Developing good study habits isn't easy. 1 In this way, you'll become more and more successful as a student.
Start by allowing no interruptions. 2 You hate to give 100 percent of your attention to your work. Don't allow yourself to be distracted by friends or fellow students. Keep your goal in mind;know what you have to do and when it needs to be done. Don't let other people influence you into not doing your work.
3 If you study best in the morning, plan to do your hardest subjects first. Remember not to leave today's work till tomorrow. A delay like this is called“procrastination”.If you delay for any reason, you'll find it more and more difficult to get things done when you need to. You may rush to make up the time you wasted getting started, resulting in careless and errorfilled work.
Another good way to study is to take part in partnered and groupstudy sessions. These allow students to share ideas, and help each other deal with difficult material. 4
Forming good study habits can be difficult at first, and requires energy and a strong will. But if you commit yourself to it,success will be yours. 5 By doing so,you will know that you have tried. If you are satisfied with what you've done and know that you have tried your best, your grades will be the icing on the cake.
A.Figure out when you're most productive.
B.It's impossible to study while chatting or watching TV.
C.Always give your best in the classroom and in study sessions.
D.Putting off your task for any reason can make it difficult to finish on time.
E.You may do well enough but maybe you can hardly achieve your goal
easily.
F.But start with a plan, put in a lot of hard work, and studying will become easier.
G.In addition, learning among students is a good way of getting a firmer grasp of the material.

What does travel consist of?Answers can be as varied as worrying about your budget, trying new dishes at meals, climbing mountains and riding crowded local buses, etc. But to Mishana Khot,a US travel fanatic(狂热者),travel is“more than just a stamp in your passport—it's a stamp in your soul”.On the travel website Vagabondish,Khot listed some ways that you will change after taking a trip. Now,please take a look.
◆Travel shows the big picture.
Khot believes we may lose ourselves in our own lives from time to time.“Sometimes we can't separate our daily existence from the broader perspective(角度),”she argues,“ 6 It forces you to see your life from the outside.”
◆ 7
When you are on the way, chances are that you will deal with flight delays, slow buses, bad food, horrible accommodation and much more.As Khot pointed out,if there is one constant in a traveler's life,it is that travel will throw up situations that challenge you. You may have made the most detailed plan, but the next minute something just goes wrong. 8
◆Travel makes you more grateful.
Whether you travel from a big city to the quiet countryside,or vice versa(反之亦然),there will come a moment when you are grateful for all you have.“When you meet someone with one leg who is hiking up a hill, you will close your eyes for a second and say‘thank you’,”she said.
◆ 9
During travel, you'll be forced to communicate with many more people than you used to. 10 So,just throw away your shyness. That won't guide you to your destination. Go and communicate with people. They're an important part of the experience.
A.Travel makes you more adaptable.
B.Travel makes you more singleminded.
C.Travel helps you overcome your shyness.
D.You may meet something pleasant when you travel.
E.Travel provides a chance to get away from your routine.
F.And sometimes you won't even be able to use your first language.

The art of conversations takes practice, but is not as hard as you might think. 11
Be around confident people. Being around confident people makes you feel good. The other person's enthusiasm makes all the conversation participants feel confident and comfortable.
12 If it's someone who you work with,or go to school with, look at their department website,or see if the person is on any social networks before talking to him for the first time. The information you get can be a good starting point for conversations.
Ask questions. What do they like to do?What sort of things have they done in their lives? What is happening to them now? What did they do today or last weekend? 13 However, try to space out your questions or they'll
feel like you are interrogating(审问)them, which is very bad and closes off friendships.
Listen. Pay attention to what is being said. Make movements to indicate that you are still listening. If you listen well, the other person's statements will suggest questions for you to ask. 14 They will often not realize that it was they who did most of the talking, and you get the credit for being a good conversationalist.
Know when the conversation is over. Even the best conversations will eventually run out of steam or be ended by an interruption. Smile if you're leaving, tell them it was nice to talk to them, and say goodbye. 15
A.Ask as many questions as you can think of,including their age, income and marriage.
B.Ending on a positive note will leave a good impression.
C.Find out about the person you will be talking to before you actually talk to him,if you can.
D.Take a special course on making conversations so that you can communicate with others better.
E.Allow the other person to do most of the talking.
F.Identify things about them that you might be interested in hearing about, and politely ask questions.
G.With some patience and these steps, you can learn to relax and enjoy a great conversation.

