只有比别人更早、更勤奋地努力,才能尝到成功的滋味。 1 潞城市(山西)2017 高考英语一轮阅读理解编练(二) 【2016高考训练】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。 “So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become certain.” Christopher Reeve Recently, for the first time in 5 years I simply went out back, put my cane down, and started walking. I made it 42 yards. Today I walked 5 miles. My medical team had said this would be impossible. My brain could no longer send the signals for walking because those nerves in it had been destroyed. Though certainly unintentional, my doctors did take something very important away from me: hope. A while back, a psychologist pal of mine urged me to try to help myself. I was angry. I said, “They’re four of Boston’s leading neurologists. They all said I’d never get any better.” “They could have all been wrong.” “They said there’s nothing I can do! No rehabilitation(复原). No physical therapy(治疗). I’m not putting any effort into trying to walk and then be miserable when I fail.” “Trying is never failure.” What made me finally try? The answer is simpler than I’d have ever imagined. That day I tried walking on my own, I had simply said to myself, “Why not?” When I walk I have a Frankenstein-style gait. I get embarrassed so I explain. I met a gal who said, “Stop excusing yourself. Walk proud!” She’s just one of the many who’ve taught me that if I open my heart to acceptance, the world is filled with support teams. One morning my husband, Bob, said there was a huge present for me in our driveway. He had researched “bicycles for disabled people.” It was a 300 pound cycle for two. The seats were side by side. He could pedal while I sat by him and enjoyed the outdoors again. Um... did I mention it came assembled with a set of pedals for me too? Now, hundreds of miles later, after exhaustive hours of pedaling along beautiful bike trails, I only wish that we owned stock in Ben-Gay. 1. What’s the best title of this passage ? A. Having a tour B. Realizing an Impossible dream C. Walking with a cane D. Suffering from disability 2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage ? A. My doctor concluded that I can walk again. B. My brain could no longer send signals. 只有比别人更早、更勤奋地努力,才能尝到成功的滋味。 2 C. They're four famous doctors in my medical team. D. A. his doctors said he couldn’t get any better B. his friend’s words is unbelievable C. he was miserable when he failed that time D. trying is never failure 4. The bicycle Bob found can be _____. A. a 150 pound cycle for one B. a bicycle for disabled people C. a huge present that he sent. After all, the cat’s owner has been dead for over a year. Toldo—a cute, 3-year-old black and white cat lives in Montagnana, northern Italy. Toldo has been visiting his owner—Iozzelli Renzo, who died on September 22, 2013, aged 71—every day for the past year and leaving small presents at the grave. The gifts usually consist of leaves, sticks, plastic cups or paper towels. “Even today I went to the cemetery with Toldo. On the way back, someone I know told me the 只有比别人更早、更勤奋地努力,才能尝到成功的滋味。 3 cat has already been there early this morning,” Renzo’s wife, Ada, told the Corriere Fiorentino. Neighbors have also seen Toldo wandering around the cemetery through the day. It started the day of the funeral, when the cat followed the coffin from the house to the cemetery. The next morning, Ada went to the grave again. “We went to the cemetery with my daughter and found a flower on the grave. I immediately thought that it was the cat, but my daughter was convinced that I was just in a very emotional state at that moment.” She told the news source. That night, however, Renzo’s son returned to the cemetery and found Toldo standing guard at the grave. Ada says that her late husband shared a particularly strong bond with Toldo—he’d adopted the cat from a cat colony when he was just 3 months old. Unfortunately, not everyone believes in the moving relationship between Toldo and his owner. Ada said that people often try to drive the cat away. “There are insensitive people who send him away with stones or other things, convinced that the presence of an animal in the cemetery is not good.” She told the news source. Many experts have tried to make English easier for students to learn – but they weren’t always successful. In 1930, Professor CK Ogden of Cambridge University invented Basic English. It had only 850 words (and just eighteen verbs) and Ogden said most people could learn it in just thirty hours. The problem was that people who learned Basic English could write and say simple messages, but they couldn’t understand the answers in ‘real’ English! It was also impossible to explain a word if it wasn’t in the Basic English word list. For example, if you wanted a watermelon, you asked for ‘a large green fruit with the form of an egg, which has a sweet red inside and a good taste’! RE Zachrisson, a university professor in Sweden, decided that the biggest problem for learners of English was spelling, so he invented a language called Anglic. Anglic was similar to English, but with much simpler spelling. ‘Father’ became ‘faadher, ‘new’ became ‘nue’ and ‘years’ became ‘yeerz’. Unfortunately for some students of English, Anglic never became popular. Even easier is the language which ships’ captains use: it’s called ‘Seaspeak’. Seaspeak uses a few simple phrases for every possible situation. In Seaspeak, for example you don’t say, ‘I’m sorry what did you say?’ or ‘I didn’t understand, can you repeat that?’ ... it’s just, ‘Say again.’ No more grammar! In the age of international communication through the Internet who knows? ... a new form of English might appear. A large number of the world’s e-mails are in English and include examples of ‘NetLingo’ like OIC (Oh, I see) and TTYL (Talk to you later). In another fifty years, English as we know it might not exist ... we will probably all speak fluent Internetish! 61. The best title for the passage would be ______. 只有比别人更早、更勤奋地努力,才能尝到成功的滋味。 8 A. Seaspeak B. Basic English C. Easy English D. Internetish 【答案】C 【解析】标题归纳题。根据 Many experts have tried to make English easier for students to learn 文章开头就指出主题怎样把英语变得更加简单,下文叙述了人们的不同做法,故选 C。 62. It will take a person about ______ weeks to learn Basic English if he spends two hours learning it every day. A. six B. four C. three D. two 【答案】D 【解析】细节理解题。根据 Ogden said most people could learn it in just thirty hours.花 30 个小 时,一天两个小时所以总共花两周的时间,故选 D。 63. According to Professor Zachrisson, what was the biggest problem for learners of English? A. Grammar. B. Vocabulary. C. Spelling. D. Speaking. 【答案】C 【解析】细节理解题。根据 RE Zachrisson, a university professor in Sweden, decided that the biggest problem for learners of English was spelling, Zachrisson 教授说最大的问题是拼写,故选 C。 64. Two five, no lights. 【答案】A 【解析】细节理解题。根据 Anglic was similar to English,可推出选项 A 的单词拼写上看出近似于英语 但又不是英语,故选 A。 65. What might happen to English in another fifty years? A. It might become a global language. It might become more and more difficult. 【答案】B 【解析】细节理解题。根据In another fifty years, English as we know it might not exist ... we will probably all speak fluent Internetish!再过50年有可能出现Internetish语言,故选B。
