Needless to say, I love my subject and vowed to one day impart(传授) my love of literature to my future students. Well, I must admit, I have made more than a difference. I have changed the way students perceive(感知) literature and have even inspired some to become English teachers.‎ One student in particular is named John. I met him last year when he was a student in my English class during the eighth period. He sat in the back often, saying very little. However, I sensed that he was taking in all that I taught. John was never absent nor was he late. He seemed very mature for his age.‎ As the year progressed, we read lots of poetry and various stories about different cultures and real-life experiences. I have always wanted literature to speak to my students so that they could find relevant connections which would finally give them that motivation to read, write and interpret. While reading and writing poetry, John wrote some beautiful poetry that spoke of his experiences as a black male in America.‎ On the last day of school, students were asked to write a brief autobiographical essay and to dedicate(献给) it to someone he or she thought was significant in his or her life. John dedicated his essay to me and used clip art that decorated the dedication with roses.‎ He stated in the essay “Some people you meet in life are flowers, but then there are those who are roses. Ms Hopkins, I just want you to know that you are a rose in my life and I have enjoyed every minute of being in your class. You have shown me that I have purpose in life and that I am a poet. I will never forget you.” Tears streamed down my eyes. I had had a particularly hard personal life that year and somehow that letter made it worth the struggle.‎ Making a significant contribution to someone's life is something money could never buy. Teaching allows teachers to make a positive difference in the life of someone.‎ ‎21. Which of the following can be the best title for this text?‎ A.The difference a good teacher can make B.The friendship Ms Hopkins and John developed C.An experience only Ms Hopkins and her students could have D.The significant contribution everyone can make B 词数:346 主题:Nestor软件 文体:说明文 A business school in Paris will soon begin using artificial intelligence and facial analysis to determine whether students are paying attention in class. The software, called Nestor, is used in two online classes at the ESG business school beginning in September.‎ The idea, according to LCA founder Marcel Saucet, is to use the data that Nestor collects to improve the performance of both students and professors. “The software uses students webcams(网络摄像机) to analyse eye movements and facial expressions and determine whether students are paying attention to a video lecture. It then formulates quizzes based on the content covered during moments of inattentiveness. Professors would also be able to identify moments when students' attention declined, which could help to improve their teaching,” Saucet says.‎ ‎“Advocates for AI in education say that the software is actually unable to teach a course, but the technology could be used as a digital tutor that would adapt to a student's individual needs, and help develop more effective studying habits. Such software could also help teachers by providing feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching,”advocates say.‎ Saucet says Nestor won't store any of the video footage it gets and that his company has no plans to sell any other data the software collects. In addition to facial recognition and analysis, the software can integrate (合并) with students' calendars to suggest possible study times, and track their online behaviour to pick up on patterns.‎ Rose Luckin, a professor at the University College London Knowledge Lab, says AI could unlock the “black box of learning” by providing information on how and when learning happens. Luckin says a programme like Nestor could be useful for students who take classes remotely, since there isn't a human there watching them. And while some are concerned that AI may one day replace teachers, Luckin sees the technology more as an assistant, rather than a replacement. Saucet agrees. “Human contact is not going to go away,” he says. “There will always be professors.”‎ ‎25.How does Nestor work to find out when students aren't paying attention?‎ A.By collecting the data of students' performance in different classes.‎ B.By collecting the students' grades in the quizzes.‎ C.By shooting and analysing students' eye movements and facial expressions.‎ D.By identifying moments when students' attention declined.‎ ‎26.Which is the benefit of AI education?‎ A.It could be used exactly to replace a tutor.‎ B.It helps students to develop more effective studying habits.‎ C.The software is able to satisfy the requirement of a course.‎ D.It could help teachers to give feedback on students performance.‎ ‎27.How does Nestor deal with the information collected from students?‎ A.Nestor will use it to suggest possible study times to students' schedule.‎ B.It won't store any video footage but facial expression.‎ C.The company hasn't expected to make profits by selling the data to other corporations.‎ D.Nestor will use it to keep track online of students' behaviour and punish them.‎ ‎28.What is Rose Luckin's attitude towards the replacement of teachers with AI?‎ A.Objective. B.Approving.‎ C.Indifferent. D.Opposed.‎ Ⅵ.语法填空 An unsupervised(无人监管的) flower shop operated by a college student in Beijing is attracting many young customers, Chinese media reported.