根据空处下句“If it's someone who you work with,or go to school with, look at their department website,or see if the person is on any social networks before talking to him for the first time.”
14.E [根据空处下句“They will often not realize that it was they who did most of the talking, and you get the credit for being a good conversationalist.”
15.B [根据空处上句“Smile if you're leaving, tell them it was nice to talk to them, and say goodbye.”并结合该段首句“Know when the conversation is over.”

Here's a surprising truth—one of the most powerful weapons to enhance your life is your own tongue!
16 Concentrate on the qualities of other people that you can affirm instead of on their faults. This alone should do wonders in relieving stress in your relationships. Doctors know that prolonged anxiety harms you,but encouraging words can remove stress and a peaceful mind leads to improved physical health, too. 17
Avoid fueling verbal fire. When someone starts to blow up all at you,be careful about your response. Why burn your relationship house down with your own mouth?Try spraying water on an argument with calm words instead of using a flamethrower. How many marriages have been destroyed when in a fit of anger people spew out hurtful accusations to one another that are never forgotten! 18 “A soft answer turns away wrath(狂怒),but a harsh word stirs up anger.”
Stop complaining. We all know people who complain all the time, especially about the fault of others. 19 Nothing is ever going well for them, and probably nothing ever will—as long as they keep complaining
and putting their energy on what they really don't want.
Do think before you speak. 20 It is useless regretting. It doesn't matter how unintentional they may be,words can sometimes cut a lot deeper than a sword. Very often you'll hear people say,“I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.”Well,if you didn't want to hurt feelings why couldn't you be thoughtful before you let the unpleasant words escape your loose lips?
A.You should practice waiting a while before answering someone when you are angry.
B.Practice speaking positive words instead of negative ones.
C.We store in our minds in a kind of mental art gallery what others have said to us.
D.Once the words leave your mouth,it is impossible to take them back.
E.The longer you think,the better you'll speak.
F.The more they do so,the more they are disliked.
G.Think twice before speaking.
16.B [根据空后一句“Concentrate on the qualities of... on their faults.”
18.A [根据空前一句中的“when in a fit of anger people spew out hurtful accusations to one another that are never forgotten”可知,人们一气之下就会说出让自己后悔的话,所以要练习在气头上控制自己的情绪,故选A“当你生气时,你应该练习在回答问题之前先等一会儿”。]
19.F [由空前一句“We all know people who complain all the time... of others.”和空后的“Nothing is ever going well for them”可知,那些喜欢抱怨的人抱怨得越多,他们就越不招人喜欢,F选项中的they指的就是那些爱抱怨的人。]
根据空前的“Do think before you speak.”和空后一句“It is useless regretting.(后悔是没有用的。)”

A good training partner can be a great asset(有用的人)to your training but if you get stuck with a bad one,it could lead you down the road to frustration. 21 Here are a few things to look out for:
Dependable. Choose someone who you are sure will show up for every scheduled workout or who will call you if they can't make it. It is a drain(消耗)on your valuable energy especially before training to have to constantly remind your partner.
Attitude. Get a partner with a positive attitude. This is very important. If they constantly say that something is impossible or that they can't or you can't do something, you may end up believing them. 22
Open mind. Get a partner with an open mind. Someone who has to do things in his or her way all the time, will not listen to you and will not change his or her mind isn't a good partner. 23 The leader should take into account the needs and feelings of the other partner not totally ignoring them.
Spotting. Get someone you feel comfortable with spotting you. One of the main roles of a training partner is spotting and if you don't trust them, there's not much point in having them around to help.
24 If you are a beginner, try to find someone who knows what they are doing. You will get more out of your training than if you train with another beginner.
While there are a number of advantages of having a training partner, there
are also advantages of working alone. 25
A.Training level.
B.Similar strength levels.
C.Be selective when choosing a training partner.
D.Find someone with a similar training goal as you.
E.In every partnership, one person will tend to be the leader.
F.Do not train with someone who is satisfied with no improvement.
G.In the end,it is really up to you whether or not you need a training partner.

