he shared it with his parents ____________.‎ ‎5.Some robbers ________ that house, and robbed many things of it.‎ ‎6.Hurry up! They are still changing it today. The Colorado River slowly cut down through stone to make the Grand Canyon(大峡谷).‎ Wind and rainstorm hit the land from time to time. Fires sometimes burn down forests and destroy the homes of wild animals. This happened in Yellowstone Park in 1988.‎ Dead volcanic(火山) mountains such as Haleakala on Maui and Carter Lake in Oregon are beautiful to look at. But there are several active volcanoes in the US, especially along the Pacific Coast. There are also many earthquakes in this area. Scientists can do nothing to control earthquakes or volcanoes. This was shown clearly on May 18, 1980. At 8:32 that morning, Mount St. Helens in Washington state erupted(爆发). The top of the mountain was blown off.‎ Over 60 people—campers, scientists, journalists, forest workers—were killed. Hundreds of square miles of forests were knocked down. In towns over 100 miles away, day suddenly became night. An ash cloud hid the sun for many hours. Towns and fields in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho were covered with dirty gray ash.‎ Scientists knew that Mt St. Helens might erupt soon. But no one could say when. Scientists had asked people to move away because the volcano was becoming dangerous. But Harry R. Truman,‎ ‎ 84, owned a small hotel in Mt St. Helens would not leave his home. Now it is covered with many feet of dirty ash.‎ But slowly, life is returning to the dead area around the mountain. Grass and small plants are beginning to grow again. Deer and birds have been seen. The land will never be the same as it once was. Perhaps Mt St. Helens will erupt again. But this is all part of nature's pattern of change, and man has little power to control it.‎ ‎1.What is the best title of this passage?‎ A.Wind, Water, Fire and Ice B.Volcano's Beauty and Danger C.The Power of Nature D.Natural Force Shapes Beautiful Land of America ‎2.There are several active volcanoes in the US, which mainly lie ________.‎ A.along the Colorado River B.in Yellowstone Park C.along the Pacific Coast D.in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho ‎3.After the eruption of volcano, what makes the sky turn dark?‎ A.The smoke. ‎ B.The clouds.‎ C.The fog. ‎ D.The ash.‎ ‎4.The underlined word “it” in the fifth paragraph means ________.‎ A.the body of old Harry B.the place of Harry's home C.the opening on top of Mt St. Helens D.the place where Harry probably died 从第三段第二句话“But there are several active volcanoes in the US, especially along the Pacific Coast”可知美国境内的活火山主要分布在太平洋沿岸。 从第四段的“An ash cloud hid the sun for many hours”可知火山爆发产生的灰尘使得天空变暗了。 该段提到“But Harry R. The quake struck Wenchuan and other parts of Sichuan Province in the middle of the afternoon and a number of school buildings, shops and homes were destroyed. The number of the dead and missing rose as rescue workers dug through flattened (夷为平地的) schools and homes to find survivors. It was reported that many people were still buried under the ruins in and around Mianyang, a city about 60 miles east of the epicenter (震中). People there spent a second night sleeping outside in the rain. The government ordered people not to return to their homes for safety concerns. Few lights were on in the city, and people ate and chatted by candlelight.‎ Rescue teams brought people to Mianyang's stadium for food and shelter. Outside the railway station, the police shouted in megaphones (扩音器) telling people where they could get free food. Buses carrying survivors left Beichuan, which is in the northeast of the epicenter and was also flattened by the quake. 1,000 students and teachers were killed or missing at a fallen high school in Beichuan County. At another school in the town of Juyuan, 900 students were buried under the ruins. There was little hope that many survivors would be found under the rubble. Some people also feel it safe to follow a large number of people. In some rare cases it might be right to follow the crowd, but in most cases this can be one big mistake. Actually there are reasons why we shouldn't follow the crowd blindly.‎ According to a study, people tend to follow the crowd when they aren't sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what's right and what's wrong! This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it isn't right.‎ A man who wants to be successful always hopes for others' guidance and he usually follows the same path of most people, but the question this man never asked himself is: are all of those people successful? Of course not! If you want to follow a crowd, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you'll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that's why following the crowd makes no sense at all.‎ Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they're greater than you in number, then sooner or later you'll discover that you're making decisions that you might regret later.‎ However, should we never follow the crowd? No. I'm not trying to say you should never follow the crowd, but instead I'm just asking you to think wisely before you take a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem in following them, but if you have doubts about the direction they're moving in, don't follow them blindly.‎ ‎29.Those who follow others because they want to succeed should think about ________.‎ A.whether they are in the same path B.whether those being followed are successful C.whether they are moving in a right direction D.whether there are more successful ones to follow ‎30.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?‎ A.It needs some time to think wisely.‎ B.We shouldn't regret what we have done.‎ C.We should think wisely before deciding to follow others.‎ D.Making others follow us is better than following others.‎ ‎31.Which of the following will the author agree with?‎ A.It is wrong to follow other people.‎ B.Those who follow others won't succeed.‎ C.Only those foolish people will follow others.‎ D.One should use his head before he follows others.‎ 答案与解析:‎ 本文是一篇议论文。 D D In a research carried out in the UK, it was found that only four out of every five employees were happy at work. Surprisingly, it wasn't the pay or the love for the work that made people happy. Instead, friendly, supportive colleagues and a good manager have been found to be the primary ‎ causes of happiness at work. So how do you develop a sense of joy on the job? Here are some suggestions.‎ Happiness is a state of mind, so staying happy at work is completely based on a positive attitude towards your job. Focus on the bright side of the work rather than keep talking about what makes you unhappy.‎ Challenge yourself and take charge of your own growth in your career. Boredom is one of the primary factors that cause people to change jobs. Find new challenges and it's a great feeling to take control over what you do and see a task through.‎ Having coworkers you like and enjoy working with is a feature of happiness in the workplace. Talk to people, get to know them and try to get along well with them in the workplace. Meeting new people and getting fresh views can help you to keep yourself interested in your work.‎ Complete your tasks, no matter how disagreeable or tough they might be. This gives you a sense of achievement and encourages you to work towards your goals in future.‎ Sitting and staring at your screen all day long isn't going to help you. Instead, take breaks and go outside for some time. For example, go out for a few minutes to feel the breeze (微风). Eat your lunch outside or work for a few minutes during that hour, which helps you stay happy at work.‎ ‎32.Which of the following is a main cause of happiness at work?‎ A.One's love for the work.‎ B.Having a good manager.‎ C.Having many supporters.‎ D.The pay one gets from work.‎ ‎33.Why does the author advise us to keep challenging ourselves at work?‎ A.To do our work more creatively.‎ B.To learn from new experiences.‎ C.To avoid feeling bored in the workplace.‎ D.To prove that we have the ability to do the task.‎ ‎34.In order to stay happy at work, we should ________.‎ A.try to make friends with our coworkers B.consider the good and bad aspects of the work C.take charge of different tasks from time to time D.complete those disagreeable or tough tasks first ‎35.The passage is written for ________.‎ A.people working in big companies B.new graduates from universities C.those working on computers D.general workers ‎ 答案:A ‎35.解析:推理判断题。全文主要介绍了如何在工作中保持心情愉快,因此该主题应该是针对广大工作者的。‎ 答案:D 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Teaching can become troubling when you have difficulty inspiring students.