You're growing up. That means you're probably experiencing lots of changes, all at once. Your body is changing. It might even seem as if your entire self is changing. It can be confusing and even scary. 1 And it's good!
Growing up means that you can do more, learn more, and start to make your mark on the world. In order for that to happen, your body produces chemicals called hormones that help both body and mind grow. Hormone levels change constantly, rising and falling. 2 But it's partly to blame for intense emotions, surprising reactions, and mood swings.
Because of the way your brain develops,it is somewhat ruled by emotions now and through your teen years. As a result, growing up can seem like an emotional roller coaster! 3
●Take care of yourself. If you eat right, sleep enough, and get good exercise, your brain will be much more able to deal with the stress.
● 4 When you feel your moods swinging or you're upset,or confused, some quiet time will allow you to gather your thoughts and get calmer.
●Practice relaxing your body and deep breathing when you wake up and when you go to bed. 5 Plus, when stuff happens during the day, you'll be able to calm yourself quickly with a deep breath or two before you react. Your body is changing.
A.Take a timeout.
B.But the truth is,it happens to every teen.
C.Work out regularly to keep physically fit.
D.This changing is needed for your body's development.
E.It will help you fall asleep—and start the morning right.
F.Here are a few things you can do to make the ride smoother.
G.Usually, these feelings settle down when you realize what is going on.

3.F [空前的“an emotional roller coaster”与F项中的“make the ride smoother”相对应,且由下文列举的几个要点可知,F项符合文意。]

How to pick a great book to read
The world is full of great books, just waiting to be read. How can you pick one you'll really like? Here are some tips:
What makes you happy?
If you have a favorite hobby or pastime, look for books about that activity. 6 Do there exist a few careers you're interested in?You can find books about almost anything you like, and you're more likely to enjoy reading a book if you're already interested in its subject.
Fact or fiction?
7 Those are called fiction books. Novels, short stories, and fables are all examples of fiction. These books can transport you to another world or help you imagine something beyond your own experience. Nonfiction books give you the who, what, when, and why. They tell stories using facts—but that doesn't mean they're boring. Nonfiction books can bring to life everything from the first trip to the moon to what it's like to
explore the deepest oceans. Many of them read like novels from start to finish. Try both fiction and nonfiction books to see which you like better.
Find a family favorite.
What was your mother's favorite book when she was your age?Or your dad's?What about a sibling's? 8 Then you can talk about what they liked about it and share your thoughts. It's a fun way to get to know your family a little better, and to find a book you'll enjoy!
9
Your local library is a great place to find books that you'll love, and you don't have to search all by yourself. Tell a librarian about your interests—rock stars, sports teams, historical events, whatever you're into—and the names of some books you already like. Your librarian can help you find other books that you're sure to love. Your teacher is another good person to ask.
Launch a book swap(交换).
Why not get some friends together and trade favorite books? It's always fun to see what your friends are reading. Even if they're not exactly bookworms, you can all encourage each other to read and share books and authors you like. You also can look for book swaps in your area. 10
A.Ask them and give it a read.
B.Read as many books as possible.
C.It's a great way to build your personal library for free!
D.Ask an expert.
E.Some books are entirely made up and imagined.
F.Are you really into dinosaurs or dogs or a specific celebrity?
G.Set up a private library.

此处的“Those”代指E项中的“Some books”。]
8.A [由本段的小标题“Find a family favorite.” A项的“it”代指“favorite book”。]

Want to live in a perfectly clean environment and make it shine brightly? 11 Then you will not need to purchase expensive cleaning products.
Clean the toilet with Coke. It's amazing how powerful Coke might be as a toilet cleaner. 12 You'll save your health by not consuming chemicals that Coke contains and save money by not purchasing professional cleaners. Pour some cola over the stains and leave it all for a few hours. Then let water wash the toilet!
Remove water stains with orange peels. You've just eaten an orange. 13 Do not throw away those orange peels. You can use the skins to clean stainless steel. Your appliances will shine again after you rub(擦)them with the skins. The peels can easily make those stubborn stains disappear in a second.
Use banana peels to polish leather furniture. Experts claim that banana peels are great for polishing leather sofas and armchairs. Banana skins are rich in oils and have the right texture to do the task. 14 Afterwards, remove the leftover with a cloth. This trick is simple and cheap. Use it if you want your leather furniture to look brand new again.
15 Why would you want to buy one when you can make your own product that is cheap and nontoxic(无毒的)? Just pour 2 liters of slightly warm water into a deep bowl. Then add 50ml white vinegar and half a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Shake the bowl and then fill up a plastic spray
with the mixture. Use it to clean windows and mirrors. Make your glass surfaces clean and shiny.

Resist the urge to dish it out.
Have you heard the saying “Someone can dish it out,but he or she can't take it”? 23 If you spread gossip and rumors about others, you might become a person who deserves a taste of his or her own medicine.
Resist the urge to take revenge.
If you've been the victim of gossip and rumors and you know who started spreading them, you might want to go“an eye for an eye”. 24 And taking revenge in this way might make you feel good for a short time. But in the end,it will just keep the cycle of rumors going. 25
